And it came to pass ､

כִּֽי־

הֵחֵ֣ל

הָֽאָדָ֔ם

hā·’ā·ḏām,

לָרֹ֖ב

lā·rōḇ

עַל־

‘al-

on

פְּנֵ֣י

pə·nê

the face

､ הָֽאֲדָמָ֑ה

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh;

of the earth ､

וּבָנ֖וֹת

ū·ḇā·nō·wṯ

יֻלְּד֥וּ

yul·lə·ḏū

. לָהֶֽם׃

lā·hem.

to them .

וַיִּרְא֤וּ

way·yir·’ū

בְנֵי־

ḇə·nê-

the sons

הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

בְּנ֣וֹת

bə·nō·wṯ

､ הָֽאָדָ֔ם

hā·’ā·ḏām,

of men ､

כִּ֥י

kî

– טֹבֹ֖ת

ṭō·ḇōṯ

[were] beautiful –

הֵ֑נָּה

hên·nāh;

וַיִּקְח֤וּ

way·yiq·ḥū

לָהֶם֙

lā·hem

､ נָשִׁ֔ים

nā·šîm,

מִכֹּ֖ל

mik·kōl

of all

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

. בָּחָֽרוּ׃

bā·ḥā·rū.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

､ יְהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

יָד֨וֹן

yā·ḏō·wn

רוּחִ֤י

rū·ḥî

בָֽאָדָם֙

ḇā·’ā·ḏām

with man

לְעֹלָ֔ם

lə·‘ō·lām,

､ בְּשַׁגַּ֖ם

bə·šag·gam

ה֣וּא

hū

he [is]

､ בָשָׂ֑ר

ḇā·śār;

וְהָי֣וּ

wə·hā·yū

and yet shall be

יָמָ֔יו

yā·māw,

מֵאָ֥ה

mê·’āh

וְעֶשְׂרִ֖ים

wə·‘eś·rîm

. שָׁנָֽה׃

šā·nāh.

הַנְּפִלִ֞ים

han·nə·p̄i·lîm

הָי֣וּ

hā·yū

בָאָרֶץ֮

ḇā·’ā·reṣ

on the earth

בַּיָּמִ֣ים

bay·yā·mîm

､ הָהֵם֒

hā·hêm

וְגַ֣ם

wə·ḡam

and also

אַֽחֲרֵי־

’a·ḥă·rê-

､ כֵ֗ן

ḵên,

that ､

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

יָבֹ֜אוּ

yā·ḇō·’ū

בְּנֵ֤י

bə·nê

the sons

הָֽאֱלֹהִים֙

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

אֶל־

’el-

to

בְּנ֣וֹת

bə·nō·wṯ

､ הָֽאָדָ֔ם

hā·’ā·ḏām,

of men ､

וְיָלְד֖וּ

wə·yā·lə·ḏū

and they bore [children]

לָהֶ֑ם

lā·hem;

､ הֵ֧מָּה

hêm·māh

Those [were] ､

הַגִּבֹּרִ֛ים

hag·gib·bō·rîm

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

､ מֵעוֹלָ֖ם

mê·‘ō·w·lām

of old ､

אַנְשֵׁ֥י

’an·šê

. הַשֵּֽׁם׃

haš·šêm.

And saw

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

כִּ֥י

רַבָּ֛ה

rab·bāh

רָעַ֥ת

rā·‘aṯ

הָאָדָ֖ם

hā·’ā·ḏām

of man

､ בָּאָ֑רֶץ

bā·’ā·reṣ;

in the earth ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and [that] every

יֵ֙צֶר֙

yê·ṣer

מַחְשְׁבֹ֣ת

maḥ·šə·ḇōṯ

of the thoughts

לִבּ֔וֹ

lib·bōw,

רַ֥ק

raq

[was] altogether

רַ֖ע

ra‘

כָּל־

kāl-

. הַיּֽוֹם׃

hay·yō·wm.

the time .

וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם

way·yin·nā·ḥem

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

כִּֽי־

kî-

עָשָׂ֥ה

‘ā·śāh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הָֽאָדָ֖ם

hā·’ā·ḏām

､ בָּאָ֑רֶץ

bā·’ā·reṣ;

on the earth ､

וַיִּתְעַצֵּ֖ב

way·yiṯ·‘aṣ·ṣêḇ

and He was grieved

אֶל־

’el-

in

. לִבּֽוֹ׃

lib·bōw.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

､ יְהוָ֗ה

Yah·weh

אֶמְחֶ֨ה

’em·ḥeh

I will destroy

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הָאָדָ֤ם

hā·’ā·ḏām

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ בָּרָ֙אתִי֙

bā·rā·ṯî

I have created ､

מֵעַל֙

mê·‘al

פְּנֵ֣י

pə·nê

the face

– הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh,

of the earth –

מֵֽאָדָם֙

mê·’ā·ḏām

עַד־

‘aḏ-

and

､ בְּהֵמָ֔ה

bə·hê·māh,

עַד־

‘aḏ-

to

､ רֶ֖מֶשׂ

re·meś

creeping thing ､

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

and

ע֣וֹף

‘ō·wp̄

– הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם

haš·šā·mā·yim;

of the air –

כִּ֥י

kî

נִחַ֖מְתִּי

ni·ḥam·tî

I am sorry

כִּ֥י

kî

. עֲשִׂיתִֽם׃

‘ă·śî·ṯim.

I have made them .

Noah's Favor with God

וְנֹ֕חַ

But Noah

מָ֥צָא

mā·ṣā

חֵ֖ן

בְּעֵינֵ֥י

in the eyes

. יְהוָֽה׃

הָיָ֖ה

. בְּדֹֽרֹתָ֑יו

bə·ḏō·rō·ṯāw;

in his generations .

הִֽתְהַלֶּךְ־

hiṯ·hal·leḵ-

. נֹֽחַ׃

nō·aḥ.

וַיּ֥וֹלֶד

נֹ֖חַ

nō·aḥ

שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה

šə·lō·šāh

､ בָנִ֑ים

ḇā·nîm;

sons ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ שֵׁ֖ם

šêm

Shem ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ חָ֥ם

ḥām

Ham ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

. יָֽפֶת׃

yā·p̄eṯ.

וַתִּשָּׁחֵ֥ת

wat·tiš·šā·ḥêṯ

And was corrupt

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

לִפְנֵ֣י

lip̄·nê

､ הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm;

God ､

וַתִּמָּלֵ֥א

wat·tim·mā·lê

and was filled with

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

. חָמָֽס׃

ḥā·mās.

וַיַּ֧רְא

way·yar

אֱלֹהִ֛ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

upon the earth ､

､ וְהִנֵּ֣ה

wə·hin·nêh

and indeed ､

– נִשְׁחָ֑תָה

niš·ḥā·ṯāh;

it was corrupt –

כִּֽי־

kî-

הִשְׁחִ֧ית

hiš·ḥîṯ

כָּל־

kāl-

בָּשָׂ֛ר

bā·śār

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

דַּרְכּ֖וֹ

dar·kōw

עַל־

‘al-

on

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

Noah Builds the Ark

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

אֱלֹהִ֜ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

､ לְנֹ֗חַ

lə·nō·aḥ,

to Noah ､

קֵ֤ץ

qêṣ

the end

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

בָּשָׂר֙

bā·śār

בָּ֣א

bā

､ לְפָנַ֔י

lə·p̄ā·nay,

before Me ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

מָלְאָ֥ה

mā·lə·’āh

הָאָ֛רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

חָמָ֖ס

ḥā·mās

– מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם

mip·pə·nê·hem;

through them –

וְהִנְנִ֥י

wə·hin·nî

מַשְׁחִיתָ֖ם

maš·ḥî·ṯām

I will destroy them

אֶת־

’eṯ-

with

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

עֲשֵׂ֤ה

‘ă·śêh

לְךָ֙

lə·ḵā

תֵּבַ֣ת

tê·ḇaṯ

an ark

עֲצֵי־

‘ă·ṣê-

– גֹ֔פֶר

ḡō·p̄er,

קִנִּ֖ים

qin·nîm

תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה

ta·‘ă·śeh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

in

､ הַתֵּבָ֑ה

hat·tê·ḇāh;

the ark ､

וְכָֽפַרְתָּ֥

wə·ḵā·p̄ar·tā

אֹתָ֛הּ

’ō·ṯāh

it

מִבַּ֥יִת

mib·ba·yiṯ

וּמִח֖וּץ

ū·mi·ḥūṣ

. בַּכֹּֽפֶר׃

bak·kō·p̄er.

with pitch .

וְזֶ֕ה

wə·zeh

And this [is]

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֖ה

ta·‘ă·śeh

: אֹתָ֑הּ

’ō·ṯāh;

it :

שְׁלֹ֧שׁ

šə·lōš

מֵא֣וֹת

mê·’ō·wṯ

אַמָּ֗ה

’am·māh,

cubits [shall be]

אֹ֚רֶךְ

’ō·reḵ

､ הַתֵּבָ֔ה

hat·tê·ḇāh,

of the ark ､

חֲמִשִּׁ֤ים

ḥă·miš·šîm

אַמָּה֙

’am·māh

､ רָחְבָּ֔הּ

rā·ḥə·bāh,

the width ､

וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים

ū·šə·lō·šîm

אַמָּ֖ה

’am·māh

. קוֹמָתָֽהּ׃

qō·w·mā·ṯāh.

the height .

צֹ֣הַר ׀

ṣō·har

תַּֽעֲשֶׂ֣ה

ta·‘ă·śeh

､ לַתֵּבָ֗ה

lat·tê·ḇāh,

for the ark ､

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and to

אַמָּה֙

’am·māh

תְּכַלֶ֣נָּה‪‬

tə·ḵa·len·nāh

shall you finish it

､ מִלְמַ֔עְלָה

mil·ma‘·lāh,

וּפֶ֥תַח

ū·p̄e·ṯaḥ

and the door

הַתֵּבָ֖ה

hat·tê·ḇāh

of the ark

בְּצִדָּ֣הּ

bə·ṣid·dāh

תָּשִׂ֑ים

tā·śîm;

､ תַּחְתִּיִּ֛ם

taḥ·tî·yim

[with] lower ､

שְׁנִיִּ֥ם

šə·nî·yim

וּשְׁלִשִׁ֖ים

ū·šə·li·šîm

and third [decks]

. תַּֽעֲשֶֽׂהָ׃

ta·‘ă·śe·hā.

you shall make it .

､ וַאֲנִ֗י

wa·’ă·nî,

And I ､

､ הִנְנִי֩

hin·nî

מֵבִ֨יא

mê·ḇî

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַמַּבּ֥וּל

ham·mab·būl

מַ֙יִם֙

ma·yim

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ הָאָ֔רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

the earth ､

לְשַׁחֵ֣ת

lə·ša·ḥêṯ

כָּל־

kāl-

בָּשָׂ֗ר

bā·śār,

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

בּוֹ֙

bōw

in it [is]

ר֣וּחַ

rū·aḥ

חַיִּ֔ים

ḥay·yîm,

מִתַּ֖חַת

mit·ta·ḥaṯ

– הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם

haš·šā·mā·yim;

כֹּ֥ל

kōl

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

that [is]

בָּאָ֖רֶץ

bā·’ā·reṣ

on the earth

. יִגְוָֽע׃

yiḡ·wā‘.

וַהֲקִמֹתִ֥י

wa·hă·qi·mō·ṯî

But I will establish

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

בְּרִיתִ֖י

bə·rî·ṯî

､ אִתָּ֑ךְ

’it·tāḵ;

with you ､

וּבָאתָ֙

ū·ḇā·ṯā

and you shall go

אֶל־

’el-

､ הַתֵּבָ֔ה

hat·tê·ḇāh,

the ark ､

אַתָּ֕ה

’at·tāh

､ וּבָנֶ֛יךָ

ū·ḇā·ne·ḵā

and your sons ､

､ וְאִשְׁתְּךָ֥

wə·’iš·tə·ḵā

and your wife ､

וּנְשֵֽׁי־

ū·nə·šê-

and the wives

､ בָנֶ֖יךָ

ḇā·ne·ḵā

of your sons ､

. אִתָּֽךְ׃

’it·tāḵ.

with you .

וּמִכָּל־

ū·mik·kāl-

And of every

הָ֠חַי

hā·ḥay

מִֽכָּל־

mik·kāl

of all

､ בָּשָׂ֞ר

bā·śār

שְׁנַ֧יִם

šə·na·yim

מִכֹּ֛ל

mik·kōl

of every [kind]

תָּבִ֥יא

tā·ḇî

shall you bring

אֶל־

’el-

､ הַתֵּבָ֖ה

hat·tê·ḇāh

the ark ､

לְהַחֲיֹ֣ת

lə·ha·ḥă·yōṯ

to keep [them] alive

､ אִתָּ֑ךְ

’it·tāḵ;

with you ､

זָכָ֥ר

zā·ḵār

וּנְקֵבָ֖ה

ū·nə·qê·ḇāh

. יִֽהְיֽוּ׃

yih·yū.

they shall be .

מֵהָע֣וֹף

mê·hā·‘ō·wp̄

Of the birds

､ לְמִינֵ֗הוּ

lə·mî·nê·hū,

after their kind ､

וּמִן־

ū·min-

and

הַבְּהֵמָה֙

hab·bə·hê·māh

､ לְמִינָ֔הּ

lə·mî·nāh,

after their kind ､

מִכֹּ֛ל

mik·kōl

רֶ֥מֶשׂ

re·meś

הָֽאֲדָמָ֖ה

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh

of the earth

､ לְמִינֵ֑הוּ

lə·mî·nê·hū;

after its kind ､

שְׁנַ֧יִם

šə·na·yim

מִכֹּ֛ל

mik·kōl

of every [kind]

יָבֹ֥אוּ

yā·ḇō·’ū

will come

אֵלֶ֖יךָ

’ê·le·ḵā

to you

. לְהַֽחֲיֽוֹת׃

lə·ha·ḥă·yō·wṯ.

to be kept alive .

וְאַתָּ֣ה

wə·’at·tāh

And you

קַח־

qaḥ-

לְךָ֗

lə·ḵā,

מִכָּל־

mik·kāl

of all

מַֽאֲכָל֙

ma·’ă·ḵāl

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ יֵֽאָכֵ֔ל

yê·’ā·ḵêl,

is eaten ､

וְאָסַפְתָּ֖

wə·’ā·sap̄·tā

and you shall gather [it]

אֵלֶ֑יךָ

’ê·le·ḵā;

וְהָיָ֥ה

wə·hā·yāh

and it shall be

לְךָ֛

lə·ḵā

וְלָהֶ֖ם

wə·lā·hem

. לְאָכְלָֽה׃

lə·’āḵ·lāh

וַיַּ֖עַשׂ

way·ya·‘aś

､ נֹ֑חַ

nō·aḥ;

Noah ､

כְּ֠כֹל

kə·ḵōl

according to all

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

צִוָּ֥ה

ṣiw·wāh

אֹת֛וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

､ אֱלֹהִ֖ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm

God ､

כֵּ֥ן

kên

so

. עָשָֽׂה׃

‘ā·śāh.
