וַיַּעַל֩

And went up

אַבְרָ֨ם

､ מִמִּצְרַ֜יִם

mim·miṣ·ra·yim

ה֠וּא

וְאִשְׁתּ֧וֹ

wə·’iš·tōw

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ ל֛וֹ

lōw

he had ､

וְל֥וֹט

wə·lō·wṭ

and Lot

､ עִמּ֖וֹ

‘im·mōw

with him ､

. הַנֶּֽגְבָּה׃

han·neḡ·bāh.

to the Negev .

וְאַבְרָ֖ם

wə·’aḇ·rām

כָּבֵ֣ד

kā·ḇêḏ

מְאֹ֑ד

mə·’ōḏ;

､ בַּמִּקְנֶ֕ה

bam·miq·neh

in livestock ､

､ בַּכֶּ֖סֶף

bak·ke·sep̄

in silver ､

. וּבַזָּהָֽב׃

ū·ḇaz·zā·hāḇ.

and in gold .

וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙

way·yê·leḵ

And he went

לְמַסָּעָ֔יו

lə·mas·sā·‘āw,

מִנֶּ֖גֶב

min·ne·ḡeḇ

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

and even

בֵּֽית־

bêṯ-

to

､ אֵ֑ל

’êl;

עַד־

‘aḏ-

to

הַמָּק֗וֹם

ham·mā·qō·wm,

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

הָ֨יָה

hā·yāh

שָׁ֤ם

šām

-

[אהלה]

’ā·ho·lōh

-

(אָֽהֳלוֹ֙)

’ā·ho·lōw

､ בַּתְּחִלָּ֔ה

bat·tə·ḥil·lāh,

at the beginning ､

､ הָעָֽי׃

of the altar ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

עָ֥שָׂה

‘ā·śāh

שָׁ֖ם

– בָּרִאשֹׁנָ֑ה

bā·ri·šō·nāh;

at first –

וַיִּקְרָ֥א

way·yiq·rā

שָׁ֛ם

אַבְרָ֖ם

בְּשֵׁ֥ם

on the name

Yah·weh.

וְגַם־

And also

､ לְל֔וֹט

Lot ､

הַהֹלֵ֖ךְ

ha·hō·lêḵ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

with

､ אַבְרָ֑ם

’aḇ·rām;

הָיָ֥ה

hā·yāh

､ צֹאן־

ṣōn-

､ וּבָקָ֖ר

ū·ḇā·qār

and herds ､

. וְאֹהָלִֽים׃

wə·’ō·hā·lîm.

and tents .

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

And not

נָשָׂ֥א

nā·śā

was able to support

אֹתָ֛ם

’ō·ṯām

､ הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

the land ､

לָשֶׁ֣בֶת

lā·še·ḇeṯ

that they might dwell

– יַחְדָּ֑ו

yaḥ·dāw;

כִּֽי־

kî-

הָיָ֤ה

hā·yāh

רְכוּשָׁם֙

rə·ḵū·šām

their possessions

רָ֔ב

rāḇ,

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

that not

יָֽכְל֖וּ

yā·ḵə·lū

לָשֶׁ֥בֶת

lā·še·ḇeṯ

. יַחְדָּֽו׃

yaḥ·dāw.

וַֽיְהִי־

וְהַפְּרִזִּ֔י

and the Perizzites

יֹשֵׁ֥ב

. בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

bā·’ā·reṣ.

in the land .

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

אַבְרָ֜ם

Lot ､

תְהִ֤י

､ רֹעֶ֑יךָ

rō·‘e·ḵā;

your herdsmen ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֲנָשִׁ֥ים

’ă·nā·šîm

אַחִ֖ים

’a·ḥîm

. אֲנָֽחְנוּ׃

’ă·nā·ḥə·nū.

we [are] .

הֲלֹ֤א

hă·lō

[Is] not

כָל־

ḵāl

הָאָ֙רֶץ֙

hā·’ā·reṣ

the land

؟ לְפָנֶ֔יךָ

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā,

､ הִפָּ֥רֶד

hip·pā·reḏ

נָ֖א

. מֵעָלָ֑י

mê·‘ā·lāy;

from me .

אִם־

’im-

､ הַשְּׂמֹ֣אל

haś·śə·mōl

the left ､

– וְאֵימִ֔נָה

wə·’ê·mi·nāh,

then I will go to the right –

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

､ הַיָּמִ֖ין

hay·yā·mîn

the right ､

. וְאַשְׂמְאִֽילָה׃

wə·’aś·mə·’î·lāh.

then I will go to the left .

Lot Pitches Toward Sodom

וַיִּשָּׂא־

way·yiś·śā-

And lifted up

אֶת־

､ עֵינָ֗יו

‘ê·nāw,

וַיַּרְא֙

and saw

כָּל־

of the Jordan ､

כִּ֥י

כֻלָּ֖הּ

it [was] well watered

לִפְנֵ֣י ׀

יְהוָ֗ה

וַיִּבְחַר־

And they separated

of Canaan ､

וְל֗וֹט

and Lot

יָשַׁב֙

בְּעָרֵ֣י

bə·‘ā·rê

in the cities

､ הַכִּכָּ֔ר

hak·kik·kār,

of the plain ､

וַיֶּאֱהַ֖ל

way·ye·’ĕ·hal

and pitched [his] tent

עַד־

‘aḏ-

. סְדֹֽם׃

sə·ḏōm.

וְאַנְשֵׁ֣י

wə·’an·šê

But the men

סְדֹ֔ם

sə·ḏōm,

רָעִ֖ים

rā·‘îm

וְחַטָּאִ֑ים

wə·ḥaṭ·ṭā·’îm;

לַיהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. מְאֹֽד׃

mə·’ōḏ.

God Renews the Promise to Abram

וַֽיהוָ֞ה

הִפָּֽרֶד־

and look

הַמָּק֖וֹם

אַתָּ֣ה

’at·tāh

שָׁ֑ם

šām;

､ צָפֹ֥נָה

ṣā·p̄ō·nāh

､ וָנֶ֖גְבָּה

wā·neḡ·bāh

and southward ､

､ וָקֵ֥דְמָה

wā·qê·ḏə·māh

and eastward ､

. וָיָֽמָּה׃

wā·yām·māh.

the land

to you

אֶתְּנֶ֑נָּה

וּֽלְזַרְעֲךָ֖

and your descendants

וְשַׂמְתִּ֥י

wə·śam·tî

And I will make

אֶֽת־

’eṯ-

זַרְעֲךָ֖

zar·‘ă·ḵā

your descendants

כַּעֲפַ֣ר

ka·‘ă·p̄ar

､ הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

of the earth ､

אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀

’ă·šer

אִם־

’im-

if

יוּכַ֣ל

yū·ḵal

אִ֗ישׁ

’îš,

לִמְנוֹת֙

lim·nō·wṯ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

עֲפַ֣ר

the dust

､ הָאָ֔רֶץ

of the earth ､

your descendants

. יִמָּנֶֽה׃

הִתְהַלֵּ֣ךְ

בָּאָ֔רֶץ

in the land

לְאָרְכָּ֖הּ

､ וּלְרָחְבָּ֑הּ

ū·lə·rā·ḥə·bāh;

and its width ､

כִּ֥י

לְךָ֖

lə·ḵā

to you

. אֶתְּנֶֽנָּה׃

’et·tə·nen·nāh.

I give it .

､ וַיֶּאֱהַ֣ל

way·ye·’ĕ·hal

And moved [his] tent ､

אַבְרָ֗ם

’aḇ·rām,

וַיָּבֹ֛א

way·yā·ḇō

and went

וַיֵּ֛שֶׁב

way·yê·šeḇ

בְּאֵלֹנֵ֥י

bə·’ê·lō·nê

by the oaks

､ מַמְרֵ֖א

mam·rê

of Mamre ､

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ בְּחֶבְר֑וֹן

bə·ḥeḇ·rō·wn;

in Hebron ､

וַיִּֽבֶן־

way·yi·ḇen-

and he built

שָׁ֥ם

šām

מִזְבֵּ֖חַ

miz·bê·aḥ

. לַֽיהוָֽה׃
