וְלֹֽא־

And not

יָכֹ֨ל

יוֹסֵ֜ף

yō·w·sêp̄

לְהִתְאַפֵּ֗ק

lə·hiṯ·’ap·pêq,

restrain himself

לְכֹ֤ל

lə·ḵōl

הַנִּצָּבִים֙

han·niṣ·ṣā·ḇîm

those who stood

. עָלָ֔יו

‘ā·lāw,

by him .

וַיִּקְרָ֕א

way·yiq·rā

And he cried out

הוֹצִ֥יאוּ

hō·w·ṣî·’ū

כָל־

ḵāl

אִ֖ישׁ

’îš

– מֵעָלָ֑י

mê·‘ā·lāy;

from me –

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

So no

עָ֤מַד

‘ā·maḏ

אִישׁ֙

’îš

אִתּ֔וֹ

’it·tōw,

with him

בְּהִתְוַדַּ֥ע

bə·hiṯ·wad·da‘

while made himself known

יוֹסֵ֖ף

yō·w·sêp̄

אֶל־

’el-

to

. אֶחָֽיו׃

’e·ḥāw.

וַיִּתֵּ֥ן

way·yit·tên

And he

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

קֹל֖וֹ

qō·lōw

､ בִּבְכִ֑י

biḇ·ḵî;

wept ､

וַיִּשְׁמְע֣וּ

way·yiš·mə·‘ū

and

מִצְרַ֔יִם

miṣ·ra·yim,

וַיִּשְׁמַ֖ע

way·yiš·ma‘

בֵּ֥ית

bêṯ

. פַּרְעֹֽה׃

par·‘ōh.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

יוֹסֵ֤ף

yō·w·sêp̄

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ אֶחָיו֙

’e·ḥāw

his brothers ､

אֲנִ֣י

’ă·nî

I [am]

– יוֹסֵ֔ף

yō·w·sêp̄,

הַע֥וֹד

ha·‘ō·wḏ

אָבִ֖י

’ā·ḇî

؟ חָ֑י

ḥāy;

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

but not

יָכְל֤וּ

yā·ḵə·lū

אֶחָיו֙

’e·ḥāw

לַעֲנ֣וֹת

la·‘ă·nō·wṯ

､ אֹת֔וֹ

’ō·ṯōw,

him ､

כִּ֥י

kî

נִבְהֲל֖וּ

niḇ·hă·lū

they were terrified

. מִפָּנָֽיו׃

mip·pā·nāw.

in his presence .

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

יוֹסֵ֧ף

yō·w·sêp̄

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ אֶחָ֛יו

’e·ḥāw

his brothers ､

גְּשׁוּ־

gə·šū-

נָ֥א

nā

. אֵלַ֖י

’ê·lay

to me .

､ וַיִּגָּ֑שׁוּ

way·yig·gā·šū;

So they came near ､

､ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר

way·yō·mer,

and he said ､

אֲנִי֙

’ă·nî

I [am]

יוֹסֵ֣ף

yō·w·sêp̄

､ אֲחִיכֶ֔ם

’ă·ḥî·ḵem,

your brother ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

מְכַרְתֶּ֥ם

mə·ḵar·tem

אֹתִ֖י

’ō·ṯî

-

. מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃

miṣ·rā·yə·māh.

וְעַתָּ֣ה ׀

wə·‘at·tāh

But now therefore

אַל־

’al-

not

､ תֵּעָ֣צְב֗וּ

tê·‘ā·ṣə·ḇū,

do be grieved ､

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

or

יִ֙חַר֙

yi·ḥar

､ בְּעֵ֣ינֵיכֶ֔ם

bə·‘ê·nê·ḵem,

with yourselves ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

מְכַרְתֶּ֥ם

mə·ḵar·tem

אֹתִ֖י

’ō·ṯî

me

､ הֵ֑נָּה

hên·nāh;

here ､

כִּ֣י

kî

. לְמִֽחְיָ֔ה

lə·miḥ·yāh,

to preserve life .

שְׁלָחַ֥נִי

šə·lā·ḥa·nî

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

. לִפְנֵיכֶֽם׃

lip̄·nê·ḵem.

כִּי־

kî-

זֶ֛ה

zeh

שְׁנָתַ֥יִם

šə·nā·ṯa·yim

הָרָעָ֖ב

hā·rā·‘āḇ

the famine [is]

בְּקֶ֣רֶב

bə·qe·reḇ

in

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the land –

וְעוֹד֙

wə·‘ō·wḏ

and [there are] still

חָמֵ֣שׁ

ḥā·mêš

､ שָׁנִ֔ים

šā·nîm,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

אֵין־

’ên-

no

חָרִ֖ישׁ

ḥā·rîš

. וְקָצִּֽיר׃‪‬

wə·qāṣ·ṣîr

or harvesting .

וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֤נִי

way·yiš·lā·ḥê·nî

And sent me

אֱלֹהִים֙

’ĕ·lō·hîm

לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם

lip̄·nê·ḵem,

לָשׂ֥וּם

lā·śūm

לָכֶ֛ם

lā·ḵem

שְׁאֵרִ֖ית

šə·’ê·rîṯ

､ בָּאָ֑רֶץ

bā·’ā·reṣ;

in the earth ､

וּלְהַחֲי֣וֹת

ū·lə·ha·ḥă·yō·wṯ

and to save lives

לָכֶ֔ם

lā·ḵem,

לִפְלֵיטָ֖ה

lip̄·lê·ṭāh

by a deliverance

. גְּדֹלָֽה׃

gə·ḏō·lāh.

וְעַתָּ֗ה

wə·‘at·tāh,

So now

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

אַתֶּ֞ם

’at·tem

שְׁלַחְתֶּ֤ם

šə·laḥ·tem

אֹתִי֙

’ō·ṯî

me

､ הֵ֔נָּה

hên·nāh,

here ､

כִּ֖י

kî

but

– הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm;

God –

וַיְשִׂימֵ֨נִֽי

way·śî·mê·nî

and He has made me

לְאָ֜ב

lə·’āḇ

､ לְפַרְעֹ֗ה

lə·p̄ar·‘ōh,

to Pharaoh ､

וּלְאָדוֹן֙

ū·lə·’ā·ḏō·wn

and lord

לְכָל־

lə·ḵāl

of all

､ בֵּית֔וֹ

bê·ṯōw,

וּמֹשֵׁ֖ל

ū·mō·šêl

and a ruler

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

אֶ֥רֶץ

’e·reṣ

the land

. מִצְרָֽיִם׃

miṣ·rā·yim.

of Egypt .

Joseph Sends for his Father

מַהֲרוּ֮

ma·hă·rū

וַעֲל֣וּ

wa·‘ă·lū

and go up

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ אָבִי֒

’ā·ḇî

my father ､

וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֣ם

wa·’ă·mar·tem

and say

､ אֵלָ֗יו

’ê·lāw,

to him ､

כֹּ֤ה

kōh

אָמַר֙

’ā·mar

בִּנְךָ֣

bin·ḵā

､ יוֹסֵ֔ף

yō·w·sêp̄,

שָׂמַ֧נִי

śā·ma·nî

אֱלֹהִ֛ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

לְאָד֖וֹן

lə·’ā·ḏō·wn

לְכָל־

lə·ḵāl

of all

– מִצְרָ֑יִם

miṣ·rā·yim;

רְדָ֥ה

rə·ḏāh

אֵלַ֖י

’ê·lay

to me

– אַֽל־

’al-

not –

. תַּעֲמֹֽד׃

ta·‘ă·mōḏ.

do tarry .

וְיָשַׁבְתָּ֣

wə·yā·šaḇ·tā

And You shall dwell

בְאֶֽרֶץ־

ḇə·’e·reṣ-

in the land

､ גֹּ֗שֶׁן

gō·šen,

of Goshen ､

וְהָיִ֤יתָ

wə·hā·yî·ṯā

and you shall be

קָרוֹב֙

qā·rō·wḇ

､ אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me ､

אַתָּ֕ה

’at·tāh

､ וּבָנֶ֖יךָ

ū·ḇā·ne·ḵā

and your children ､

וּבְנֵ֣י

ū·ḇə·nê

､ בָנֶ֑יךָ

ḇā·ne·ḵā;

of your children ､

､ וְצֹאנְךָ֥

wə·ṣō·nə·ḵā

and your flocks ､

､ וּבְקָרְךָ֖

ū·ḇə·qā·rə·ḵā

and your herds ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

that [is]

. לָֽךְ׃

lāḵ.

וְכִלְכַּלְתִּ֤י

wə·ḵil·kal·tî

And I will provide

אֹֽתְךָ֙

’ō·ṯə·ḵā

､ שָׁ֔ם

šām,

כִּי־

kî-

ע֛וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

חָמֵ֥שׁ

ḥā·mêš

[there are] five

שָׁנִ֖ים

šā·nîm

– רָעָ֑ב

rā·‘āḇ;

of famine –

פֶּן־

pen-

תִּוָּרֵ֛שׁ

tiw·wā·rêš

come to poverty

､ אַתָּ֥ה

’at·tāh

you ､

､ וּבֵֽיתְךָ֖

ū·ḇê·ṯə·ḵā

and your household ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

that [is]

. לָֽךְ׃

lāḵ.

､ וְהִנֵּ֤ה

wə·hin·nêh

And behold ､

עֵֽינֵיכֶם֙

‘ê·nê·ḵem

､ רֹא֔וֹת

rō·’ō·wṯ,

see ､

וְעֵינֵ֖י

wə·‘ê·nê

and the eyes

אָחִ֣י

’ā·ḥî

､ בִנְיָמִ֑ין

ḇin·yā·mîn;

כִּי־

kî-

פִ֖י

p̄î

[it is] my mouth

הַֽמְדַבֵּ֥ר

ham·ḏab·bêr

. אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃

’ă·lê·ḵem.

וְהִגַּדְתֶּ֣ם

wə·hig·gaḏ·tem

So you shall tell

לְאָבִ֗י

lə·’ā·ḇî,

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

כְּבוֹדִי֙

kə·ḇō·w·ḏî

､ בְּמִצְרַ֔יִם

bə·miṣ·ra·yim,

in Egypt ､

וְאֵ֖ת

wə·’êṯ

and

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

– רְאִיתֶ֑ם

rə·’î·ṯem;

you have seen –

וּמִֽהַרְתֶּ֛ם

ū·mi·har·tem

and you shall hurry

וְהוֹרַדְתֶּ֥ם

wə·hō·w·raḏ·tem

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אָבִ֖י

’ā·ḇî

. הֵֽנָּה׃

hên·nāh.

וַיִּפֹּ֛ל

way·yip·pōl

And he fell

עַל־

‘al-

on

צַוְּארֵ֥י

ṣaw·wə·rê

the neck

בִנְיָמִֽן־

ḇin·yā·min-

אָחִ֖יו

’ā·ḥîw

– וַיֵּ֑בְךְּ

way·yê·ḇək;

and wept –

וּבִנְיָמִ֔ן

ū·ḇin·yā·min,

בָּכָ֖ה

bā·ḵāh

עַל־

‘al-

on

. צַוָּארָֽיו׃

ṣaw·wā·rāw.

וַיְנַשֵּׁ֥ק

way·naš·šêq

Moreover he kissed

לְכָל־

lə·ḵāl

､ אֶחָ֖יו

’e·ḥāw

his brothers ､

וַיֵּ֣בְךְּ

way·yê·ḇək

and wept

. עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם

‘ă·lê·hem;

וְאַ֣חֲרֵי

wə·’a·ḥă·rê

And

כֵ֔ן

ḵên,

דִּבְּר֥וּ

dib·bə·rū

אֶחָ֖יו

’e·ḥāw

. אִתּֽוֹ׃

’it·tōw.

with him .

Pharaoh Invites Jacob to Egypt

וְהַקֹּ֣ל

wə·haq·qōl

And the report

נִשְׁמַ֗ע

niš·ma‘,

בֵּ֤ית

bêṯ

､ פַּרְעֹה֙

par·‘ōh

of Pharaoh ､

､ לֵאמֹ֔ר

lê·mōr,

בָּ֖אוּ

bā·’ū

אֲחֵ֣י

’ă·ḥê

. יוֹסֵ֑ף

yō·w·sêp̄;

וַיִּיטַב֙

way·yî·ṭaḇ

And it pleased

בְּעֵינֵ֣י

bə·‘ê·nê

the eye

פַרְעֹ֔ה

p̄ar·‘ōh,

וּבְעֵינֵ֖י

ū·ḇə·‘ê·nê

and the eyes

. עֲבָדָֽיו׃

‘ă·ḇā·ḏāw.

of his servants .

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

פַּרְעֹה֙

par·‘ōh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ יוֹסֵ֔ף

yō·w·sêp̄,

אֱמֹ֥ר

’ĕ·mōr

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ אַחֶ֖יךָ

’a·ḥe·ḵā

your brothers ､

זֹ֣את

zōṯ

: עֲשׂ֑וּ

‘ă·śū;

do :

טַֽעֲנוּ֙

ṭa·‘ă·nū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ בְּעִ֣ירְכֶ֔ם

bə·‘î·rə·ḵem,

your animals ､

､ וּלְכוּ־

ū·lə·ḵū-

and depart ､

בֹ֖אוּ

ḇō·’ū

Go

אַ֥רְצָה

’ar·ṣāh

to the land

､ כְּנָֽעַן׃

kə·nā·‘an.

of Canaan ､

וּקְח֧וּ

ū·qə·ḥū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֲבִיכֶ֛ם

’ă·ḇî·ḵem

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ בָּתֵּיכֶ֖ם

bāt·tê·ḵem

your households ､

וּבֹ֣אוּ

ū·ḇō·’ū

and come

､ אֵלָ֑י

’ê·lāy;

to me ､

וְאֶתְּנָ֣ה

wə·’et·tə·nāh

and I will give

לָכֶ֗ם

lā·ḵem,

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

טוּב֙

ṭūḇ

the best

אֶ֣רֶץ

’e·reṣ

of the land

､ מִצְרַ֔יִם

miṣ·ra·yim,

of Egypt ､

וְאִכְל֖וּ

wə·’iḵ·lū

and you will eat

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

חֵ֥לֶב

ḥê·leḇ

the fat

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

of the land .

וְאַתָּ֥ה

wə·’at·tāh

And you

､ צֻוֵּ֖יתָה

ṣuw·wê·ṯāh

are commanded ､

זֹ֣את

zōṯ

: עֲשׂ֑וּ

‘ă·śū;

do :

קְחוּ־

qə·ḥū-

לָכֶם֩

lā·ḵem

to you

מֵאֶ֨רֶץ

mê·’e·reṣ

out of the land

מִצְרַ֜יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

עֲגָל֗וֹת

‘ă·ḡā·lō·wṯ,

､ לְטַפְּכֶם֙

lə·ṭap·pə·ḵem

for your little ones ､

､ וְלִנְשֵׁיכֶ֔ם

wə·lin·šê·ḵem,

and your wives ､

וּנְשָׂאתֶ֥ם

ū·nə·śā·ṯem

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ אֲבִיכֶ֖ם

’ă·ḇî·ḵem

your father ､

. וּבָאתֶֽם׃

ū·ḇā·ṯem.

and come .

וְעֵ֣ינְכֶ֔ם

wə·‘ê·nə·ḵem,

And the eye

אַל־

’al-

not

תָּחֹ֖ס

tā·ḥōs

עַל־

‘al-

– כְּלֵיכֶ֑ם

kə·lê·ḵem;

כִּי־

kî-

ט֛וּב

ṭūḇ

the best

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

אֶ֥רֶץ

’e·reṣ

the land

מִצְרַ֖יִם

miṣ·ra·yim

לָכֶ֥ם

lā·ḵem

. הֽוּא׃

hū.

is .

וַיַּֽעֲשׂוּ־

way·ya·‘ă·śū-

And did

כֵן֙

ḵên

so

בְּנֵ֣י

bə·nê

the sons

– יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

of Israel –

וַיִּתֵּ֨ן

way·yit·tên

and gave

לָהֶ֥ם

lā·hem

יוֹסֵ֛ף

yō·w·sêp̄

､ עֲגָל֖וֹת

‘ă·ḡā·lō·wṯ

עַל־

‘al-

פִּ֣י

pî

､ פַרְעֹ֑ה

p̄ar·‘ōh;

of Pharaoh ､

וַיִּתֵּ֥ן

way·yit·tên

and he gave

לָהֶ֛ם

lā·hem

צֵדָ֖ה

ṣê·ḏāh

. לַדָּֽרֶךְ׃

lad·dā·reḵ.

for the journey .

לְכֻלָּ֥ם

lə·ḵul·lām

To all of them

נָתַ֛ן

nā·ṯan

לָאִ֖ישׁ

lā·’îš

חֲלִפ֣וֹת

ḥă·li·p̄ō·wṯ

– שְׂמָלֹ֑ת

śə·mā·lōṯ;

of garments –

וּלְבִנְיָמִ֤ן

ū·lə·ḇin·yā·min

but to Benjamin

נָתַן֙

nā·ṯan

שְׁלֹ֣שׁ

šə·lōš

מֵא֣וֹת

mê·’ō·wṯ

hundred [pieces]

､ כֶּ֔סֶף

ke·sep̄,

of silver ､

וְחָמֵ֖שׁ

wə·ḥā·mêš

and five

חֲלִפֹ֥ת

ḥă·li·p̄ōṯ

. שְׂמָלֹֽת׃

śə·mā·lōṯ.

וּלְאָבִ֞יו

ū·lə·’ā·ḇîw

And to his father

שָׁלַ֤ח

šā·laḥ

כְּזֹאת֙

kə·zōṯ

עֲשָׂרָ֣ה

‘ă·śā·rāh

חֲמֹרִ֔ים

ḥă·mō·rîm,

נֹשְׂאִ֖ים

nō·śə·’îm

מִטּ֣וּב

miṭ·ṭūḇ

with the good things

､ מִצְרָ֑יִם

miṣ·rā·yim;

of Egypt ､

וְעֶ֣שֶׂר

wə·‘e·śer

and ten

אֲתֹנֹ֡ת

’ă·ṯō·nōṯ

נֹֽ֠שְׂאֹת

nō·śə·’ōṯ

בָּ֣ר

bār

with grain

וָלֶ֧חֶם

wā·le·ḥem

וּמָז֛וֹן

ū·mā·zō·wn

and food

､ לְאָבִ֖יו

lə·’ā·ḇîw

for his father ､

. לַדָּֽרֶךְ׃

lad·dā·reḵ.

for the journey .

וַיְשַׁלַּ֥ח

way·šal·laḥ

So he sent away

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

אֶחָ֖יו

’e·ḥāw

､ וַיֵּלֵ֑כוּ

way·yê·lê·ḵū;

and they departed ､

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and he said

אֲלֵהֶ֔ם

’ă·lê·hem,

אַֽל־

’al-

not

תִּרְגְּז֖וּ

tir·gə·zū

. בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃

bad·dā·reḵ.

along the way .

The Revival of Jacob

וַֽיַּעֲל֖וּ

way·ya·‘ă·lū

And they went up

､ מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם

mim·miṣ·rā·yim;

out of Egypt ､

וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

and came

אֶ֣רֶץ

’e·reṣ

to the land

､ כְּנַ֔עַן

kə·na·‘an,

of Canaan ､

אֶֽל־

’el-

to

יַעֲקֹ֖ב

ya·‘ă·qōḇ

､ אֲבִיהֶֽם׃

’ă·ḇî·hem.

their father ､

וַיַּגִּ֨דוּ

way·yag·gi·ḏū

ל֜וֹ

lōw

､ לֵאמֹ֗ר

lê·mōr,

ע֚וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

יוֹסֵ֣ף

yō·w·sêp̄

! חַ֔י

ḥay,

וְכִֽי־

wə·ḵî-

and

ה֥וּא

hū

he [is]

מֹשֵׁ֖ל

mō·šêl

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

אֶ֣רֶץ

’e·reṣ

the land

. מִצְרָ֑יִם

miṣ·rā·yim;

of Egypt .

וַיָּ֣פָג

way·yā·p̄āḡ

And stood still

לִבּ֔וֹ

lib·bōw,

. כִּ֥י

kî

לֹא־

lō-

not

הֶאֱמִ֖ין

he·’ĕ·mîn

. לָהֶֽם׃

lā·hem.

וַיְדַבְּר֣וּ

way·ḏab·bə·rū

But when they told

אֵלָ֗יו

’ê·lāw,

אֵ֣ת

’êṯ

-

כָּל־

kāl-

דִּבְרֵ֤י

diḇ·rê

､ יוֹסֵף֙

yō·w·sêp̄

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

דִּבֶּ֣ר

dib·ber

､ אֲלֵהֶ֔ם

’ă·lê·hem,

to them ､

וַיַּרְא֙

way·yar

and when he saw

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הָ֣עֲגָל֔וֹת

hā·‘ă·ḡā·lō·wṯ,

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

שָׁלַ֥ח

šā·laḥ

יוֹסֵ֖ף

yō·w·sêp̄

לָשֵׂ֣את

lā·śêṯ

､ אֹת֑וֹ

’ō·ṯōw;

him ､

. וַתְּחִ֕י

wat·tə·ḥî

ר֖וּחַ

rū·aḥ

יַעֲקֹ֥ב

ya·‘ă·qōḇ

. אֲבִיהֶֽם׃

’ă·ḇî·hem.

וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙

way·yō·mer

And said

､ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

yiś·rā·’êl,

רַ֛ב

raḇ

[it is] enough

! עוֹד־

‘ō·wḏ-

יוֹסֵ֥ף

yō·w·sêp̄

בְּנִ֖י

bə·nî

my son

. חָ֑י

ḥāy;

[is] alive .

אֵֽלְכָ֥ה

’ê·lə·ḵāh

I will go

וְאֶרְאֶ֖נּוּ

wə·’er·’en·nū

בְּטֶ֥רֶם

bə·ṭe·rem

. אָמֽוּת׃

’ā·mūṯ.

I die .
