Formerly Dead To Sin, Now Alive In Christ

1 THAT then shall we say? Shall we abide in sin, that grace may abound?

1 (A)What shall we say then? Are we to (B)continue in sin so that grace may increase?

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

1 What should we say then?(A) Should we continue in sin so that grace may multiply?(B)

1 What should we say, then? Should we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

2 God forbid. We who are dead to sin, how shall we still live therein?

2 (C)May it never be! How shall we who (D)died to sin still live in it?

2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

2 Absolutely not!(C) How can we who died to sin(D) still live in it?

2 Of course not! How can we who died as far as sin is concerned go on living in it?

3 Do ye not know, that as many as have been baptised into Christ Jesus have been baptised into his death?

3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been (E)baptized into (F)Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?

3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

3 Or are you unaware that all of us who were baptized(E) into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?(F)

3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into union with the Messiah Jesus were baptized into his death?

4 We have been buried therefore with him by baptism into death: that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so also we should walk in newness of life.

4 Therefore we have been (G)buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was (H)raised from the dead through the (I)glory of the Father, so we too might walk in (J)newness of life.

4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

4 Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death,(G) in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead(H) by the glory of the Father,(I) so we too may walk in a new way(a) of life.(J)

4 Therefore, through baptism we were buried with him into his death so that, just as the Messiah was raised from the dead by the Father's glory, we too may live an entirely new life.

5 For if we have been planted with him in the likeness of his death, so shall we be also of his resurrection:

5 For (K)if we have become (a)united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be (b)in the likeness of His resurrection,

5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

5 For if we have been joined with Him in the likeness of His death,(K) we will certainly also be(b) in the likeness of His resurrection.

5 For if we have become united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.

6 knowing this, that our old man hath been crucified with him, that the body of sin might be abolished, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.

6 knowing this, that our (L)old (c)self was (M)crucified with Him, in order that our (N)body of sin might be (d)done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;

6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

6 For we know that our old self(c)(L) was crucified with Him(M) in order that sin’s dominion over the body(d) may be abolished,(N) so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin,

6 We know that our old natures were crucified with him so that our sin-laden bodies might be rendered powerless and we might no longer be slaves to sin.

7 For he that is dead is discharged from sin.

7 for (O)he who has died is (e)freed from sin.

7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

7 since a person who has died(O) is freed(e) from sin’s claims.(f)

7 For the person who has died has been freed from sin.

8 But if we have been dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

8 Now (P)if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,

8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

8 Now if we died with Christ,(P) we believe that we will also live with Him,

8 Now if we have died with the Messiah, we believe that we will also live with him,

9 knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death over him hath no more dominion.

9 knowing that Christ, having been (Q)raised from the dead, (f)is never to die again; (R)death no longer is master over Him.

9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

9 because we know that Christ, having been raised from the dead,(Q) will not die again. Death no longer rules over Him.(R)

9 for we know that the Messiah, who was raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has mastery over him.

10 For in that he died, for sin he died once: but in that he liveth, he liveth to God.

10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.

10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

10 For in light of the fact that He died, He died to sin once for all; but in light of the fact that He lives, He lives to God.

10 For when he died, he died once and for all as far as sin is concerned. But now that he is alive, he lives for God.

11 So also do ye account yourselves dead indeed to sin, but living unto God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

11 Even so consider yourselves to be (S)dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

11 So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin(S) but alive to God in Christ Jesus.(g)

11 In the same way, you too must continuously consider yourselves dead as far as sin is concerned, but living for God through the Messiah Jesus.

12 Let not therefore sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the passions thereof.

12 Therefore do not let sin (T)reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey(h) its desires.

12 Therefore, do not let sin rule your mortal bodies so that you obey their desires.

13 Neither present your members as weapons of unrighteousness for sin: but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members as weapons of righteousness for God.

13 and do not go on (U)presenting (g)the members of your body to sin as (h)instruments of unrighteousness; but (V)present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as (i)instruments of righteousness to God.

13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

13 And do not offer any parts(i) of it to sin(T) as weapons for unrighteousness. But as those who are alive from the dead, offer yourselves to God,(U) and all the parts(j) of yourselves to God as weapons for righteousness.

13 Stop offering the parts of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness. Instead, offer yourselves to God as people who have been brought from death to life and the parts of your body as instruments of righteousness to God.

14 For sin shall not hold dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

14 For (W)sin shall not (X)be master over you, for (Y)you are not under law but (Z)under grace.

14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

14 For sin will not rule over you, because you are not under law(V) but under grace.(W)

14 For sin will not have mastery over you, because you are not under Law but under grace.

Set Free From Sin

15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

15 What then? (AA)Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? (AB)May it never be!

15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

15 What then? Should we sin because we are not under law but under grace?(X) Absolutely not!(Y)

15 What, then, does this mean? Should we go on sinning because we are not under Law but under grace? Of course not!

16 Do ye not know, that to whomsoever ye present yourselves servants to obey, ye are his servants to whom ye obey; if of sin unto death, or of obedience, unto righteousness?

16 Do you not (AC)know that when you present yourselves to someone as (AD)slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of (AE)sin (j)resulting in death, or of obedience (k)resulting in righteousness?

16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

16 Don’t you know that if you offer yourselves to someone(k) as obedient slaves,(Z) you are slaves of that one you obey(AA)—either of sin leading to death(AB) or of obedience leading to righteousness?

16 Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

17 But thanks be to God, that though ye were the servants of sin, ye have obeyed from the heart the model of doctrine into which ye were delivered.

17 But (AF)thanks be to God that (l)though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that (AG)form of teaching to which you were committed,

17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

17 But thank God that, although you used to be slaves of sin,(AC) you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching you were transferred(l) to,(AD)

17 But thank God that, though you were once slaves of sin, you became obedient from your hearts to that form of teaching with which you were entrusted!

18 Emancipated then from sin, ye became servants to righteousness.

18 and having been (AH)freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.

18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

18 and having been liberated from sin,(AE) you became enslaved to righteousness.

18 And since you have been freed from sin, you have become slaves of righteousness.

19 I speak humanly, because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have presented your members servants to impurity and iniquity for iniquity; so now present your members servants to righteousness for holiness.

19 (AI)I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just (AJ)as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, (m)resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, (n)resulting in sanctification.

19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.

19 I am using a human analogy(m)(AF) because of the weakness of your flesh.(n) For just as you offered the parts(o) of yourselves as slaves to moral impurity, and to greater and greater lawlessness, so now offer them as slaves to righteousness, which results in sanctification.

19 I am speaking in simple terms because of the frailty of your human nature. Just as you once offered the parts of your body as slaves to impurity and to greater and greater disobedience, so now, in the same way, you must offer the parts of your body as slaves to righteousness that leads to sanctification.

20 For when ye were the slaves of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

20 For (AK)when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.

20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free from allegiance to righteousness.(p)(AG)

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were "free" as far as righteousness was concerned.

21 What fruit therefore had ye then in those things at which ye are now confounded? for the end of those things is death.

21 Therefore what (o)(AL)benefit were you then (p)deriving (q)from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is (AM)death.

21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

21 So what fruit was produced(q) then from the things you are now ashamed of?(AH) For the end of those things is death.(AI)

21 What benefit did you get from doing those things you are now ashamed of? For those things resulted in death.

22 But now being set at liberty from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and at the end life eternal.

22 But now having been (AN)freed from sin and (AO)enslaved to God, you (r)derive your (s)(AP)benefit, (t)resulting in sanctification, and (AQ)the outcome, eternal life.

22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

22 But now, since you have been liberated from sin and have become enslaved to God,(AJ) you have your fruit, which results in sanctification(r)(AK)—and the end is eternal life!(AL)

22 But now that you have been freed from sin and have become God's slaves, the benefit you reap is sanctification, and the result is eternal life.

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is life eternal in Jesus Christ our Lord.

23 For the wages of (AR)sin is death, but the free gift of God is (AS)eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.(AM)

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in union with the Messiah Jesus our Lord.
