Zechariah's Eighth Vision

1 Then I looked up and saw four chariots coming out from between two mountains! And the mountains were made of brass!

1 Now I lifted up my eyes again and looked, and behold, (A)four chariots were coming forth from between the two mountains; and the mountains were bronze mountains.

1 And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.

1 Then I looked up again and saw four chariots coming from between two mountains. And the mountains were made of bronze.

1 Now again I looked up, and (a)four chariots were coming out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of [firm, immovable] bronze (divine judgment).

2 Attached to the first chariot were red horses. Attached to the second chariot were black horses.

2 With the first chariot were (B)red horses, with the second chariot (C)black horses,

2 In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses;

2 The first chariot had red horses,(A) the second chariot black horses,(B)

2 The first chariot had red horses (war, bloodshed), the second chariot had black horses (famine, death),(A)

3 Attached to the third chariot were white horses. Attached to the fourth chariot were speckled horses and gray horses.

3 with the third chariot (D)white horses, and with the fourth chariot strong (E)dappled horses.

3 And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled and bay horses.

3 the third chariot white horses,(C) and the fourth chariot dappled(D) horses—all strong horses.

3 the third chariot had white horses (victory), and the fourth chariot had strong dappled horses (death through judgment).(B)

4 In response, I asked the angel who had been talking with me, "Sir, what are these?"

4 Then I spoke and said to the angel who was speaking with me, “(F)What are these, my lord?”

4 Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord?

4 So I inquired of the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these, my lord?”

4 Then I said to the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these, my lord?”

5 The angel told me, "These are four heavenly spirits that are going out on patrol after having presented themselves to the Lord of the whole earth.

5 The angel replied to me, “These are the (G)four spirits of heaven, going forth after standing before the Lord of all the earth,

5 And the angel answered and said unto me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.

5 The angel told me, “These are the four spirits(a)(E) of heaven going out after presenting themselves to the Lord of the whole earth.

5 The angel answered me, “These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go out after presenting themselves before the Lord of all the earth,(C)

6 The black horses are headed into the north country, and the white ones are headed out after them. The speckled horses are headed toward the south country."

6 with one of which the black horses are going forth to the (H)north country; and the white ones go forth after them, while the dappled ones go forth to the (I)south country.

6 The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grisled go forth toward the south country.

6 The one with the black horses is going to the land of the north, the white horses are going after them, but the dappled horses are going to the land of the south.”

6 with the chariot with the black horses going toward the north country; then the one with the white horses follows after them [because there are two northern powers to overcome], and the chariot with the dappled horses goes toward the south country.”

7 Then the gray horses went out. They were eager to go out on patrol throughout the earth, so the angel said, "Go patrol the earth." So they went out on patrol throughout the earth.

7 When the strong ones went out, they (a)were eager to go to (b)(J)patrol the earth.” And He said, “Go, (c)patrol the earth.” So they (d)patrolled the earth.

7 And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.

7 As the strong horses went out, they wanted to go patrol the earth, and the Lord said, “Go, patrol the earth.” So they patrolled the earth.

7 When the strong horses went out, they were eager to patrol the earth. And the Lord said, “Go, patrol the earth.” So they patrolled the earth [watching and protecting it].

8 Then he called to me, "Look! The horses that went north have caused my spirit to rest in the north country."

8 Then He cried out to me and spoke to me saying, “See, those who are going to the land of the north have (e)(K)appeased My wrath in the land of the north.”

8 Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.

8 Then He summoned me saying, “See, those going to the land of the north have pacified My Spirit in the northern land.”

8 Then He called out to me and said to me, “See, those who are going to the north country have quieted My Spirit [of wrath] in the north country.”

The Branch Is Crowned

9 Then this message from the LORD came to me:

9 The (L)word of the Lord also came to me, saying,

9 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

9 The word of the Lord came to me:(F)

9 The word of the Lord also came to me, saying,

10 "Go take up an offering from those who came out of the Babylonian exile, that is, from Heldai, from Tobijah, and from Jedaiah. Go along with them today into the house of Zephaniah's son Josiah, who returned from Babylon.

10 (M)Take an offering from the exiles, from Heldai, Tobijah and Jedaiah; and you go the same day and enter the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah, where they have arrived from Babylon.

10 Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah;

10 “Take an offering from the exiles, from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon, and go that same day to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah.

10 “Take an offering from the exiles, from Heldai, from Tobijah, and from Jedaiah [as representatives]; and you go the same day and enter the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah, where they have arrived from Babylon.

11 Take silver and gold and fashion crowns to set upon the head of Joshua son of Johozadak, the High Priest.

11 Take silver and gold, make an ornate (N)crown and set it on the head of (O)Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest.

11 Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;

11 Take silver and gold, make crowns and place them on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest.

11 Take silver and gold [from them], and make an ornate crown and set it on the head of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest.

12 Then tell him, "This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies says: "Here is the man whose name is The Branch. He will branch out from where he is and will rebuild the Temple of the LORD.

12 Then say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Behold, a man whose name is (f)(P)Branch, for He will (g)(Q)branch out from where He is; and He will (R)build the temple of the Lord.

12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:

12 You are to tell him: This is what the Lord of Hosts says: Here is a man whose name is Branch;(G) He will branch out from His place and build the Lord’s temple.

12 Then say to Joshua, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Behold (look, keep in sight, watch), a Man (Messiah) whose name is Branch, for He shall branch out from His place (Israel, the Davidic line); and He shall build the [ultimate] temple of the Lord.(D)

13 Yes, he will indeed rebuild the Temple of the LORD, and he will exalt its majesty by sitting and ruling on his throne. He will serve as priest on his throne, and no contention will exist between them.

13 Yes, it is He who will build the temple of the Lord, and He who will (S)bear the honor and sit and (T)rule on His throne. Thus, He will be a (U)priest on His throne, and the counsel of peace will be between the two (h)offices.”’

13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

13 Yes, He will build the Lord’s temple; He will be clothed in splendor(H) and will sit on His throne and rule. There will also be a priest on His throne, and there will be peaceful counsel between the two of them.(I)

13 Yes, [you are to build a temple of the Lord, but] it is He who shall build the [ultimate] temple of the Lord, and He shall bear the honor and majesty [as the only begotten of the Father] and sit and rule on His throne. And He shall be a (b)Priest on His throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between the two offices [Priest and King].”’(E)

14 The crowns will go to Helem, to Tobijah, to Jedaiah, and to Zephaniah's son Hen, as a memorial in the Temple of the LORD.

14 Now the (V)crown will become a reminder in the temple of the Lord to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah and (i)Hen the son of Zephaniah.

14 And the crowns shall be to Helem, and to Tobijah, and to Jedaiah, and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in the temple of the LORD.

14 The crown will reside in the Lord’s temple as a memorial to Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen(b) son of Zephaniah.

14 Now the crown shall become a reminder in the temple of the Lord to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen the son of Zephaniah.(F)

15 Those who are now far away will come and do reconstruction work in the Temple of the LORD. Then you will know that the LORD of the Heavenly Armies has sent me to you. This will come about if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God."'"

15 (W)Those who are far off will come and (j)build the temple of the Lord.” Then you will (X)know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. And it will take place if you completely (Y)obey the Lord your God.

15 And they that are far off shall come and build in the temple of the LORD, and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you. And this shall come to pass, if ye will diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God.

15 People who are far off will come and build the Lord’s temple, and you will know that the Lord of Hosts has sent Me to you. This will happen when you fully obey the Lord your God.”(J)

15 And those who are far away will come and [help] build the temple of the Lord.” Then you shall know [without any doubt] that the Lord of hosts sent me (Zechariah) to you. And it will come about if you will diligently obey the [voice of the] Lord your God.
