. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

the earth .

וְהָאָ֗רֶץ

wə·hā·’ā·reṣ,

And the earth

הָיְתָ֥ה

hā·yə·ṯāh

､ תֹ֙הוּ֙

ṯō·hū

– וָבֹ֔הוּ

wā·ḇō·hū,

and void –

וְחֹ֖שֶׁךְ

wə·ḥō·šeḵ

עַל־

‘al-

פְּנֵ֣י

pə·nê

the face

. תְה֑וֹם

ṯə·hō·wm;

of the deep .

וְר֣וּחַ

wə·rū·aḥ

And the Spirit

אֱלֹהִ֔ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

of God

מְרַחֶ֖פֶת

mə·ra·ḥe·p̄eṯ

עַל־

‘al-

פְּנֵ֥י

pə·nê

the face

. הַמָּֽיִם׃

ham·mā·yim.

of the waters .

The First Day: Light

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

､ אֱלֹהִ֖ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

God ､

יְהִ֣י

yə·hî

– א֑וֹר

’ō·wr;

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

. אֽוֹר׃

’ō·wr.

וַיַּ֧רְא

way·yar

And saw

אֱלֹהִ֛ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הָא֖וֹר

hā·’ō·wr

the light ､

כִּי־

kî-

– ט֑וֹב

ṭō·wḇ;

[it was] good –

וַיַּבְדֵּ֣ל

way·yaḇ·dêl

אֱלֹהִ֔ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

בֵּ֥ין

bên

הָא֖וֹר

hā·’ō·wr

וּבֵ֥ין

ū·ḇên

. הַחֹֽשֶׁךְ׃

ha·ḥō·šeḵ.

וַיִּקְרָ֨א

way·yiq·rā

אֱלֹהִ֤ים ׀

’ĕ·lō·hîm

לָאוֹר֙

lā·’ō·wr

､ י֔וֹם

yō·wm,

day ､

וְלַחֹ֖שֶׁךְ

wə·la·ḥō·šeḵ

and the darkness

קָ֣רָא

qā·rā

. לָ֑יְלָה

lā·yə·lāh;

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

עֶ֥רֶב

וַֽיְהִי־

､ בֹ֖קֶר

The Second Day: Firmament

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

And said

､ אֱלֹהִ֔ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

God ､

יְהִ֥י

yə·hî

רָקִ֖יעַ

rā·qî·a‘

בְּת֣וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ

in the midst

– הַמָּ֑יִם

ham·mā·yim;

of the waters –

וִיהִ֣י

wî·hî

and let it

מַבְדִּ֔יל

maḇ·dîl,

בֵּ֥ין

bên

מַ֖יִם

ma·yim

. לָמָֽיִם׃

lā·mā·yim.

[and] the waters .

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ

way·ya·‘aś

אֱלֹהִים֮

’ĕ·lō·hîm

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הָרָקִיעַ֒

hā·rā·qî·a‘

the firmament ､

וַיַּבְדֵּ֗ל

way·yaḇ·dêl,

and He divided

בֵּ֤ין

bên

הַמַּ֙יִם֙

ham·ma·yim

אֲשֶׁר֙

’ă·šer

מִתַּ֣חַת

mit·ta·ḥaṯ

､ לָרָקִ֔יעַ

lā·rā·qî·a‘,

the firmament ､

וּבֵ֣ין

ū·ḇên

and

הַמַּ֔יִם

ham·ma·yim,

אֲשֶׁ֖ר

’ă·šer

מֵעַ֣ל

mê·‘al

– לָרָקִ֑יעַ

lā·rā·qî·a‘;

the firmament –

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

and it was

. כֵֽן׃

ḵên.

so .

וַיִּקְרָ֧א

way·yiq·rā

אֱלֹהִ֛ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

לָֽרָקִ֖יעַ

lā·rā·qî·a‘

. שָׁמָ֑יִם

šā·mā·yim;

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

עֶ֥רֶב

‘e·reḇ

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

､ בֹ֖קֶר

. שֵׁנִֽי׃

The Third Day: Dry Ground

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

､ אֱלֹהִ֗ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

God ､

יִקָּו֨וּ

yiq·qā·wū

let be gathered together

הַמַּ֜יִם

ham·ma·yim

מִתַּ֤חַת

mit·ta·ḥaṯ

､ הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙

haš·šā·ma·yim

the heavens ､

אֶל־

’el-

מָק֣וֹם

mā·qō·wm

､ אֶחָ֔ד

’e·ḥāḏ,

one ､

וְתֵרָאֶ֖ה

wə·ṯê·rā·’eh

– הַיַּבָּשָׁ֑ה

hay·yab·bā·šāh;

the dry [land] –

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

and it was

. כֵֽן׃

ḵên.

so .

וַיִּקְרָ֨א

way·yiq·rā

אֱלֹהִ֤ים ׀

’ĕ·lō·hîm

לַיַּבָּשָׁה֙

lay·yab·bā·šāh

the dry [land]

– אֶ֔רֶץ

’e·reṣ,

וּלְמִקְוֵ֥ה

ū·lə·miq·wêh

and the collection

הַמַּ֖יִם

ham·ma·yim

of the waters

קָרָ֣א

qā·rā

– יַמִּ֑ים

yam·mîm;

Seas –

וַיַּ֥רְא

way·yar

And saw

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

כִּי־

kî-

. טֽוֹב׃

ṭō·wḇ.

[it was] good .

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

､ אֱלֹהִ֗ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

God ､

תַּֽדְשֵׁ֤א

taḏ·šê

let bring forth

הָאָ֙רֶץ֙

hā·’ā·reṣ

､ דֶּ֔שֶׁא

de·še,

עֵ֚שֶׂב

‘ê·śeḇ

the herb

מַזְרִ֣יעַ

maz·rî·a‘

זֶ֔רַע

ze·ra‘,

､ עֵ֣ץ

‘êṣ

[and] the tree ､

פְּרִ֞י

pə·rî

עֹ֤שֶׂה

‘ō·śeh

פְּרִי֙

pə·rî

､ לְמִינ֔וֹ

lə·mî·nōw,

according to its kind ､

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

זַרְעוֹ־

zar·‘ōw-

seed [is]

ב֖וֹ

ḇōw

עַל־

‘al-

on

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the earth –

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

and it was

. כֵֽן׃

ḵên.

so .

וַתּוֹצֵ֨א

wat·tō·w·ṣê

And brought forth

הָאָ֜רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

､ דֶּ֠שֶׁא

de·še

עֵ֣שֶׂב

‘ê·śeḇ

the herb

מַזְרִ֤יעַ

maz·rî·a‘

זֶ֙רַע֙

ze·ra‘

､ לְמִינֵ֔הוּ

lə·mî·nê·hū,

according to its kind ､

וְעֵ֧ץ

wə·‘êṣ

and the tree

עֹֽשֶׂה־

‘ō·śeh-

､ פְּרִ֛י

pə·rî

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

זַרְעוֹ־

zar·‘ōw-

seed [is]

ב֖וֹ

ḇōw

– לְמִינֵ֑הוּ

according to its kind –

and saw

The Fourth Day: Sun, Moon, Stars

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

And said

､ אֱלֹהִ֗ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

God ､

יְהִ֤י

yə·hî

מְאֹרֹת֙

mə·’ō·rōṯ

בִּרְקִ֣יעַ

bir·qî·a‘

in the firmament

､ הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim,

of the heavens ､

לְהַבְדִּ֕יל

lə·haḇ·dîl

בֵּ֥ין

bên

הַיּ֖וֹם

hay·yō·wm

the day

וּבֵ֣ין

ū·ḇên

– הַלָּ֑יְלָה

hal·lā·yə·lāh;

the night –

וְהָי֤וּ

wə·hā·yū

and let them be

לְאֹתֹת֙

lə·’ō·ṯōṯ

וּלְמ֣וֹעֲדִ֔ים

ū·lə·mō·w·‘ă·ḏîm,

וּלְיָמִ֖ים

ū·lə·yā·mîm

. וְשָׁנִֽים׃

wə·šā·nîm.

and years .

וְהָי֤וּ

wə·hā·yū

And let them be

לִמְאוֹרֹת֙

lim·’ō·w·rōṯ

בִּרְקִ֣יעַ

bir·qî·a‘

in the firmament

､ הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim,

of the heavens ､

לְהָאִ֖יר

lə·hā·’îr

עַל־

‘al-

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the earth –

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

and it was

. כֵֽן׃

ḵên.

so .

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ

way·ya·‘aś

And made

אֱלֹהִ֔ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

שְׁנֵ֥י

הַמְּאֹרֹ֖ת

ham·mə·’ō·rōṯ

– הַגְּדֹלִ֑ים

hag·gə·ḏō·lîm;

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַמָּא֤וֹר

ham·mā·’ō·wr

הַגָּדֹל֙

hag·gā·ḏōl

לְמֶמְשֶׁ֣לֶת

lə·mem·še·leṯ

､ הַיּ֔וֹם

hay·yō·wm,

the day ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

הַמָּא֤וֹר

ham·mā·’ō·wr

הַקָּטֹן֙

haq·qā·ṭōn

לְמֶמְשֶׁ֣לֶת

lə·mem·še·leṯ

– הַלַּ֔יְלָה

hal·lay·lāh,

the night –

וְאֵ֖ת

wə·’êṯ

and [He made]

. הַכּוֹכָבִֽים׃

hak·kō·w·ḵā·ḇîm.

the stars .

וַיִּתֵּ֥ן

way·yit·tên

And set

אֹתָ֛ם

’ō·ṯām

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

בִּרְקִ֣יעַ

bir·qî·a‘

in the firmament

､ הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם

haš·šā·mā·yim;

of the heavens ､

לְהָאִ֖יר

lə·hā·’îr

עַל־

‘al-

､ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth ､

וְלִמְשֹׁל֙

wə·lim·šōl

and to rule

בַּיּ֣וֹם

bay·yō·wm

､ וּבַלַּ֔יְלָה

ū·ḇal·lay·lāh,

and over the night ､

וּֽלֲהַבְדִּ֔יל

ū·lă·haḇ·dîl,

and to divide

בֵּ֥ין

bên

הָא֖וֹר

hā·’ō·wr

וּבֵ֣ין

ū·ḇên

. הַחֹ֑שֶׁךְ

ha·ḥō·šeḵ;

וַיַּ֥רְא

way·yar

And saw

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

כִּי־

kî-

. טֽוֹב׃

ṭō·wḇ.

[it was] good .

וַֽיְהִי־

הַמַּ֔יִם

ham·ma·yim,

שֶׁ֖רֶץ

še·reṣ

with an abundance

נֶ֣פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

､ חַיָּ֑ה

ḥay·yāh;

וְעוֹף֙

wə·‘ō·wp̄

יְעוֹפֵ֣ף

yə·‘ō·w·p̄êp̄

עַל־

‘al-

､ הָאָ֔רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

the earth ､

עַל־

‘al-

פְּנֵ֖י

the face

רְקִ֥יעַ

rə·qî·a‘

of the firmament

. הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

of the sky .

וַיִּבְרָ֣א

וְהָע֖וֹף

The Sixth Day: Creatures on Land

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

And said

､ אֱלֹהִ֗ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

God ､

תּוֹצֵ֨א

tō·w·ṣê

let bring forth

הָאָ֜רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

נֶ֤פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

חַיָּה֙

ḥay·yāh

: לְמִינָ֔הּ

lə·mî·nāh,

according to its kind :

､ בְּהֵמָ֥ה

bə·hê·māh

､ וָרֶ֛מֶשׂ

wā·re·meś

and creeping thing ､

וְחַֽיְתוֹ־

wə·ḥay·ṯōw-

אֶ֖רֶץ

’e·reṣ

of the earth

– לְמִינָ֑הּ

lə·mî·nāh;

[each] according to its kind –

וַֽיְהִי־

And it was

. כֵֽן׃

so .

וַיַּ֣עַשׂ

And made

חַיַּ֨ת

הָֽאֲדָמָ֖ה

– לְמִינֵ֑הוּ

according to its kind –

וַיַּ֥רְא

and saw

כִּי־

[it was] good .

And said

God ､

נַֽעֲשֶׂ֥ה

na·‘ă·śeh

אָדָ֛ם

’ā·ḏām

､ בְּצַלְמֵ֖נוּ

bə·ṣal·mê·nū

in Our image ､

– כִּדְמוּתֵ֑נוּ

kiḏ·mū·ṯê·nū;

according to Our likeness –

וְיִרְדּוּ֩

wə·yir·dū

and let them rule

בִדְגַ֨ת

ḇiḏ·ḡaṯ

､ הַיָּ֜ם

hay·yām

of the sea ､

וּבְע֣וֹף

ū·ḇə·‘ō·wp̄

and over the birds

､ הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim,

of the air ､

､ וּבַבְּהֵמָה֙

ū·ḇab·bə·hê·māh

and over the livestock ､

וּבְכָל־

ū·ḇə·ḵāl

､ הָאָ֔רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

the earth ､

וּבְכָל־

ū·ḇə·ḵāl

הָרֶ֖מֶשׂ

hā·re·meś

הָֽרֹמֵ֥שׂ

hā·rō·mêś

עַל־

‘al-

on

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

וַיִּבְרָ֨א

way·yiḇ·rā

הָֽאָדָם֙

hā·’ā·ḏām

– בְּצַלְמ֔וֹ

bə·ṣal·mōw,

in His [own] image –

בְּצֶ֥לֶם

bə·ṣe·lem

in the image

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

בָּרָ֣א

bā·rā

אֹת֑וֹ

’ō·ṯōw;

זָכָ֥ר

zā·ḵār

וּנְקֵבָ֖ה

ū·nə·qê·ḇāh

בָּרָ֥א

bā·rā

. אֹתָֽם׃

’ō·ṯām.

וַיְבָ֣רֶךְ

way·ḇā·reḵ

אֹתָם֮

’ō·ṯām

אֱלֹהִים֒

’ĕ·lō·hîm

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said

לָהֶ֜ם

lā·hem

､ אֱלֹהִ֗ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm,

God ､

פְּר֥וּ

､ וּרְב֛וּ

ū·rə·ḇū

and multiply ､

וּמִלְא֥וּ

ū·mil·’ū

and fill

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

the earth ､

וְכִבְשֻׁ֑הָ

wə·ḵiḇ·šu·hā;

and subdue it

וּרְד֞וּ

ū·rə·ḏū

and have dominion

בִּדְגַ֤ת

biḏ·ḡaṯ

､ הַיָּם֙

hay·yām

of the sea ､

וּבְע֣וֹף

ū·ḇə·‘ō·wp̄

and over the birds

､ הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim,

of the air ､

וּבְכָל־

ū·ḇə·ḵāl

חַיָּ֖ה

ḥay·yāh

הָֽרֹמֶ֥שֶׂת

hā·rō·me·śeṯ

עַל־

‘al-

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

And said

､ אֱלֹהִ֗ים

､ הִנֵּה֩

hin·nêh

נָתַ֨תִּי

nā·ṯat·tî

לָכֶ֜ם

lā·ḵem

אֶת־

-

כָּל־

kāl-

עֵ֣שֶׂב ׀

זֹרֵ֣עַ

､ זֶ֗רַע

seed ､

אֲשֶׁר֙

which [is]

the face

the earth ､

אֲשֶׁר־

in [it]

[is] the fruit

of a tree

– זָ֑רַע

seed –

לָכֶ֥ם

to you

יִֽהְיֶ֖ה

it shall be

. לְאָכְלָֽה׃

וּֽלְכָל־

ū·lə·ḵāl-

And to every

חַיַּ֣ת

ḥay·yaṯ

､ הָ֠אָרֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

of the earth ､

וּלְכָל־

ū·lə·ḵāl-

and to every

ע֨וֹף

‘ō·wp̄

､ הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם

of the air ､

וּלְכֹ֣ל ׀

ū·lə·ḵōl

and to everything

רוֹמֵ֣שׂ

עַל־

חַיָּ֔ה

ḥay·yāh,

אֶת־

’eṯ-

､ כָּל־

kāl-

[I have given] every ､

יֶ֥רֶק

ye·req

עֵ֖שֶׂב

‘ê·śeḇ

– לְאָכְלָ֑ה

lə·’āḵ·lāh

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

and it was

. כֵֽן׃

ḵên.

so .

וַיַּ֤רְא

way·yar

And saw

אֱלֹהִים֙

’ĕ·lō·hîm

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כָּל־

kāl-

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ עָשָׂ֔ה

‘ā·śāh,

He had made ､

､ וְהִנֵּה־

wə·hin·nêh-

and indeed ､

ט֖וֹב

ṭō·wḇ

! מְאֹ֑ד

mə·’ōḏ;

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

עֶ֥רֶב

‘e·reḇ

וַֽיְהִי־

way·hî-

､ בֹ֖קֶר

ḇō·qer

י֥וֹם

yō·wm

. הַשִּׁשִּֽׁי׃
