through the land

､ שָׁלִ֖שָׁה

of Shalisha ､

– וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

but not –

מָצָ֑אוּ

mā·ṣā·’ū;

they did find [them]

וַיַּעַבְר֤וּ

way·ya·‘aḇ·rū

and they passed

בְאֶֽרֶץ־

ḇə·’e·reṣ-

through the land

､ שַׁעֲלִים֙

ša·‘ă·lîm

of Shaalim ､

– וָאַ֔יִן

wā·’a·yin,

and [they were] not [there] –

וַיַּעֲבֹ֥ר

way·ya·‘ă·ḇōr

and he passed

בְּאֶֽרֶץ־

bə·’e·reṣ-

through the land

יְמִינִ֖י

of the Benjamite

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

but not

. מָצָֽאוּ׃

they did find [them] .

the man ؟

כִּ֤י

הַלֶּ֙חֶם֙

אָזַ֣ל

’ā·zal

､ מִכֵּלֵ֔ינוּ

mik·kê·lê·nū,

in our vessels ､

וּתְשׁוּרָ֥ה

ū·ṯə·šū·rāh

and [there is] present

אֵין־

לְהָבִ֖יא

לְאִ֣ישׁ

to the man

הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים

Look ､

נִמְצָ֣א

בְיָדִ֔י

רֶ֖בַע

שֶׁ֣קֶל

– כָּ֑סֶף

kā·sep̄;

of silver –

וְנָֽתַתִּי֙

wə·nā·ṯat·tî

and I will give [that]

לְאִ֣ישׁ

lə·’îš

to the man

､ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,

of God ､

וְהִגִּ֥יד

wə·hig·gîḏ

and to tell

לָ֖נוּ

lā·nū

us

. דַּרְכֵּֽנוּ׃

לְפָנִ֣ים ׀

､ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

[he who is called] a prophet

יִקָּרֵ֥א

לְפָנִ֖ים

. הָרֹאֶֽה׃

a seer .

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

And said

שָׁא֧וּל

､ לְנַעֲר֛וֹ

to his servant ､

ט֥וֹב

ṭō·wḇ

– דְּבָרְךָ֖

də·ḇā·rə·ḵā

said –

､ לְכָ֣ה ׀

lə·ḵāh

come ､

. נֵלֵ֑כָה

nê·lê·ḵāh;

let us go .

וַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙

some young women

יֹצְא֖וֹת

לִשְׁאֹ֣ב

､ מָ֑יִם

וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ

and said

לָהֶ֔ן

lā·hen,

הֲיֵ֥שׁ

בָּזֶ֖ה

in this [place]

؟ הָרֹאֶֽה׃

וַתַּעֲנֶ֧ינָה

､ וַתֹּאמַ֥רְנָה

and said ､

– יֵּ֖שׁ

that he may save

לְפָנַי֙

– הַבָּמָ֔ה

hab·bā·māh,

to the high place –

וַאֲכַלְתֶּ֥ם

wa·’ă·ḵal·tem

for you shall eat

עִמִּ֖י

‘im·mî

with me

､ הַיּ֑וֹם

hay·yō·wm;

､ וְשִׁלַּחְתִּ֣יךָ

wə·šil·laḥ·tî·ḵā

and I will let you go ､

בַבֹּ֔קֶר

ḇab·bō·qer,

וְכֹ֛ל

wə·ḵōl

and all

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

that [is]

､ הַקְּרוּאִ֔ים

haq·qə·rū·’îm,

among those who were invited ､

וְהֵ֖מָּה

אֵלֶ֔יךָ

to you

שִׂ֥ים

śîm

אֹתָ֖הּ

’ō·ṯāh

it

. עִמָּֽךְ׃

‘im·māḵ.

וַיָּ֣רֶם

way·yā·rem

So took up

הַ֠טַּבָּח

haṭ·ṭab·bāḥ

the cook

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַשּׁ֨וֹק

haš·šō·wq

the leg ､

וְהֶעָלֶ֜יהָ

wə·he·‘ā·le·hā

and what was attached to it

וַיָּ֣שֶׂם ׀

way·yā·śem

and set [it]

לִפְנֵ֣י

lip̄·nê

. שָׁא֗וּל

šā·’ūl,

､ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

way·yō·mer

And [Samuel] said ､

הִנֵּ֤ה

hin·nêh

Here it is

! הַנִּשְׁאָר֙

han·niš·’ār

what was kept back !

שִׂים־

śîm-

[It] was set apart

לְפָנֶ֣יךָ

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā

､ אֱכֹ֔ל

’ĕ·ḵōl,

Eat ､

כִּ֧י

kî

לַמּוֹעֵ֛ד

lam·mō·w·‘êḏ

until this time

שָֽׁמוּר־

šā·mūr-

it has been kept

לְךָ֥

lə·ḵā

､ לֵאמֹ֖ר

lê·mōr

since I said ､

. הָעָ֣ם ׀

hā·‘ām

the people .

קָרָ֑אתִי

qā·rā·ṯî;

וַיֹּ֧אכַל

way·yō·ḵal

so ate

שָׁא֛וּל

šā·’ūl

עִם־

‘im-

with

שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל

šə·mū·’êl

בַּיּ֥וֹם

bay·yō·wm

. הַהֽוּא׃

ha·hū.

וַיֵּרְד֥וּ

way·yê·rə·ḏū

And when they had come down

מֵהַבָּמָ֖ה

mê·hab·bā·māh

from the high place

､ הָעִ֑יר

hā·‘îr;

into the city ､

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר

way·ḏab·bêr

and [Samuel] spoke

עִם־

‘im-

with

שָׁא֖וּל

šā·’ūl

עַל־

‘al-

on

. הַגָּֽג׃

hag·gāḡ.

the top of the house .

– וַיַּשְׁכִּ֗מוּ

way·yaš·ki·mū,

And they arose early –

וַיְהִ֞י

way·hî

and it was

כַּעֲל֤וֹת

ka·‘ă·lō·wṯ

about the dawning

､ הַשַּׁ֙חַר֙

haš·ša·ḥar

of the day ､

וַיִּקְרָ֨א

way·yiq·rā

שְׁמוּאֵ֤ל

šə·mū·’êl

אֶל־

’el-

to

שָׁאוּל֙

šā·’ūl

[הגג]

hag·gāḡ

-

､ (הַגָּ֣גָה)

hag·gā·ḡāh

on the top of the house ､

､ לֵאמֹ֔ר

lê·mōr,

､ ק֖וּמָה

qū·māh

Get up ､

. וַאֲשַׁלְּחֶ֑ךָּ

wa·’ă·šal·lə·ḥe·kā;

that I may send you on your way .

､ וַיָּ֣קָם

way·yā·qām

And arose ､

שָׁא֗וּל

šā·’ūl,

וַיֵּצְא֧וּ

way·yê·ṣə·’ū

and went

שְׁנֵיהֶ֛ם

šə·nê·hem

the two of them

ה֥וּא

hū

he

､ וּשְׁמוּאֵ֖ל

ū·šə·mū·’êl

and Samuel ､

. הַחֽוּצָה׃

ha·ḥū·ṣāh.

הֵ֗מָּה

hêm·māh,

יֽוֹרְדִים֙

yō·wr·ḏîm

as were going down

בִּקְצֵ֣ה

biq·ṣêh

to the outskirts

､ הָעִ֔יר

hā·‘îr,

of the city ､

וּשְׁמוּאֵ֞ל

ū·šə·mū·’êl

אָמַ֣ר

’ā·mar

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ שָׁא֗וּל

šā·’ūl,

Saul ､

אֱמֹ֥ר

’ĕ·mōr

לַנַּ֛עַר

lan·na·‘ar

וְיַעֲבֹ֥ר

wə·ya·‘ă·ḇōr

and to go on

לְפָנֵ֖ינוּ

lə·p̄ā·nê·nū

ahead of us

וַֽיַּעֲבֹ֑ר

way·ya·‘ă·ḇōr;

and he went on

וְאַתָּה֙

wə·’at·tāh

but you

עֲמֹ֣ד

‘ă·mōḏ

､ כַּיּ֔וֹם

kay·yō·wm,

וְאַשְׁמִיעֲךָ֖

wə·’aš·mî·‘ă·ḵā

that I may announce to you

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

דְּבַ֥ר

də·ḇar

the word

. אֱלֹהִֽים׃

’ĕ·lō·hîm.

of God .
