Treasury of Scripture Knowledge

Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

Afterward, David’s conscience bothered

him because he had cut off the corner of Saul’s robe.

Keep the king’s command because of your oath made before God.

Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,

Submit to every human authority because of the Lord, whether to the Emperor as the supreme authority

I always do my best to have a clear conscience toward God and men.

For it brings favor if, mindful of God’s will,

someone endures grief from suffering unjustly.

However, do this with gentleness and respect, keeping your conscience clear,

so that when you are accused, those who denounce your Christian life will be put to shame.
