I answered him, "You know, my lord." He said to me: "These are the people who are coming through the great persecution, who have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

I have told you these things, that you through union with me may have peace. In the world you have trouble, but be courageous! I have conquered the world."

strengthening the hearts of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith, and warning them that it is through enduring many hardships that we must get into the kingdom of God.

And not only that, but this too: let us continue exulting in our sufferings, for we know that suffering produces endurance,

Who can separate us from Christ's love? Can suffering or misfortune or persecution or hunger or destitution or danger or the sword?

ever happy in hope, always patient in suffering, ever persistent in prayer,

for when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we were going to be pressed with difficulties, and it took place, as you know.

because in spite of a terrible test of trouble, the mighty flood of their gladness mingling with the depths of their poverty has overflowed and resulted in the abundance of their liberality.

Listen, my dearly loved brothers. Has not God chosen the poor of the world to be rich in faith and to possess the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

The blasphemy

And they continued to say many other abusive things to Him.

I had them punished and tried to force them to use abusive language; in my extreme fury against them I continued to pursue them even into distant towns.

though I once used to abuse, persecute, and insult Him. But mercy was shown me by Him, because I did it in ignorance and unbelief,

Which

Now if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on law, and boast about God,

But it is not that God's word has failed. For not everybody that is descended from Israel really belongs to Israel,

I will make some, who claim to be Jews although they are not, but are lying -- I will make them come and fall at your feet and find out that I have loved you.
