וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

And said

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

､ לְנֹ֔חַ

lə·nō·aḥ,

to Noah ､

בֹּֽא־

bō-

אַתָּ֥ה

’at·tāh

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

בֵּיתְךָ֖

bê·ṯə·ḵā

אֶל־

’el-

– הַתֵּבָ֑ה

hat·tê·ḇāh;

the ark –

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֹתְךָ֥

’ō·ṯə·ḵā

רָאִ֛יתִי

rā·’î·ṯî

צַדִּ֥יק

ṣad·dîq

[are] righteous

לְפָנַ֖י

lə·p̄ā·nay

בַּדּ֥וֹר

bad·dō·wr

. הַזֶּֽה׃

haz·zeh.

מִכֹּ֣ל ׀

mik·kōl

הַבְּהֵמָ֣ה

hab·bə·hê·māh

הַטְּהוֹרָ֗ה

haṭ·ṭə·hō·w·rāh,

תִּֽקַּח־

tiq·qaḥ-

לְךָ֛

lə·ḵā

with you

שִׁבְעָ֥ה

šiḇ·‘āh

､ שִׁבְעָ֖ה

šiḇ·‘āh

אִ֣ישׁ

’îš

– וְאִשְׁתּ֑וֹ

wə·’iš·tōw;

and his female –

וּמִן־

ū·min-

and

הַבְּהֵמָ֡ה

hab·bə·hê·māh

אֲ֠שֶׁר

’ă·šer

לֹ֣א

lō

not

טְהֹרָ֥ה

ṭə·hō·rāh

､ הִ֛וא

hî

are ､

､ שְׁנַ֖יִם

šə·na·yim

two [each] ､

אִ֥ישׁ

’îš

. וְאִשְׁתּֽוֹ׃

wə·’iš·tōw.

and his female .

גַּ֣ם

gam

מֵע֧וֹף

mê·‘ō·wp̄

הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim

of the air

שִׁבְעָ֥ה

šiḇ·‘āh

､ שִׁבְעָ֖ה

šiḇ·‘āh

by seven ､

זָכָ֣ר

zā·ḵār

– וּנְקֵבָ֑ה

ū·nə·qê·ḇāh;

and female –

לְחַיּ֥וֹת

lə·ḥay·yō·wṯ

זֶ֖רַע

ze·ra‘

עַל־

‘al-

on

פְּנֵ֥י

pə·nê

the face

כָל־

ḵāl

of all

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

כִּי֩

kî

לְיָמִ֨ים

lə·yā·mîm

ע֜וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

､ שִׁבְעָ֗ה

šiḇ·‘āh,

אָֽנֹכִי֙

’ā·nō·ḵî

I

מַמְטִ֣יר

mam·ṭîr

will cause it to rain

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ הָאָ֔רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

the earth ､

אַרְבָּעִ֣ים

’ar·bā·‘îm

י֔וֹם

yō·wm,

וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים

wə·’ar·bā·‘îm

– לָ֑יְלָה

lā·yə·lāh;

וּמָחִ֗יתִי

ū·mā·ḥî·ṯî,

and I will destroy

אֶֽת־

’eṯ-

-

כָּל־

kāl-

הַיְקוּם֙

hay·qūm

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

עָשִׂ֔יתִי

‘ā·śî·ṯî,

מֵעַ֖ל

mê·‘al

פְּנֵ֥י

pə·nê

the face

. הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh.

of the earth .

וַיַּ֖עַשׂ

way·ya·‘aś

And did

נֹ֑חַ

nō·aḥ;

כְּכֹ֥ל

kə·ḵōl

according to all

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

צִוָּ֖הוּ

ṣiw·wā·hū

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

The Floodwaters Arrive

וְנֹ֕חַ

wə·nō·aḥ

And Noah

בֶּן־

ben-

שֵׁ֥שׁ

šêš

מֵא֖וֹת

mê·’ō·wṯ

שָׁנָ֑ה

šā·nāh;

וְהַמַּבּ֣וּל

wə·ham·mab·būl

הָיָ֔ה

hā·yāh,

מַ֖יִם

ma·yim

עַל־

‘al-

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

וַיָּ֣בֹא

way·yā·ḇō

､ נֹ֗חַ

nō·aḥ,

Noah ､

､ וּ֠בָנָיו

ū·ḇā·nāw

and his sons ､

､ וְאִשְׁתּ֧וֹ

wə·’iš·tōw

and his wife ､

וּנְשֵֽׁי־

ū·nə·šê-

and the wives

בָנָ֛יו

ḇā·nāw

､ אִתּ֖וֹ

’it·tōw

with him ､

אֶל־

’el-

､ הַתֵּבָ֑ה

hat·tê·ḇāh;

the ark ､

מִפְּנֵ֖י

mip·pə·nê

מֵ֥י

mê

of the waters

. הַמַּבּֽוּל׃

ham·mab·būl.

of the flood .

מִן־

Of

､ הַבְּהֵמָה֙

hab·bə·hê·māh

הַטְּהוֹרָ֔ה

haṭ·ṭə·hō·w·rāh,

וּמִן־

ū·min-

and

הַ֨בְּהֵמָ֔ה

hab·bə·hê·māh,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

אֵינֶ֖נָּה

’ê·nen·nāh

not

､ טְהֹרָ֑ה

ṭə·hō·rāh;

[are] clean ､

וּמִ֨ן־

ū·min-

and

､ הָע֔וֹף

hā·‘ō·wp̄,

of the birds ､

וְכֹ֥ל

wə·ḵōl

and of everything

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

רֹמֵ֖שׂ

rō·mêś

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh.

the earth ､

שְׁנַ֨יִם

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

And it came to pass

לְשִׁבְעַ֣ת

､ הַיָּמִ֑ים

hay·yā·mîm;

days ､

וּמֵ֣י

ū·mê

that the waters

הַמַּבּ֔וּל

ham·mab·būl,

of the flood

הָי֖וּ

hā·yū

עַל־

‘al-

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

בִּשְׁנַ֨ת

biš·naṯ

In the year

שֵׁשׁ־

שָׁנָה֙

לְחַיֵּי־

of the life

of the month

הַזֶּ֗ה

נִבְקְעוּ֙

מַעְיְנֹת֙

ma‘·yə·nōṯ

､ תְּה֣וֹם

of the deep ､

､ רַבָּ֔ה

rab·bāh,

וַאֲרֻבֹּ֥ת

wa·’ă·rub·bōṯ

and the windows

הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim

of the heavens

. נִפְתָּֽחוּ׃

nip̄·tā·ḥū.

וַֽיְהִ֥י

way·hî

And was

הַגֶּ֖שֶׁם

hag·ge·šem

the rain

עַל־

‘al-

הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

אַרְבָּעִ֣ים

’ar·bā·‘îm

י֔וֹם

yō·wm,

וְאַרְבָּעִ֖ים

wə·’ar·bā·‘îm

. לָֽיְלָה׃

lā·yə·lāh.

בְּעֶ֨צֶם

bə·‘e·ṣem

הַיּ֤וֹם

hay·yō·wm

הַזֶּה֙

haz·zeh

בָּ֣א

Noah ､

､ וְשֵׁם־

and Shem ､

and Ham ､

and Japheth ､

בְּנֵי־

the sons

､ נֹ֑חַ

of Noah ､

וְאֵ֣שֶׁת

and wife

and the three

the ark –

､ הֵ֜מָּה

they ､

､ לְמִינָ֗הּ

lə·mî·nāh,

after its kind ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

and all

הַבְּהֵמָה֙

､ לְמִינָ֔הּ

lə·mî·nāh,

after their kind ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

הָרֶ֛מֶשׂ

הָרֹמֵ֥שׂ

‘al-

on

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

､ לְמִינֵ֑הוּ

lə·mî·nê·hū;

after its kind ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

הָע֣וֹף

hā·‘ō·wp̄

､ לְמִינֵ֔הוּ

lə·mî·nê·hū,

after its kind ､

כֹּ֖ל

צִפּ֥וֹר

וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ

the ark ､

､ וְהַבָּאִ֗ים

And they entered ､

זָכָ֨ר

zā·ḵār

וּנְקֵבָ֤ה

ū·nə·qê·ḇāh

מִכָּל־

mik·kāl

of all

､ בָּשָׂר֙

bā·śār

בָּ֔אוּ

bā·’ū,

כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֛ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

צִוָּ֥ה

ṣiw·wāh

אֹת֖וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

､ אֱלֹהִ֑ים

’ĕ·lō·hîm;

God ､

וַיִּסְגֹּ֥ר

way·yis·gōr

and shut in

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. בַּֽעֲדֽוֹ׃

ba·‘ă·ḏōw.

The Duration of the Flood

וַֽיְהִ֧י

way·hî

And was

הַמַּבּ֛וּל

ham·mab·būl

אַרְבָּעִ֥ים

’ar·bā·‘îm

י֖וֹם

yō·wm

עַל־

‘al-

on

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the earth –

וַיִּרְבּ֣וּ

way·yir·bū

הַמַּ֗יִם

ham·ma·yim,

וַיִּשְׂאוּ֙

way·yiś·’ū

and lifted up

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַתֵּבָ֔ה

hat·tê·ḇāh,

the ark ､

וַתָּ֖רָם

wat·tā·rām

and it rose high

מֵעַ֥ל

mê·‘al

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

וַיִּגְבְּר֥וּ

way·yiḡ·bə·rū

､ הַמַּ֛יִם

ham·ma·yim

the waters ､

וַיִּרְבּ֥וּ

way·yir·bū

מְאֹ֖ד

mə·’ōḏ

עַל־

‘al-

on

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the earth –

וַתֵּ֥לֶךְ

wat·tê·leḵ

and moved about

הַתֵּבָ֖ה

hat·tê·ḇāh

the ark

עַל־

‘al-

on

פְּנֵ֥י

pə·nê

. הַמָּֽיִם׃

ham·mā·yim.

of the waters .

וְהַמַּ֗יִם

wə·ham·ma·yim,

And the waters

גָּֽבְר֛וּ

gā·ḇə·rū

מְאֹ֥ד

mə·’ōḏ

מְאֹ֖ד

mə·’ōḏ

עַל־

‘al-

on

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the earth –

וַיְכֻסּ֗וּ

way·ḵus·sū,

and were covered

כָּל־

kāl-

הֶֽהָרִים֙

he·hā·rîm

הַגְּבֹהִ֔ים

hag·gə·ḇō·hîm,

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

תַּ֖חַת

ta·ḥaṯ

כָּל־

kāl-

. הַשָּׁמָֽיִם׃

haš·šā·mā·yim.

the heaven .

חֲמֵ֨שׁ

ḥă·mêš

עֶשְׂרֵ֤ה

‘eś·rêh

[and] ten

אַמָּה֙

’am·māh

מִלְמַ֔עְלָה

mil·ma‘·lāh,

גָּבְר֖וּ

gā·ḇə·rū

､ הַמָּ֑יִם

ham·mā·yim;

the waters ､

וַיְכֻסּ֖וּ

way·ḵus·sū

and were covered

. הֶהָרִֽים׃

he·hā·rîm.

the mountains .

וַיִּגְוַ֞ע

way·yiḡ·wa‘

And died

כָּל־

kāl-

בָּשָׂ֣ר ׀

bā·śār

הָרֹמֵ֣שׂ

hā·rō·mêś

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ הָאָ֗רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

the earth ､

､ בָּע֤וֹף

bā·‘ō·wp̄

､ וּבַבְּהֵמָה֙

ū·ḇab·bə·hê·māh

and livestock ､

､ וּבַ֣חַיָּ֔ה

ū·ḇa·ḥay·yāh,

and beasts ､

וּבְכָל־

ū·ḇə·ḵāl

הַשֶּׁ֖רֶץ

haš·še·reṣ

הַשֹּׁרֵ֣ץ

haš·šō·rêṣ

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the earth ､

וְכֹ֖ל

wə·ḵōl

. הָאָדָֽם׃

hā·’ā·ḏām.

כֹּ֡ל

kōl

אֲשֶׁר֩

’ă·šer

נִשְׁמַת־

niš·maṯ-

ר֨וּחַ

rū·aḥ

of the spirit

חַיִּ֜ים

ḥay·yîm

､ בְּאַפָּ֗יו

bə·’ap·pāw,

in its nostrils ､

מִכֹּ֛ל

mik·kōl

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

בֶּחָֽרָבָ֖ה

be·ḥā·rā·ḇāh

on the dry [land]

. מֵֽתוּ׃

mê·ṯū.

וַיִּ֜מַח

way·yi·maḥ

So He destroyed

הַיְק֣וּם ׀

אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀

פְּנֵ֣י

the face

､ הָֽאֲדָמָ֗ה

of the ground ､

､ מֵאָדָ֤ם

mê·’ā·ḏām

עַד־

‘aḏ-

and

､ בְּהֵמָה֙

bə·hê·māh

עַד־

‘aḏ-

and

､ רֶ֙מֶשׂ֙

re·meś

creeping thing ､

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

to

ע֣וֹף

‘ō·wp̄

the bird

– הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim,

of the air –

וַיִּמָּח֖וּ

way·yim·mā·ḥū

and they were destroyed

מִן־

min-

– הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

the earth –

וַיִשָּׁ֧אֶר‪‬

wa·yiš·šā·’er

אַךְ־

’aḵ-

נֹ֛חַ

nō·aḥ

וַֽאֲשֶׁ֥ר

wa·’ă·šer

אִתּ֖וֹ

’it·tōw

with him

. בַּתֵּבָֽה׃

bat·tê·ḇāh.

in the ark .

וַיִּגְבְּר֥וּ

way·yiḡ·bə·rū

הַמַּ֖יִם

ham·ma·yim

עַל־

‘al-

on

הָאָ֑רֶץ

חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים
