and gathered together ､

וַיִּסְפְּדוּ־

וַיִּקְבְּרֻ֥הוּ

way·yiq·bə·ru·hū

בְּבֵית֖וֹ

. בָּרָמָ֑ה

bā·rā·māh;

in Ramah .

､ וַיָּ֣קָם

way·yā·qām

And arose ､

דָּוִ֔ד

וַיֵּ֖רֶד

and whose business [was]

– בַכַּרְמֶ֗ל

ḇak·kar·mel,

in Carmel –

וְהָאִישׁ֙

wə·hā·’îš

and the man [was]

､ גָּד֣וֹל

gā·ḏō·wl

rich ､

מְאֹ֔ד

mə·’ōḏ,

וְל֛וֹ

wə·lōw

and He had

､ צֹ֥אן

ṣōn

שְׁלֹֽשֶׁת־

šə·lō·šeṯ-

אֲלָפִ֖ים

’ă·lā·p̄îm

וְאֶ֣לֶף

wə·’e·lep̄

. עִזִּ֑ים

‘iz·zîm;

וַיְהִ֛י

way·hî

And he was

בִּגְזֹ֥ז

biḡ·zōz

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

צֹאנ֖וֹ

ṣō·nōw

. בַּכַּרְמֶֽל׃

bak·kar·mel.

וְשֵׁ֤ם

wə·šêm

And the name

הָאִישׁ֙

hā·’îš

of the man

– נָבָ֔ל

nā·ḇāl,

[was] Nabal –

וְשֵׁ֥ם

wə·šêm

and the name

אִשְׁתּ֖וֹ

’iš·tōw

. אֲבִגָ֑יִל

’ă·ḇi·ḡā·yil;

וְהָאִשָּׁ֤ה

wə·hā·’iš·šāh

And [she was] a woman

טֽוֹבַת־

ṭō·w·ḇaṯ-

､ שֶׂ֙כֶל֙

śe·ḵel

understanding ､

וִ֣יפַת

wî·p̄aṯ

､ תֹּ֔אַר

tō·’ar,

וְהָאִ֥ישׁ

wə·hā·’îš

but the man [was]

קָשֶׁ֛ה

qā·šeh

וְרַ֥ע

wə·ra‘

and evil

– מַעֲלָלִ֖ים

ma·‘ă·lā·lîm

in [his] doings –

וְה֥וּא

wə·hū

and he [was]

[כלבו]

ḵā·le·ḇōw

וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע

דָּוִ֖ד

בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר

in the wilderness

And sent

עֲשָׂרָ֣ה

､ נְעָרִ֑ים

nə·‘ā·rîm;

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said

､ לַנְּעָרִ֗ים

lan·nə·‘ā·rîm,

to the young men ､

עֲל֤וּ

‘ă·lū

go up

､ כַרְמֶ֙לָה֙

ḵar·me·lāh

to Carmel ､

וּבָאתֶ֣ם

ū·ḇā·ṯem

and go

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ נָבָ֔ל

nā·ḇāl,

וּשְׁאֶלְתֶּם־

ū·šə·’el·tem-

ל֥וֹ

lōw

– בִשְׁמִ֖י

ḇiš·mî

in my name –

. לְשָׁלֽוֹם׃

וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֥ם

wa·’ă·mar·tem

And you shall say

כֹּ֖ה

לֶחָ֑י

le·ḥāy;

to him who lives [in prosperity]

､ וְאַתָּ֤ה

wə·’at·tāh

and to you ､

שָׁלוֹם֙

šā·lō·wm

Peace [be]

､ וּבֵיתְךָ֣

ū·ḇê·ṯə·ḵā

and to your house ､

שָׁל֔וֹם

šā·lō·wm,

וְכֹ֥ל

wə·ḵōl

and to all

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

לְךָ֖

lə·ḵā

. שָׁלֽוֹם׃

וְעַתָּ֣ה

wə·‘at·tāh

שָׁמַ֔עְתִּי

šā·ma‘·tî,

כִּ֥י

have shearers –

לָ֑ךְ

עַתָּ֗ה

‘at·tāh,

הָרֹעִ֤ים

אֲשֶׁר־

עִמָּ֔נוּ

with us

we did hurt them

and they will tell

therefore let find

הַנְּעָרִ֥ים

in your eyes ､

. אֲדֹנָֽיו׃

וְלָקַחְתִּ֤י

Then shall I take

laḥ·mî

my bread ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ מֵימַ֔י

mê·may,

my water ､

וְאֵת֙

wə·’êṯ

and

טִבְחָתִ֔י

ṭiḇ·ḥā·ṯî,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

טָבַ֖חְתִּי

ṭā·ḇaḥ·tî

､ לְגֹֽזְזָ֑י

lə·ḡō·zə·zāy;

for my shearers ､

וְנָֽתַתִּי֙

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

and give [it]

､ לַֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים

la·’ă·nā·šîm,

to men ､

אֲשֶׁר֙

the donkey ､

וַתִּפֹּ֞ל

and fell

לְאַפֵּ֤י

､ פָּנֶ֔יהָ

וַתִּשְׁתַּ֖חוּ

､ אָֽרֶץ׃

and said ､

my lord ､

הֶֽעָוֺ֑ן

[let] this iniquity [be]

וּֽתְדַבֶּר־

your maidservant ､

[as] lives ､

יְהוָ֤ה

and [as] lives ､

נַפְשְׁךָ֙

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

מְנָעֲךָ֤

mə·nā·‘ă·ḵā

has held you back

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

מִבּ֣וֹא

､ בְדָמִ֔ים

to bloodshed ､

וְהוֹשֵׁ֥עַ

wə·hō·wō·šê·a‘

and from avenging

､ יָדְךָ֖

yā·ḏə·ḵā

with your own hand ､

לָ֑ךְ

lāḵ;

וְעַתָּ֗ה

wə·‘at·tāh,

and then

יִֽהְי֤וּ

yih·yū

let be

. כְנָבָל֙

ḵə·nā·ḇāl

as Nabal .

､ אֹיְבֶ֔יךָ

’ō·yə·ḇe·ḵā,

Your enemies ､

וְהַֽמְבַקְשִׁ֥ים

wə·ham·ḇaq·šîm

and those who seek

אֶל־

’el-

､ אֲדֹנִ֖י

’ă·ḏō·nî

my lord ､

. רָעָֽה׃

rā·‘āh.

וְעַתָּה֙

wə·‘at·tāh

הַבְּרָכָ֣ה

hab·bə·rā·ḵāh

הַזֹּ֔את

haz·zōṯ,

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

הֵבִ֥יא

hê·ḇî

שִׁפְחָתְךָ֖

šip̄·ḥā·ṯə·ḵā

your maidservant

､ לַֽאדֹנִ֑י

la·ḏō·nî;

to my lord ､

וְנִתְּנָה֙

wə·nit·tə·nāh

and let it be given

לַנְּעָרִ֔ים

lan·nə·‘ā·rîm,

to the young men

הַמִּֽתְהַלְּכִ֖ים

ham·miṯ·hal·lə·ḵîm

בְּרַגְלֵ֥י

bə·raḡ·lê

-

. אֲדֹנִֽי׃

’ă·ḏō·nî.

my lord .

שָׂ֥א

לְפֶ֣שַׁע

lə·p̄e·ša‘

– אֲמָתֶ֑ךָ

of your maidservant –

עָשֹֽׂה־

יַעֲשֶׂה֩

will make

יְהוָ֨ה

an house –

נֶאֱמָ֗ן

ne·’ĕ·mān,

כִּי־

מִלְחֲמ֤וֹת

､ יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

of Yahweh ､

אֲדֹנִ֣י

’ă·ḏō·nî

נִלְחָ֔ם

nil·ḥām,

וְרָעָ֛ה

wə·rā·‘āh

and evil

לֹא־

lō-

not

תִמָּצֵ֥א

ṯim·mā·ṣê

בְךָ֖

ḇə·ḵā

in you

. מִיָּמֶֽיךָ׃

mî·yā·me·ḵā.

throughout your days .

וַיָּ֤קָם

way·yā·qām

And yet has risen

אָדָם֙

’ā·ḏām

לִרְדָפְךָ֔

lir·ḏā·p̄ə·ḵā,

וּלְבַקֵּ֖שׁ

ū·lə·ḇaq·qêš

and seek

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ נַפְשֶׁ֑ךָ

nap̄·še·ḵā;

וְֽהָיְתָה֩

wə·hā·yə·ṯāh

but shall be

נֶ֨פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

the life

אֲדֹנִ֜י

’ă·ḏō·nî

of my lord

צְרוּרָ֣ה ׀

ṣə·rū·rāh

בִּצְר֣וֹר

biṣ·rō·wr

in the bundle

הַחַיִּ֗ים

ha·ḥay·yîm,

of the living

אֵ֚ת

’êṯ

with

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

– אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ

’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā,

וְאֵ֨ת

wə·’êṯ

and

נֶ֤פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

､ אֹיְבֶ֙יךָ֙

’ō·yə·ḇe·ḵā

of your enemies ､

､ יְקַלְּעֶ֔נָּה

He shall sling out ､

בְּת֖וֹךְ

of the middle

[as [from] the pocket

. הַקָּֽלַע׃

of a sling .

､ וְהָיָ֗ה

wə·hā·yāh,

And it shall come to pass ､

according to all

the good

עָלֶ֑יךָ

and has appointed you

לְנָגִ֖יד

עַל־

– יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

וְלִשְׁפָּךְ־

that either you have shed

דָּם֙

dām

､ חִנָּ֔ם

ḥin·nām,

without cause ､

וּלְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ

ū·lə·hō·wō·šî·a‘

or that has avenged

אֲדֹנִ֖י

’ă·ḏō·nî

ל֑וֹ

lōw;

וְהֵיטִ֤ב

wə·hê·ṭiḇ

but when has dealt well

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

､ לַֽאדֹנִ֔י

la·ḏō·nî,

with my lord ､

וְזָכַרְתָּ֖

wə·zā·ḵar·tā

אֶת־

’eṯ-

. אֲמָתֶֽךָ׃

your maidservant .

to meet me

And went

אֲבִיגַ֣יִל ׀

and there ､

holding a feast

in his house ､

of a king –

and heart [was]

for he [was]

– שִׁכֹּ֖ר

וַתַּגֶּד־

אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ

’eṯ-

､ הַדְּבָרִ֖ים

had·də·ḇā·rîm

הָאֵ֑לֶּה

hā·’êl·leh;

וַיָּ֤מָת

way·yā·māṯ

and died

לִבּוֹ֙

בְּקִרְבּ֔וֹ

bə·qir·bōw,

וְה֖וּא

and he

to the earth ､

and rose ､

אֲבִיגַ֗יִל

’ă·ḇî·ḡa·yil,

וַתִּרְכַּב֙

wat·tir·kaḇ

and rode

עַֽל־

‘al-

on

､ הַחֲמ֔וֹר

ha·ḥă·mō·wr,

a donkey ､

וְחָמֵשׁ֙

wə·ḥā·mêš

and [by] five

נַעֲרֹתֶ֔יהָ

na·‘ă·rō·ṯe·hā,

הַהֹלְכ֖וֹת

ha·hō·lə·ḵō·wṯ

לְרַגְלָ֑הּ

lə·raḡ·lāh;

וַתֵּ֗לֶךְ

wat·tê·leḵ,

and she followed

אַֽחֲרֵי֙

’a·ḥă·rê

מַלְאֲכֵ֣י

mal·’ă·ḵê

､ דָוִ֔ד
