of the sojourn

תֹּלְד֣וֹת

the generations

the flock –

the sons

､ בִלְהָ֛ה

of Bilhah ､

וְאֶת־

of [many] colors .

וַיִּרְא֣וּ

way·yir·’ū

אֶחָ֗יו

’e·ḥāw,

כִּֽי־

אֹת֞וֹ

אָהַ֤ב

’ā·haḇ

אֲבִיהֶם֙

’ă·ḇî·hem

מִכָּל־

mik·kāl

､ אֶחָ֔יו

’e·ḥāw,

his brothers ､

וַֽיִּשְׂנְא֖וּ

way·yiś·nə·’ū

then they hated

אֹת֑וֹ

’ō·ṯōw;

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

and not

יָכְל֖וּ

yā·ḵə·lū

דַּבְּר֥וֹ

dab·bə·rōw

. לְשָׁלֹֽם׃

lə·šā·lōm.

וַיַּחֲלֹ֤ם

way·ya·ḥă·lōm

And had

יוֹסֵף֙

yō·w·sêp̄

､ חֲל֔וֹם

ḥă·lō·wm,

a dream ､

וַיַּגֵּ֖ד

way·yag·gêḏ

and he told [it]

､ לְאֶחָ֑יו

lə·’e·ḥāw;

to his brothers ､

. וַיּוֹסִ֥פוּ

way·yō·w·si·p̄ū

and .

ע֖וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

שְׂנֹ֥א

śə·nō

. אֹתֽוֹ׃

’ō·ṯōw.

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר

way·yō·mer

So he said

אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם

’ă·lê·hem;

､ שִׁמְעוּ־

šim·‘ū-

hear ､

､ נָ֕א

nā

הַחֲל֥וֹם

ha·ḥă·lō·wm

הַזֶּ֖ה

haz·zeh

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

. חָלָֽמְתִּי׃

ḥā·lā·mə·tî.

I have dreamed .

､ וְ֠הִנֵּה

wə·hin·nêh

And there ､

אֲנַ֜חְנוּ

’ă·naḥ·nū

we

מְאַלְּמִ֤ים

mə·’al·lə·mîm

אֲלֻמִּים֙

’ă·lum·mîm

בְּת֣וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ

in

､ הַשָּׂדֶ֔ה

haś·śā·ḏeh,

the field ､

､ וְהִנֵּ֛ה

wə·hin·nêh

and behold ､

､ קָ֥מָה

qā·māh

אֲלֻמָּתִ֖י

’ă·lum·mā·ṯî

וְגַם־

wə·ḡam-

and

– נִצָּ֑בָה

niṣ·ṣā·ḇāh;

stood upright –

､ וְהִנֵּ֤ה

wə·hin·nêh

and indeed ､

תְסֻבֶּ֙ינָה֙

ṯə·sub·be·nāh

stood all around

､ אֲלֻמֹּ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם

’ă·lum·mō·ṯê·ḵem,

your sheaves ､

וַתִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֖יןָ

wat·tiš·ta·ḥă·we·nā

. לַאֲלֻמָּתִֽי׃

la·’ă·lum·mā·ṯî.

to my sheaf .

וַיֹּ֤אמְרוּ

way·yō·mə·rū

And said

לוֹ֙

lōw

to him

､ אֶחָ֔יו

’e·ḥāw,

his brothers ､

הֲמָלֹ֤ךְ

hă·mā·lōḵ

תִּמְלֹךְ֙

tim·lōḵ

؟ עָלֵ֔ינוּ

‘ā·lê·nū,

over us ؟

אִם־

’im-

Or

מָשׁ֥וֹל

mā·šō·wl

תִּמְשֹׁ֖ל

tim·šōl

shall you have dominion

؟ בָּ֑נוּ

bā·nū;

over us ؟

וַיּוֹסִ֤פוּ

way·yō·w·si·p̄ū

so

עוֹד֙

‘ō·wḏ

שְׂנֹ֣א

śə·nō

אֹת֔וֹ

’ō·ṯōw,

עַל־

‘al-

､ חֲלֹמֹתָ֖יו

ḥă·lō·mō·ṯāw

וְעַל־

wə·‘al-

and for

. דְּבָרָֽיו׃

də·ḇā·rāw.

וַיַּחֲלֹ֥ם

way·ya·ḥă·lōm

And he dreamed

עוֹד֙

‘ō·wḏ

חֲל֣וֹם

ḥă·lō·wm

､ אַחֵ֔ר

’a·ḥêr,

וַיְסַפֵּ֥ר

way·sap·pêr

and told

אֹת֖וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

it

､ לְאֶחָ֑יו

lə·’e·ḥāw;

to his brothers ､

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

and said ､

､ הִנֵּ֨ה

hin·nêh

חָלַ֤מְתִּֽי

ḥā·lam·tî

חֲלוֹם֙

ḥă·lō·wm

– ע֔וֹד

‘ō·wḏ,

､ וְהִנֵּ֧ה

wə·hin·nêh

and this time ､

הַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁ

haš·še·meš

the sun

וְהַיָּרֵ֗חַ

wə·hay·yā·rê·aḥ,

and the moon

וְאַחַ֤ד

wə·’a·ḥaḏ

and one

עָשָׂר֙

‘ā·śār

and ten

כּֽוֹכָבִ֔ים

kō·w·ḵā·ḇîm,

מִֽשְׁתַּחֲוִ֖ים

miš·ta·ḥă·wîm

. לִֽי׃

lî.

to me .

וַיְסַפֵּ֣ר

way·sap·pêr

So he told [it]

אֶל־

､ אָבִיו֮

וְאֶל־

and

– אֶחָיו֒

his brothers –

וַיִּגְעַר־

way·yiḡ·‘ar-

בּ֣וֹ

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said

､ ל֔וֹ

lōw,

to him ､

מָ֛ה

māh

what [is]

הַחֲל֥וֹם

ha·ḥă·lō·wm

הַזֶּ֖ה

haz·zeh

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

؟ חָלָ֑מְתָּ

ḥā·lā·mə·tā;

you have dreamed ؟

הֲב֣וֹא

hă·ḇō·w

נָב֗וֹא

nā·ḇō·w,

אֲנִי֙

’ă·nî

I

וְאִמְּךָ֣

wə·’im·mə·ḵā

and your mother

וְאַחֶ֔יךָ

wə·’a·ḥe·ḵā,

and your brothers

לְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֥ת

lə·hiš·ta·ḥă·wōṯ

לְךָ֖

lə·ḵā

؟ אָֽרְצָה׃

’ā·rə·ṣāh.

to the ground ؟

וַיְקַנְאוּ־

way·qan·’ū-

ב֖וֹ

his brothers –

And said

יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל

אֶל־

to

､ יוֹסֵ֗ף

הֲל֤וֹא

Are not

אַחֶ֙יךָ֙

’a·ḥe·ḵā

רֹעִ֣ים

rō·‘îm

؟ בִּשְׁכֶ֔ם

biš·ḵem,

､ לְכָ֖ה

lə·ḵāh

come ､

וְאֶשְׁלָחֲךָ֣

wə·’eš·lā·ḥă·ḵā

and I will send you

אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם

’ă·lê·hem;

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

way·yō·mer

so he said

､ ל֖וֹ

lōw

to him ､

. הִנֵּֽנִי׃

hin·nê·nî.

Here I am .

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And he said

ל֗וֹ

lōw,

to him

､ לֶךְ־

leḵ-

go ､

､ נָ֨א

nā

רְאֵ֜ה

rə·’êh

and see

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

שְׁל֤וֹם

šə·lō·wm

if it is well with

､ אַחֶ֙יךָ֙

’a·ḥe·ḵā

your brothers ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

שְׁל֣וֹם

šə·lō·wm

well with

– הַצֹּ֔אן

haṣ·ṣōn,

the flocks –

וַהֲשִׁבֵ֖נִי

wa·hă·ši·ḇê·nî

and bring back to me

. דָּבָ֑ר

dā·ḇār;

וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֙הוּ֙

way·yiš·lā·ḥê·hū

So he sent him

מֵעֵ֣מֶק

mê·‘ê·meq

out of the Valley

､ חֶבְר֔וֹן

ḥeḇ·rō·wn,

of Hebron ､

וַיָּבֹ֖א

way·yā·ḇō

and he went

. שְׁכֶֽמָה׃

šə·ḵe·māh.

וַיִּמְצָאֵ֣הוּ

way·yim·ṣā·’ê·hū

､ אִ֔ישׁ

’îš,

a certain man ､

וְהִנֵּ֥ה

wə·hin·nêh

and there he was

תֹעֶ֖ה

ṯō·‘eh

– בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה

baś·śā·ḏeh;

in the field –

וַיִּשְׁאָלֵ֧הוּ

way·yiš·’ā·lê·hū

､ הָאִ֛ישׁ

hā·’îš

the man ､

､ לֵאמֹ֖ר

lê·mōr

מַה־

mah-

؟ תְּבַקֵּֽשׁ׃

tə·ḇaq·qêš.

､ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר

way·yō·mer

so he said ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אַחַ֖י

’a·ḥay

אָנֹכִ֣י

’ā·nō·ḵî

I

– מְבַקֵּ֑שׁ

mə·ḇaq·qêš;

am seeking –

הַגִּֽידָה־

hag·gî·ḏāh-

､ נָּ֣א

nā

לִ֔י

lî,

me

אֵיפֹ֖ה

’ê·p̄ōh

הֵ֥ם

hêm

؟ רֹעִֽים׃

rō·‘îm.

are pasturing ؟

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said

､ הָאִישׁ֙

hā·’îš

the man ､

נָסְע֣וּ

nā·sə·‘ū

they have departed

– מִזֶּ֔ה

miz·zeh,

from this [place] –

כִּ֤י

kî

שָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙

šā·ma‘·tî

､ אֹֽמְרִ֔ים

’ō·mə·rîm,

נֵלְכָ֖ה

nê·lə·ḵāh

let us go

. דֹּתָ֑יְנָה

dō·ṯā·yə·nāh;

וַיֵּ֤לֶךְ

way·yê·leḵ

יוֹסֵף֙

yō·w·sêp̄

אַחַ֣ר

’a·ḥar

､ אֶחָ֔יו

’e·ḥāw,

his brothers ､

וַיִּמְצָאֵ֖ם

way·yim·ṣā·’êm

. בְּדֹתָֽן׃

bə·ḏō·ṯān.

וַיִּרְא֥וּ

way·yir·’ū

Now when they saw

אֹת֖וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

､ מֵרָחֹ֑ק

mê·rā·ḥōq;

וּבְטֶ֙רֶם֙

ū·ḇə·ṭe·rem

and even before

יִקְרַ֣ב

yiq·raḇ

､ אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם

’ă·lê·hem,

וַיִּֽתְנַכְּל֥וּ

way·yiṯ·nak·kə·lū

then they conspired against

אֹת֖וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

. לַהֲמִיתֽוֹ׃

la·hă·mî·ṯōw.

וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ

way·yō·mə·rū

אִ֣ישׁ

’îš

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ אָחִ֑יו

’ā·ḥîw;

､ הִנֵּ֗ה

hin·nêh,

Look ､

בַּ֛עַל

ba·‘al

-

הַחֲלֹמ֥וֹת

ha·ḥă·lō·mō·wṯ

הַלָּזֶ֖ה

hal·lā·zeh

. בָּֽא׃

bā.

וְעַתָּ֣ה ׀

wə·‘at·tāh

לְכ֣וּ

lə·ḵū

וְנַֽהַרְגֵ֗הוּ

wə·na·har·ḡê·hū,

and let us kill him

וְנַשְׁלִכֵ֙הוּ֙

wə·naš·li·ḵê·hū

בְּאַחַ֣ד

bə·’a·ḥaḏ

､ הַבֹּר֔וֹת

hab·bō·rō·wṯ,

of the pits ､

､ וְאָמַ֕רְנוּ

wə·’ā·mar·nū

and we shall say ､

חַיָּ֥ה

ḥay·yāh

רָעָ֖ה

rā·‘āh

. אֲכָלָ֑תְהוּ

’ă·ḵā·lā·ṯə·hū;

has devoured him .

וְנִרְאֶ֕ה

wə·nir·’eh

and we shall see

מַה־

mah-

יִּהְי֖וּ

yih·yū

. חֲלֹמֹתָֽיו׃

ḥă·lō·mō·ṯāw.

of his dreams .

וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע

way·yiš·ma‘

But heard [it]

רְאוּבֵ֔ן

rə·’ū·ḇên,

וַיַּצִּלֵ֖הוּ

way·yaṣ·ṣi·lê·hū

and he delivered him

､ מִיָּדָ֑ם

mî·yā·ḏām;

out of their hands ､

､ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said ､

לֹ֥א

lō

not

נַכֶּ֖נּוּ

nak·ken·nū

. נָֽפֶשׁ׃

nā·p̄eš.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

אֲלֵהֶ֣ם ׀

’ă·lê·hem

､ רְאוּבֵן֮

rə·’ū·ḇên

אַל־

’al-

not

תִּשְׁפְּכוּ־

tiš·pə·ḵū-

､ דָם֒

ḏām

הַשְׁלִ֣יכוּ

haš·lî·ḵū

[but] cast

אֹת֗וֹ

’ō·ṯōw,

אֶל־

’el-

הַבּ֤וֹר

hab·bō·wr

הַזֶּה֙

haz·zeh

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

which [is]

､ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר

bam·miḏ·bār,

in the wilderness ､

וְיָ֖ד

wə·yāḏ

And a hand

אַל־

’al-

not

תִּשְׁלְחוּ־

tiš·lə·ḥū-

do lay

､ ב֑וֹ

ḇōw;

on him ､

לְמַ֗עַן

lə·ma·‘an,

הַצִּ֤יל

haṣ·ṣîl

he might deliver

אֹתוֹ֙

’ō·ṯōw

､ מִיָּדָ֔ם

mî·yā·ḏām,

out of their hands ､

לַהֲשִׁיב֖וֹ

la·hă·šî·ḇōw

and bring him back

אֶל־

’el-

to

. אָבִֽיו׃

’ā·ḇîw.

､ וַֽיְהִ֕י

way·hî

So it came to pass ､

כַּֽאֲשֶׁר־

ka·’ă·šer-

בָּ֥א

bā

יוֹסֵ֖ף

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ אֶחָ֑יו

’e·ḥāw;

his brothers ､

וַיַּפְשִׁ֤יטוּ

way·yap̄·šî·ṭū

that they stripped

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יוֹסֵף֙

yō·w·sêp̄

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ כֻּתָּנְתּ֔וֹ

kut·tā·nə·tōw,

of his robe ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כְּתֹ֥נֶת

kə·ṯō·neṯ

the robe

הַפַּסִּ֖ים

hap·pas·sîm

of [many] colors

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

. עָלָֽיו׃

‘ā·lāw.

on him .

וַיִּ֨קָּחֻ֔הוּ

way·yiq·qā·ḥu·hū,

And they took him

וַיַּשְׁלִ֥כוּ

way·yaš·li·ḵū

and cast

אֹת֖וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

. הַבֹּ֑רָה

hab·bō·rāh;

וְהַבּ֣וֹר

wə·hab·bō·wr

And the pit

､ רֵ֔ק

rêq,

[was] empty ､

אֵ֥ין

’ên

with no

בּ֖וֹ

bōw

in it

. מָֽיִם׃

mā·yim.

וַיֵּשְׁבוּ֮

way·yê·šə·ḇū

And they sat down

לֶֽאֱכָל־

le·’ĕ·ḵāl-

to eat

. לֶחֶם֒

le·ḥem

a meal .

וַיִּשְׂא֤וּ

way·yiś·’ū

and they lifted

עֵֽינֵיהֶם֙

‘ê·nê·hem

､ וַיִּרְא֔וּ

way·yir·’ū,

and looked ､

､ וְהִנֵּה֙

wə·hin·nêh

and there was ､

אֹרְחַ֣ת

’ō·rə·ḥaṯ

יִשְׁמְעֵאלִ֔ים

yiš·mə·‘ê·lîm,

בָּאָ֖ה

bā·’āh

. מִגִּלְעָ֑ד

mig·gil·‘āḏ;

וּגְמַלֵּיהֶ֣ם

ū·ḡə·mal·lê·hem

and with their camels

נֹֽשְׂאִ֗ים

nō·śə·’îm,

נְכֹאת֙

nə·ḵōṯ

וּצְרִ֣י

ū·ṣə·rî

and balm

､ וָלֹ֔ט

wā·lōṭ,

and myrrh ､

הוֹלְכִ֖ים

hō·wl·ḵîm

לְהוֹרִ֥יד

lə·hō·w·rîḏ

to carry [them] down

. מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃

miṣ·rā·yə·māh.

to Egypt .

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

way·yō·mer

יְהוּדָ֖ה

yə·hū·ḏāh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ אֶחָ֑יו

’e·ḥāw;

his brothers ､

מַה־

mah-

בֶּ֗צַע

be·ṣa‘,

profit [is there]

כִּ֤י

kî

if

נַהֲרֹג֙

na·hă·rōḡ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אָחִ֔ינוּ

’ā·ḥî·nū,

וְכִסִּ֖ינוּ

wə·ḵis·sî·nū

אֶת־

؟ דָּמֽוֹ׃

וְנִמְכְּרֶ֣נּוּ

and let us sell him

､ לַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִ֗ים

lay·yiš·mə·‘ê·lîm,

to the Ishmaelites ､

וְיָדֵ֙נוּ֙

wə·yā·ḏê·nū

אַל־

’al-

not

תְּהִי־

tə·hî-

let be

､ ב֔וֹ

ḇōw,

כִּֽי־

kî-

אָחִ֥ינוּ

’ā·ḥî·nū

בְשָׂרֵ֖נוּ

ḇə·śā·rê·nū

[and] our flesh

. ה֑וּא

hū;

he [is] .

וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֖וּ

וַיַּֽעַבְרוּ֩

way·ya·‘aḇ·rū

And passed by

אֲנָשִׁ֨ים

’ă·nā·šîm

מִדְיָנִ֜ים

miḏ·yā·nîm

– סֹֽחֲרִ֗ים

sō·ḥă·rîm,

וַֽיִּמְשְׁכוּ֙

way·yim·šə·ḵū

so they pulled up

וַיַּֽעֲל֤וּ

way·ya·‘ă·lū

and lifted up

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יוֹסֵף֙

yō·w·sêp̄

מִן־

min-

､ הַבּ֔וֹר

hab·bō·wr,

of the pit ､

וַיִּמְכְּר֧וּ

way·yim·kə·rū

and sold

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יוֹסֵ֛ף

לַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִ֖ים

lay·yiš·mə·‘ê·lîm

to the Ishmaelites

בְּעֶשְׂרִ֣ים

､ וְהִנֵּ֥ה

and indeed ､

אֵין־

’ên-

יוֹסֵ֖ף

yō·w·sêp̄

– בַּבּ֑וֹר

bab·bō·wr;

in the pit –

וַיִּקְרַ֖ע

way·yiq·ra‘

and he tore

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

. בְּגָדָֽיו׃

bə·ḡā·ḏāw.

וַיָּ֥שָׁב

way·yā·šāḇ

And he returned

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ אֶחָ֖יו

’e·ḥāw

his brothers ､

､ וַיֹּאמַ֑ר

way·yō·mar;

and said ､

הַיֶּ֣לֶד

hay·ye·leḏ

the boy [is]

– אֵינֶ֔נּוּ

’ê·nen·nū,

no [more] –

､ וַאֲנִ֖י

wa·’ă·nî

and I ､

אָ֥נָה

’ā·nāh

אֲנִי־

’ă·nî-

I

؟ בָֽא׃

ḇā.

shall go ؟

the robe

､ יוֹסֵ֑ף

of Joseph ､

וַֽיִּשְׁחֲטוּ֙

way·yiš·ḥă·ṭū

שְׂעִ֣יר

śə·‘îr

､ עִזִּ֔ים

‘iz·zîm,

of the goats ､

וַיִּטְבְּל֥וּ

way·yiṭ·bə·lū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַכֻּתֹּ֖נֶת

hak·kut·tō·neṯ

the robe

– בַּדָּֽם׃

bad·dām.

in the blood –

וַֽיְשַׁלְּח֞וּ

way·šal·lə·ḥū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כְּתֹ֣נֶת

kə·ṯō·neṯ

the robe

､ הַפַּסִּ֗ים

hap·pas·sîm,

of [many] colors ､

וַיָּבִ֙יאוּ֙

way·yā·ḇî·’ū

and they brought [it]

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ אֲבִיהֶ֔ם

’ă·ḇî·hem,

their father ､

､ וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ

way·yō·mə·rū

and said ､

זֹ֣את

zōṯ

– מָצָ֑אנוּ

mā·ṣā·nū;

we have found –

הַכֶּר־

hak·ker-

נָ֗א

nā,

､ הַכְּתֹ֧נֶת

hak·kə·ṯō·neṯ

the robe ､

בִּנְךָ֛

bin·ḵā

הִ֖וא

hî

it [is]

אִם־

’im-

. לֹֽא׃

lō.

not .

וַיַּכִּירָ֤הּ

way·yak·kî·rāh

And he recognized it

､ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

way·yō·mer

and said ､

כְּתֹ֣נֶת

kə·ṯō·neṯ

the robe

– בְּנִ֔י

bə·nî,

of my son –

חַיָּ֥ה

ḥay·yāh

רָעָ֖ה

rā·‘āh

! אֲכָלָ֑תְהוּ

’ă·ḵā·lā·ṯə·hū;

has devoured him !

טָרֹ֥ף

ṭā·rōp̄

טֹרַ֖ף

ṭō·rap̄

is torn to pieces

! יוֹסֵֽף׃

yō·w·sêp̄.

וַיִּקְרַ֤ע

way·yiq·ra‘

and tore

יַעֲקֹב֙

ya·‘ă·qōḇ

､ שִׂמְלֹתָ֔יו

śim·lō·ṯāw,

his clothes ､

וַיָּ֥שֶׂם

way·yā·śem

and put

שַׂ֖ק

śaq

､ בְּמָתְנָ֑יו

bə·mā·ṯə·nāw;

on his waist ､

וַיִּתְאַבֵּ֥ל

way·yiṯ·’ab·bêl

עַל־

‘al-

בְּנ֖וֹ

bə·nōw

יָמִ֥ים

yā·mîm

. רַבִּֽים׃

rab·bîm.

וַיָּקֻמוּ֩

way·yā·qu·mū

כָל־

ḵāl

､ בָּנָ֨יו

bā·nāw

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

בְּנֹתָ֜יו

bə·nō·ṯāw

､ לְנַחֲמ֗וֹ

lə·na·ḥă·mōw,

to comfort him ､

וַיְמָאֵן֙

way·mā·’ên

but he refused

. לְהִתְנַחֵ֔ם

lə·hiṯ·na·ḥêm,

to be comforted .

､ וַיֹּ֕אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And he said ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֵרֵ֧ד

’ê·rêḏ

I shall go down

אֶל־

’el-

to

בְּנִ֛י

bə·nî

my son

אָבֵ֖ל

’ā·ḇêl

､ שְׁאֹ֑לָה

šə·’ō·lāh;

into the grave ､

וַיֵּ֥בְךְּ

way·yê·ḇək

אֹת֖וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

. אָבִֽיו׃

’ā·ḇîw.

וְהַ֨מְּדָנִ֔ים

wə·ham·mə·ḏā·nîm,

And the Midianites

מָכְר֥וּ

mā·ḵə·rū

אֹת֖וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

אֶל־

’el-

in

מִצְרָ֑יִם

miṣ·rā·yim;

､ לְפֽוֹטִיפַר֙

lə·p̄ō·w·ṭî·p̄ar

to Potiphar ､

סְרִ֣יס

sə·rîs

､ פַּרְעֹ֔ה

par·‘ōh,

of Pharaoh ､

שַׂ֖ר

śar

. הַטַּבָּחִֽים׃

haṭ·ṭab·bā·ḥîm.

of the guard .
