Are israelites

But it is not that God's word has failed. For not everybody that is descended from Israel really belongs to Israel,

Jesus saw Nathaniel coming toward Him, and said of him, "Here is a genuine Israelite with no deceit in him!"

Covenants

And you are the descendants of the prophets and the heirs of the sacred compact which God made with your forefathers, when He said to Abraham: 'All the families of the earth are to be blessed through your posterity.'

But, as the case with Him now stands, He has entered upon a priestly service as much superior to theirs as the covenant of which He is the Mediator is superior to theirs, superior because it has been enacted upon superior promises.

The giving

They are great from every point of view. In the first place, the Jews are entrusted with the utterances of God.

For while the law was given through Moses, spiritual blessing and truth have come through Jesus Christ.

The service

"Listen to another story. There was once an owner of an estate who planted a vineyard and built a fence around it, and hewed out a wine-vat in it, and built a tower, and rented it to tenant farmers, and then went abroad.

But behind the second curtain is the tent that is called the holy of holies,

Promises

He has helped His servant Israel, so as to remember mercy,

for the promise belongs to you and your children, as well as to all those who are far away whom the Lord our God may call to Him."

So now we are bringing you the good news about the promise that was made to our forefathers,

At that time you were without any connection with Christ; you were aliens to the commonwealth of Israel, strangers to the sacred compacts made by God's promise, with no hope, and no God in the world.

For when God made His promise to Abraham, He took an oath by Himself, since He had no one greater by whom He could take it,
