Sound Instruction And Consistent Behavior

1 But speak thou the things which are expedient unto sound doctrine,

1 But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for (A)sound doctrine.

1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:

1 But you must say the things that are consistent with sound teaching.(A)

1 But as for you, teach what is consistent with healthy doctrine.

2 that the aged men be temperate, venerable, prudent, sound in faith, in charity, in tolerance.

2 (B)Older men are to be (C)temperate, dignified, sensible, (D)sound (E)in faith, in love, in (a)perseverance.

2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.

2 Older men(B) are to be level headed, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love,(C) and endurance.

2 Older men are to be sober, serious, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance.

3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of honesty;

3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, (F)not malicious gossips nor (G)enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,

3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

3 In the same way, older women(D) are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. They are to teach what is good,

3 Likewise, older women are to show their reverence for God by their behavior. They are not to be gossips or addicted to alcohol, but to be examples of goodness.

4 that they may teach the young women to be prudent, to love their husbands, to love their children,

4 so that they may (b)encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,

4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

4 so they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children,

4 They should encourage the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children,

5 to be temperate, chaste, good housekeepers, subject to their own husbands, that the word of God not be blasphemed.

5 to be sensible, pure, (H)workers at home, kind, being (I)subject to their own husbands, (J)so that the word of God will not be dishonored.

5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

5 to be self-controlled, pure, homemakers, kind, and submissive(E) to their husbands, so that God’s message(F) will not be slandered.

5 to be sensible and pure, to manage their households, to be kind, and to submit themselves to their husbands. Otherwise, the word of God may be discredited.

6 Young men likewise exhort to be temperate;

6 Likewise urge (K)the young men to be (c)sensible;

6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.

6 In the same way, encourage the young men(G) to be self-controlled

6 Likewise, encourage the younger men to be sensible.

7 in all things showing thyself as an example of good works, in doctrine showing integrity, seriousness, purity,

7 in all things show yourself to be (L)an example of good deeds, with (d)purity in doctrine, dignified,

7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

7 in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity(a) in your teaching.

7 Always set an example for others by doing good actions. Teach with integrity and dignity.

8 sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that the adversary may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

8 sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so (M)that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.

8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

8 Your message is to be sound beyond reproach,(H) so that the opponent will be ashamed, having nothing bad to say about us.

8 Use wholesome speech that cannot be condemned. Then any opponent will be ashamed because he cannot say anything bad about us.

9 Exhort slaves to be subject to their own masters and to please them well in all things; not contradicting;

9 Urge (N)bondslaves to be subject to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not (e)argumentative,

9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;

9 Slaves are to be submissive to their masters(I) in everything, and to be well-pleasing,(J) not talking back

9 Slaves are to submit to their masters in everything, aiming to please them and not argue with them

10 not defrauding, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

10 not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that they will adorn the doctrine of (O)God our Savior in every respect.

10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

10 or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior(K) in everything.

10 or steal from them. Instead, they are to show complete and perfect loyalty, so that in every way they may make the teaching about God our Savior more attractive.

13 looking for the blessed hope and the (U)appearing of the glory of (h)(V)our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus,

13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

13 while we wait for the blessed hope(Q) and appearing of the glory(R) of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

14 who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto himself a people of his own, zealous of good works.

14 who (W)gave Himself for us (X)to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to (Y)purify for Himself a (Z)people for His own possession, (AA)zealous for good deeds.

14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

14 He gave Himself for us(S) to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for Himself a people for His own possession,(T) eager to do good works.

14 He gave himself for us to set us free from every wrong and to cleanse us so that we could be his special people who are enthusiastic about doing good deeds.

15 These things speak and exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise thee.

15 These things speak and (AB)exhort and (AC)reprove with all (i)authority. (AD)Let no one disregard you.

15 These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

15 Say these things, and encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard(c) you.

15 These are the things you should teach. Encourage and refute with full authority. Do not let anyone look down on you.
