and while he was confessing ､

וּמִתְנַפֵּ֔ל

and bowing down

[one] of the sons

[עולם]

､ (עֵילָם֙)

‘ê·lām

Elam ､

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said

､ לְעֶזְרָ֔א

lə·‘ez·rā,

to Ezra ､

אֲנַ֙חְנוּ֙

’ă·naḥ·nū

we

מָעַ֣לְנוּ

mā·‘al·nū

have trespassed

､ בֵאלֹהֵ֔ינוּ

ḇê·lō·hê·nū,

against our God ､

וַנֹּ֛שֶׁב

wan·nō·šeḇ

נָשִׁ֥ים

nā·šîm

נָכְרִיּ֖וֹת

nā·ḵə·rî·yō·wṯ

מֵעַמֵּ֣י

mê·‘am·mê

from the peoples

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

of the land –

וְעַתָּ֛ה

wə·‘at·tāh

and yet

יֵשׁ־

yêš-

מִקְוֶ֥ה

miq·weh

לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

lə·yiś·rā·’êl

עַל־

‘al-

. זֹֽאת׃

zōṯ.

of this .

וְעַתָּ֣ה

wə·‘at·tāh

נִֽכְרָת־

niḵ·rāṯ-

בְּרִ֣ית

bə·rîṯ

לֵ֠אלֹהֵינוּ

lê·lō·hê·nū

with our God

לְהוֹצִ֨יא

lə·hō·w·ṣî

כָל־

ḵāl

､ נָשִׁ֜ים

nā·šîm

these wives ､

וְהַנּוֹלָ֤ד

wə·han·nō·w·lāḏ

and those who have been born

מֵהֶם֙

mê·hem

בַּעֲצַ֣ת

ba·‘ă·ṣaṯ

according to the advice of

אֲדֹנָ֔י

’ă·ḏō·nāy,

וְהַחֲרֵדִ֖ים

wə·ha·ḥă·rê·ḏîm

and of those who tremble

בְּמִצְוַ֣ת

bə·miṣ·waṯ

at the commandment

– אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ

’ĕ·lō·hê·nū;

of our God –

וְכַתּוֹרָ֖ה

wə·ḵat·tō·w·rāh

and according to the law

. יֵעָשֶֽׂה׃

yê·‘ā·śeh.

let it be done .

– ק֛וּם

qūm

כִּֽי־

kî-

עָלֶ֥יךָ

‘ā·le·ḵā

your [responsibility]

הַדָּבָ֖ר

had·dā·ḇār

[this] matter [is]

וַאֲנַ֣חְנוּ

wa·’ă·naḥ·nū

and we [are]

עִמָּ֑ךְ

‘im·māḵ;

with you

､ חֲזַ֖ק

ḥă·zaq

Be of good courage ､

. וַעֲשֵֽׂה׃

wa·‘ă·śêh.

and do [it] .

and made swear an oath

of the priests ､

the Levites ､

וְכָל־

לַעֲשׂ֛וֹת

that they would do

כַּדָּבָ֥ר

kad·dā·ḇār

according to word

הַזֶּ֖ה

haz·zeh

. וַיִּשָּׁבֵֽעוּ׃

way·yiš·šā·ḇê·‘ū.

so they swore an oath .

of the guilt

. הַגּוֹלָֽה׃

of those from the captivity .

that they must gather

– יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

at Jerusalem –

וְכֹל֩

､ הַיָּמִ֗ים

according to the instructions

הַשָּׂרִים֙

of the leaders

､ וְהַזְּקֵנִ֔ים

wə·haz·zə·qê·nîm,

and elders ､

､ יָחֳרַ֖ם

would be confiscated ､

כָּל־

kāl-

רְכוּשׁ֑וֹ

rə·ḵū·šōw;

וְה֥וּא

wə·hū

and he

יִבָּדֵ֖ל

yib·bā·ḏêl

would be separated

מִקְּהַ֥ל

miq·qə·hal

from the assembly

. הַגּוֹלָֽה׃

of those from the captivity .

It [was]

､ חֹ֥דֶשׁ

on [day] twenty

– בַּחֹ֑דֶשׁ

of the month –

וַיֵּשְׁב֣וּ

and sat

כָל־

ḵāl

הָעָ֗ם

hā·‘ām,

בִּרְחוֹב֙

bir·ḥō·wḇ

in the open square

בֵּ֣ית

bêṯ

of the house

､ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm,

of God ､

מַרְעִידִ֥ים

mar·‘î·ḏîm

עַל־

‘al-

､ הַדָּבָ֖ר

had·dā·ḇār

of [this] matter ､

. וּמֵהַגְּשָׁמִֽים׃

ū·mê·hag·gə·šā·mîm.

and because of heavy rain .

And stood up ､

עֶזְרָ֤א

הַכֹּהֵן֙

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

and said

אֲלֵהֶ֔ם

’ă·lê·hem,

אַתֶּ֣ם

’at·tem

､ מְעַלְתֶּ֔ם

mə·‘al·tem,

have transgressed ､

וַתֹּשִׁ֖יבוּ

wat·tō·šî·ḇū

､ נָשִׁ֣ים

nā·šîm

נָכְרִיּ֑וֹת

nā·ḵə·rî·yō·wṯ;

לְהוֹסִ֖יף

lə·hō·w·sîp̄

עַל־

‘al-

to

אַשְׁמַ֥ת

the guilt of

. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

וְעַתָּ֗ה

wə·‘at·tāh,

תְּנ֥וּ

לַיהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

אֱלֹהֵֽי־

､ אֲבֹתֵיכֶ֖ם

of your fathers ､

וַעֲשׂ֣וּ

wa·‘ă·śū

and do

– רְצוֹנ֑וֹ

rə·ṣō·w·nōw;

His will –

וְהִבָּֽדְלוּ֙

wə·hib·bā·ḏə·lū

and separate yourselves

מֵעַמֵּ֣י

mê·‘am·mê

from the peoples

､ הָאָ֔רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

of the land ､

וּמִן־

ū·min-

and from

הַנָּשִׁ֖ים

han·nā·šîm

. הַנָּכְרִיּֽוֹת׃

han·nā·ḵə·rî·yō·wṯ.

וַיַּֽעְנ֧וּ

way·ya‘·nū

כָֽל־

ḵāl

הַקָּהָ֛ל

haq·qā·hāl

וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ

way·yō·mə·rū

and said

､ ק֣וֹל

qō·wl

with a voice ､

גָּד֑וֹל

gā·ḏō·wl;

כֵּ֛ן

[כדבריך]

(כִּדְבָרְךָ֥)

as you have said

עָלֵ֖ינוּ

But

הָעָ֥ם

hā·‘ām

[there are] people

､ רָב֙

rāḇ

many ､

וְהָעֵ֣ת

wə·hā·‘êṯ

and [it is] the season for

､ גְּשָׁמִ֔ים

gə·šā·mîm,

וְאֵ֥ין

wə·’ên

and not

כֹּ֖חַ

kō·aḥ

לַעֲמ֣וֹד

la·‘ă·mō·wḏ

､ בַּח֑וּץ

ba·ḥūṣ;

וְהַמְּלָאכָ֗ה

wə·ham·mə·lā·ḵāh,

and the work

לֹֽא־

lō-

לְי֤וֹם

lə·yō·wm

אֶחָד֙

’e·ḥāḏ

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

or

– לִשְׁנַ֔יִם

liš·na·yim,

two –

כִּֽי־

kî-

הִרְבִּ֥ינוּ

[there are] many of us

לִפְשֹׁ֖עַ

lip̄·šō·a‘

who have transgressed

בַּדָּבָ֥ר

､ יַֽעֲמְדוּ־

ya·‘ăm·ḏū-

נָ֣א

at times ､

מְזֻמָּנִ֔ים

וְעִמָּהֶ֛ם

and together with

זִקְנֵי־

ziq·nê-

עִ֥יר

‘îr

､ וָעִ֖יר

wā·‘îr

and their cities ､

וְשֹׁפְטֶ֑יהָ

wə·šō·p̄ə·ṭe·hā;

until is turned away

And did .

the priest ､

[with] certain

רָאשֵׁ֧י

､ הָאָב֛וֹת

of the fathers' [households] ､

לְבֵ֥ית

lə·ḇêṯ

by the [households]

､ אֲבֹתָ֖ם

’ă·ḇō·ṯām

וְכֻלָּ֣ם

wə·ḵul·lām

and each of them

､ בְּשֵׁמ֑וֹת

bə·šê·mō·wṯ;

by name ､

וַיֵּשְׁב֗וּ

way·yê·šə·ḇū,

and they sat down

בְּי֤וֹם

bə·yō·wm

on the day

אֶחָד֙

’e·ḥāḏ

לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ

la·ḥō·ḏeš

of the month

הָעֲשִׂירִ֔י

hā·‘ă·śî·rî,

לְדַרְי֖וֹשׁ

lə·ḏar·yō·wōš

. הַדָּבָֽר׃

had·dā·ḇār.

the matter .

וַיְכַלּ֣וּ

way·ḵal·lū

And they finished [questioning]

בַכֹּ֔ל

ḇak·kōl,

And [the following] were found

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

הֹשִׁ֖יבוּ

hō·šî·ḇū

– נָשִׁ֣ים

נָכְרִיּ֑וֹת

nā·ḵə·rî·yō·wṯ;

מִבְּנֵ֨י

mib·bə·nê

of the sons

יֵשׁ֤וּעַ

yê·šū·a‘

בֶּן־

ben-

､ יֽוֹצָדָק֙

yō·w·ṣā·ḏāq

of Jozadak ､

– וְאֶחָ֔יו

wə·’e·ḥāw,

and his brothers –

､ מַֽעֲשֵׂיָה֙

ma·‘ă·śê·yāh

､ וֶֽאֱלִיעֶ֔זֶר

we·’ĕ·lî·‘e·zer,

and Eliezer ､

､ וְיָרִ֖יב

wə·yā·rîḇ

and Jarib ､

. וּגְדַלְיָֽה׃

ū·ḡə·ḏal·yāh.

וַיִּתְּנ֥וּ

way·yit·tə·nū

יָדָ֖ם

yā·ḏām

לְהוֹצִ֣יא

lə·hō·w·ṣî

that they would put away

– נְשֵׁיהֶ֑ם

nə·šê·hem;

their wives –

､ וַאֲשֵׁמִ֥ים

wa·’ă·šê·mîm

and [being] guilty ､

אֵֽיל־

’êl-

[they presented] a ram

צֹ֖אן

ṣōn

of the flock

עַל־

‘al-

as

. אַשְׁמָתָֽם׃

’aš·mā·ṯām.

their trespass offering .

And of the sons

– אִמֵּ֔ר

of Immer –

､ חֲנָ֖נִי

And of the sons

– חָרִ֑ם

of Harim –

､ מַעֲשֵׂיָ֤ה

wə·’ê·lî·yāh

and Elijah ､

､ וּֽשְׁמַֽעְיָ֔ה

ū·šə·ma‘·yāh,

and Shemaiah ､

､ וִיחִיאֵ֖ל

wî·ḥî·’êl

. וְעֻזִיָּֽה׃

wə·‘u·zî·yāh.

and Uzziah .

וּמִבְּנֵ֖י

ū·mib·bə·nê

And of the sons

– פַּשְׁח֑וּר

paš·ḥūr;

of Pashhur –

､ אֶלְיוֹעֵינַ֤י

’el·yō·w·‘ê·nay

､ מַֽעֲשֵׂיָה֙

ma·‘ă·śê·yāh

､ יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל

yiš·mā·‘êl

､ נְתַנְאֵ֔ל

nə·ṯan·’êl,

､ יוֹזָבָ֖ד

yō·w·zā·ḇāḏ

. וְאֶלְעָשָֽׂה׃

wə·’el·‘ā·śāh.

and Kelaiah ､

he [is]

קְלִיטָ֔א

､ פְּתַֽחְיָ֥ה

､ יְהוּדָ֖ה

. וֶאֱלִיעֶֽזֶר׃

we·’ĕ·lî·‘e·zer.

– אֶלְיָשִׁ֑יב

of the gatekeepers –

､ שַׁלֻּ֥ם

､ וָטֶ֖לֶם

and Telem ､

and Mijamin ､

､ וְאֶלְעָזָ֔ר

wə·’el·‘ā·zār,

and Eleazar ､

､ וּמַלְכִּיָּ֖ה

ū·mal·kî·yāh

and Malchijah ､

. וּבְנָיָֽה׃
