Tormenting Locusts From The Abyss

1 And, the fifth messenger, sounded; and I saw a star, out of heaven, fallen unto the earth, and there was given unto him the key of the shaft of the abyss.

1 Then the (A)fifth angel sounded, and I saw a (B)star from heaven which had fallen to the earth; and the (C)key of the (a)(D)bottomless pit was given to him.

1 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.

1 The fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from heaven to earth.(A) The key to the shaft of the abyss(B) was given to him.

1 When the fifth angel blew his trumpet, I saw a star that had fallen to earth from the sky. The star was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit.

2 And he opened the shaft of the abyss; and there came up a smoke out of the shaft, as the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened, by reason of the smoke of the shaft.

2 He opened the (b)bottomless pit, and (E)smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and (F)the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit.

2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

2 He opened the shaft of the abyss, and smoke came up out of the shaft like smoke from a great(a) furnace so that the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the shaft.

2 It opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and smoke came out of the shaft like the smoke from a large furnace. The sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft.

3 And, out of the smoke, came forth, locusts, upon the earth; and there was given unto them licence, as the scorpions of the earth have licence.

3 Then out of the smoke came (G)locusts (c)upon the earth, and power was given them, as the (H)scorpions of the earth have power.

3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.

3 Then locusts came out of the smoke on to the earth, and power(b) was given to them(C) like the power that scorpions have on the earth.

3 Locusts came out of the smoke onto the earth, and they were given power like that of earthly scorpions.

4 And it was bidden them that they should not injure the herbage of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, - but only the men who have not the seal of God upon their foreheads.

4 They were told not to (I)hurt the (J)grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the (K)seal of God on their foreheads.

4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

4 They were told not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green plant, or any tree, but only people who do not have God’s seal on their foreheads.

4 They were told not to harm the grass on the earth, any green plant, or any tree. They could harm only the people who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads.

5 And it was given unto them, that they should not slay them, but that they should be tormented five months; and, the torture of them, was as of a scorpion's torture, whensoever it smiteth a man.

5 And (d)they were not permitted to kill (e)anyone, but to torment for (L)five months; and their torment was like the torment of a (M)scorpion when it (f)stings a man.

5 And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.

5 They were not permitted to kill them but were to torment them for five months; their torment is like the torment caused by a scorpion when it strikes a man.

5 They were not allowed to kill them, but were only allowed to torture them for five months. Their torture was like the pain of a scorpion when it stings someone.

6 And, in those days, shall men seek death, and in nowise shall find it, and shall covet to die, and death fleeth from them.

6 And in those days (N)men will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, and death flees from them.

6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

6 In those days people will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, but death will flee from them.

6 In those days people will seek death, but never find it. They will long to die, but death will escape them.

7 And, the likenesses of the locusts, were like unto horses prepared for battle; and, upon their heads, as it were crowns, like unto gold, and, their faces, were as the faces of men,

7 The (g)(O)appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle; and on their heads appeared to be crowns like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men.

7 And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men.

7 The appearance of the locusts was like horses equipped for battle.(D) Something like gold crowns was on their heads; their faces were like men’s faces;

7 The locusts looked like horses prepared for battle. On their heads were victor's crowns that looked like gold, and their faces were like human faces.

8 and, they had hair, as the hair of women, and, their teeth, were, as of lions,

8 They had hair like the hair of women, and their (P)teeth were like the teeth of lions.

8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions.

8 they had hair like women’s hair; their teeth were like lions’ teeth;(E)

8 They had hair like women's hair and teeth like lions' teeth.

9 and they had breastplates as breastplates of iron, and, the sound of their wings, was as the sound of chariots of many horses, running into battle;

9 They had breastplates like breastplates of iron; and the (Q)sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to battle.

9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.

9 they had chests like iron breastplates; the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses rushing into battle;

9 They had breastplates like iron, and the noise of their wings was like the roar of chariots with many horses rushing into battle.

10 and they have tails like unto scorpions, and stings, and, in their tails, is their licence to injure men five months.

10 They have tails like (R)scorpions, and stings; and in their (S)tails is their power to hurt men for (T)five months.

10 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months.

10 and they had tails with stingers like scorpions, so that with their tails they had the power(c) to harm people for five months.

10 They had tails and stingers like scorpions, and they had the power to hurt people with their tails for five months.

11 They have over them, as king, the messenger of the abyss, whose name, in Hebrew, is Abaddon "=Destroyer", and, in the Greek, he hath for name, Destroyer.

11 They have as king over them, the angel of the (U)abyss; his name in (V)Hebrew is (h)(W)Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name (i)Apollyon.

11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.

11 They had as their king(d) the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon,(e) and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.(f)

11 They had the angel of the bottomless pit ruling over them as king. In Hebrew he is called Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon.

12 The first, Woe, hath passed away, lo! there come, yet, two, Woes, after these things.

12 (X)The first woe is past; behold, two woes are still coming after these things.

12 One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.

12 The first woe has passed. There are still two more woes to come after this.

12 The first catastrophe is over. After these things, there are still two more catastrophes to come.

A Third Of Humanity Killed By Plagues

13 And, the sixth messenger, sounded; and I heard one voice, from among the horns of the altar of gold which is before God,

13 Then the sixth angel sounded, and I heard (j)a voice from the (k)four (Y)horns of the (Z)golden altar which is before God,

13 And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God,

13 The sixth angel blew his trumpet. From the four(g) horns of the gold altar(F) that is before God, I heard a voice

13 When the sixth angel blew his trumpet, I heard a voice from the four horns of the gold altar in front of God.

14 saying unto the sixth messenger, who was holding the trumpet - Loose the four messengers, who are bound at the great river Euphrates.

14 one saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the (AA)four angels who are bound at the (AB)great river Euphrates.”

14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.

14 say to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels bound at the great river Euphrates.”

14 It told the sixth angel who had the trumpet, "Release the four angels who are held at the great Euphrates River."

15 And the four messengers were loosed, who had been prepared for the hour, and day, and month, and year, that they should slay the third of men.

15 And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were (AC)released, so that they would kill a (AD)third of (l)mankind.

15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.

15 So the four angels who were prepared for the hour, day, month, and year were released to kill a third of the human race.

15 So the four angels who were ready for that hour, day, month, and year were released to kill one-third of humanity.

16 And, the number of the armies of the horsemen, was twice ten thousand times ten thousand - I heard the number of them.

16 The number of the armies of the horsemen was (AE)two hundred million; (AF)I heard the number of them.

16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.

16 The number of mounted troops was 200 million;(h) I heard their number.

16 The number of cavalry troops was 200,000,000. I heard how many there were.

17 And, thus, saw I the horses in the vision, - and them who were sitting upon them, having breastplates as of fire and hyacinth and brimstone; - and, the heads of the horses, were as heads of lions, and, out of their mouths, come forth fire and smoke and brimstone:

17 And (m)this is how I saw (AG)in the vision the horses and those who sat on them: the riders had breastplates the color of fire and of hyacinth and of (n)(AH)brimstone; and the heads of the horses are like the heads of lions; and (AI)out of their mouths proceed fire and smoke and (o)(AJ)brimstone.

17 And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.

17 This is how I saw the horses in my vision: The horsemen had breastplates that were fiery red, hyacinth blue, and sulfur yellow. The heads of the horses were like lions’ heads, and from their mouths came fire, smoke, and sulfur.

17 This was how I saw the horses in my vision: The riders wore breastplates that had the color of fire, sapphire, and sulfur. The heads of the horses were like lions' heads, and fire, smoke, and sulfur came out of their mouths.

18 by these three plagues, were slain, the third part of mankind, by reason of the fire and the smoke and the brimstone, that proceedeth out of their mouths;

18 A (AK)third of (p)mankind was killed by these three plagues, by the (AL)fire and the smoke and the (q)brimstone which proceeded out of their mouths.

18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.

18 A third of the human race was killed by these three plagues—by the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur that came from their mouths.

18 By these three plagues the fire, the smoke, and the sulfur that came out of their mouths one-third of humanity was killed.

19 for, the licence of the horses, is, in their mouth, and in their tails, for, their tails, are like unto serpents, having heads, and, with them, they injure.

19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails are like serpents and have heads, and with them they do harm.

19 For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.

19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails, which resemble snakes, have heads, and they inflict injury with them.

19 For the power of these horses is in their mouths and their tails. Their tails have heads like snakes, which they use to inflict pain.

20 And, the rest of mankind who were not slain by these plagues, repented not of the works of their hands, - that they should not do homage unto the demons, nor unto the idols of gold and of silver and of copper and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk;

20 The rest of (r)mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, (AM)did not repent of (AN)the works of their hands, so as not to (AO)worship demons, and (AP)the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk;

20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:

20 The rest of the people, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands to stop worshiping demons(G) and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which are not able to see, hear, or walk.(H)

20 The rest of the people who survived these plagues did not repent from their evil actions or stop worshiping demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot see, hear, or walk.

21 Neither repented they of their murders, or of their sorceries, or of their lewdnesses, or of their thefts.

21 and they (AQ)did not repent of their murders nor of their (AR)sorceries nor of their (AS)immorality nor of their thefts.

21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

21 And they did not repent of their murders, their sorceries,(i) their sexual immorality, or their thefts.

21 They did not repent from their murders, their witchcraft, their sexual immorality, or their thefts.
