God's Judgment on the Earth

､ הִנֵּ֧ה

hin·nêh

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

בּוֹקֵ֥ק

bō·w·qêq

､ הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

the earth ､

､ וּבֽוֹלְקָ֑הּ

ū·ḇō·wl·qāh;

and makes it waste ､

וְעִוָּ֣ה

wə·‘iw·wāh

､ פָנֶ֔יהָ

p̄ā·ne·hā,

its surface ､

וְהֵפִ֖יץ

wə·hê·p̄îṣ

and scatters abroad

. יֹשְׁבֶֽיהָ׃

yō·šə·ḇe·hā.

its inhabitants .

､ וְהָיָ֤ה

wə·hā·yāh

And it shall be ､

､ כָעָם֙

ḵā·‘ām

as with the people ､

– כַּכֹּהֵ֔ן

kak·kō·hên,

so with the priest –

､ כַּעֶ֙בֶד֙

ka·‘e·ḇeḏ

as with the servant ､

– כַּֽאדֹנָ֔יו

ka·ḏō·nāw,

so with his master –

､ כַּשִּׁפְחָ֖ה

kaš·šip̄·ḥāh

as with the maidservant ､

– כַּגְּבִרְתָּ֑הּ

kag·gə·ḇir·tāh;

so with her mistress –

､ כַּקּוֹנֶה֙

kaq·qō·w·neh

as with the buyer ､

– כַּמּוֹכֵ֔ר

kam·mō·w·ḵêr,

so with the seller –

､ כַּמַּלְוֶה֙

kam·mal·weh

as with the lender ､

– כַּלֹּוֶ֔ה

kal·lō·weh,

so with the borrower –

､ כַּנֹּשֶׁ֕ה

kan·nō·šeh

as with the creditor ､

כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר

ka·’ă·šer

so with

נֹשֶׁ֥א

nō·še

. בֽוֹ׃

ḇōw.

in .

הִבּ֧וֹק ׀

hib·bō·wq

､ תִּבּ֛וֹק

tib·bō·wq

shall be emptied ､

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

the land

וְהִבּ֣וֹז ׀

wə·hib·bō·wz

､ תִּבּ֑וֹז

tib·bō·wz;

כִּ֣י

kî

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

דִּבֶּ֖ר

dib·ber

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַדָּבָ֥ר

had·dā·ḇār

. הַזֶּֽה׃

haz·zeh.

אָבְלָ֤ה

’ā·ḇə·lāh

､ נָֽבְלָה֙

nā·ḇə·lāh

[and] fades away ､

הָאָ֔רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

אֻמְלְלָ֥ה

’um·lə·lāh

､ נָבְלָ֖ה

nā·ḇə·lāh

[and] fades away ､

תֵּבֵ֑ל

tê·ḇêl;

. אֻמְלָ֖לוּ

’um·lā·lū

מְר֥וֹם

mə·rō·wm

עַם־

‘am-

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

of the earth .

וְהָאָ֥רֶץ

wə·hā·’ā·reṣ

And the earth

חָנְפָ֖ה

ḥā·nə·p̄āh

תַּ֣חַת

ta·ḥaṯ

יֹשְׁבֶ֑יהָ

yō·šə·ḇe·hā;

its inhabitants

כִּֽי־

kî-

עָבְר֤וּ

‘ā·ḇə·rū

they have transgressed

､ תוֹרֹת֙

ṯō·w·rōṯ

the laws ､

חָ֣לְפוּ

ḥā·lə·p̄ū

､ חֹ֔ק

ḥōq,

the ordinance ､

הֵפֵ֖רוּ

hê·p̄ê·rū

בְּרִ֥ית

bə·rîṯ

. עוֹלָֽם׃

‘ō·w·lām.

עַל־

‘al-

כֵּ֗ן

kên,

אָלָה֙

’ā·lāh

the oath

אָ֣כְלָה

’ā·ḵə·lāh

､ אֶ֔רֶץ

’e·reṣ,

the earth ､

– וַֽיֶּאְשְׁמ֖וּ

way·ye’·šə·mū

and are desolate –

יֹ֣שְׁבֵי

yō·šə·ḇê

those who dwell

בָ֑הּ

ḇāh;

in it

עַל־

‘al-

כֵּ֗ן

kên,

､ חָרוּ֙

ḥā·rū

יֹ֣שְׁבֵי

yō·šə·ḇê

the inhabitants

אֶ֔רֶץ

’e·reṣ,

of the earth

וְנִשְׁאַ֥ר

wə·niš·’ar

and [are] left

אֱנ֖וֹשׁ

’ĕ·nō·wōš

. מִזְעָֽר׃

miz·‘ār.

､ אָבַ֥ל

’ā·ḇal

תִּיר֖וֹשׁ

tî·rō·wōš

､ אֻמְלְלָה־

’um·lə·lāh-

גָ֑פֶן

ḡā·p̄en;

the vine

. נֶאֶנְח֖וּ

ne·’en·ḥū

כָּל־

kāl-

שִׂמְחֵי־

śim·ḥê-

. לֵֽב׃

lêḇ.

the merry-hearted .

､ שָׁבַת֙

šā·ḇaṯ

מְשׂ֣וֹשׂ

mə·śō·wś

תֻּפִּ֔ים

tup·pîm,

of the tambourine

､ חָדַ֖ל

ḥā·ḏal

ends ､

שְׁא֣וֹן

šə·’ō·wn

עַלִּיזִ֑ים

‘al·lî·zîm;

of the jubilant

שָׁבַ֖ת

šā·ḇaṯ

מְשׂ֥וֹשׂ

mə·śō·wś

the joy

. כִּנּֽוֹר׃

kin·nō·wr.

of the harp .

– בַּשִּׁ֖יר

baš·šîr

With a song –

לֹ֣א

lō

not

יִשְׁתּוּ־

yiš·tū-

they shall drink

יָ֑יִן

yā·yin;

יֵמַ֥ר

yê·mar

שֵׁכָ֖ר

šê·ḵār

. לְשֹׁתָֽיו׃

lə·šō·ṯāw.

to those who drink it .

– נִשְׁבְּרָ֖ה

niš·bə·rāh

Is broken down –

קִרְיַת־

qir·yaṯ-

the city

תֹּ֑הוּ

tō·hū;

､ סֻגַּ֥ר

sug·gar

is shut up ､

כָּל־

kāl-

בַּ֖יִת

ba·yiṯ

. מִבּֽוֹא׃

mib·bō·w.

so that none may go in .

צְוָחָ֥ה

ṣə·wā·ḥāh

[There is] a cry

עַל־

‘al-

הַיַּ֖יִן

hay·ya·yin

– בַּֽחוּצ֑וֹת

ba·ḥū·ṣō·wṯ;

in the streets –

､ עָֽרְבָה֙

‘ā·rə·ḇāh

is darkened ､

כָּל־

kāl-

שִׂמְחָ֔ה

śim·ḥāh,

גָּלָ֖ה

gā·lāh

מְשׂ֥וֹשׂ

mə·śō·wś

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

of the land .

נִשְׁאַ֥ר

niš·’ar

בָּעִ֖יר

bā·‘îr

in the city

､ שַׁמָּ֑ה

šam·māh;

וּשְׁאִיָּ֖ה

ū·šə·’î·yāh

and with destruction

יֻכַּת־

yuk·kaṯ-

. שָֽׁעַר׃

šā·‘ar.

the gate .

כִּ֣י

kî

כֹ֥ה

ḵōh

יִהְיֶ֛ה

yih·yeh

it shall be

בְּקֶ֥רֶב

bə·qe·reḇ

in the midst

הָאָ֖רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ

of the land

בְּת֣וֹךְ

bə·ṯō·wḵ

､ הָֽעַמִּ֑ים

hā·‘am·mîm;

the people ､

כְּנֹ֣קֶף

kə·nō·qep̄

[it shall be] like the shaking

､ זַ֔יִת

za·yiṯ,

of an olive tree ､

כְּעוֹלֵלֹ֖ת

kə·‘ō·w·lê·lōṯ

Like the gleaning of grapes

אִם־

’im-

כָּלָ֥ה

kā·lāh

. בָצִֽיר׃

ḇā·ṣîr.

הֵ֛מָּה

hêm·māh

יִשְׂא֥וּ

yiś·’ū

､ קוֹלָ֖ם

qō·w·lām

their voice ､

יָרֹ֑נּוּ

yā·rōn·nū;

they shall sing

בִּגְא֣וֹן

biḡ·’ō·wn

for the majesty

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

צָהֲל֖וּ

ṣā·hă·lū

they shall cry aloud

. מִיָּֽם׃

mî·yām.

from the sea .

עַל־

‘al-

כֵּ֥ן

kên

､ בָּאֻרִ֖ים

bā·’u·rîm

in the dawning light ､

כַּבְּד֣וּ

kab·bə·ḏū

יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

בְּאִיֵּ֣י

bə·’î·yê

in the coastlands

. הַיָּ֔ם

hay·yām,

of the sea .

שֵׁ֥ם

laṣ·ṣad·dîq,

to the righteous .

､ וָאֹמַ֛ר

But I said ､

､ רָזִי־

rā·zî-

I am ruined ､

to me

､ רָֽזִי־

לִ֖י

to

א֣וֹי

’ō·w

לִ֑י

to me

בֹּגְדִ֣ים

bō·ḡə·ḏîm

the treacherous dealers

– בָּגָ֔דוּ

bā·ḡā·ḏū,

have dealt treacherously –

וּבֶ֥גֶד

ū·ḇe·ḡeḏ

and indeed very

בּוֹגְדִ֖ים

bō·wḡ·ḏîm

the treacherous dealers

. בָּגָֽדוּ׃

bā·ḡā·ḏū.

have dealt treacherously .

､ פַּ֥חַד

pa·ḥaḏ

Fear ､

､ וָפַ֖חַת

wā·p̄a·ḥaṯ

and the pit ､

､ וָפָ֑ח

wā·p̄āḥ;

and the snare ､

עָלֶ֖יךָ

‘ā·le·ḵā

יוֹשֵׁ֥ב

yō·wō·šêḇ

. הָאָֽרֶץ׃

hā·’ā·reṣ.

of the earth .

､ וְֽ֠הָיָה

wə·hā·yāh

And it shall be ､

הַנָּ֞ס

han·nās

[That] he who flees

מִקּ֤וֹל

miq·qō·wl

הַפַּ֙חַד֙

hap·pa·ḥaḏ

of the fear

יִפֹּ֣ל

yip·pōl

אֶל־

’el-

– הַפַּ֔חַת

hap·pa·ḥaṯ,

the pit –

וְהָֽעוֹלֶה֙

wə·hā·‘ō·w·leh

and he who comes up

מִתּ֣וֹךְ

mit·tō·wḵ

הַפַּ֔חַת

hap·pa·ḥaṯ,

of the pit

יִלָּכֵ֖ד

yil·lā·ḵêḏ

shall be caught

– בַּפָּ֑ח

bap·pāḥ;

in the snare –

כִּֽי־

kî-

אֲרֻבּ֤וֹת

’ă·rub·bō·wṯ

מִמָּרוֹם֙

mim·mā·rō·wm

､ נִפְתָּ֔חוּ

nip̄·tā·ḥū,

וַֽיִּרְעֲשׁ֖וּ

way·yir·‘ă·šū

מ֥וֹסְדֵי

mō·ws·ḏê

the foundations

. אָֽרֶץ׃

’ā·reṣ.

of the earth .

רֹ֥עָה

rō·‘āh

､ הִֽתְרֹעֲעָ֖ה

hiṯ·rō·‘ă·‘āh

is broken ､

הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

פּ֤וֹר

pō·wr

､ הִֽתְפּוֹרְרָה֙

hiṯ·pō·wr·rāh

is split ､

אֶ֔רֶץ

’e·reṣ,

מ֥וֹט

mō·wṭ

הִֽתְמוֹטְטָ֖ה

hiṯ·mō·wṭ·ṭāh

. אָֽרֶץ׃

’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

נ֣וֹעַ

nō·w·a‘

To and fro

תָּנ֤וּעַ

tā·nū·a‘

אֶ֙רֶץ֙

’e·reṣ

､ כַּשִּׁכּ֔וֹר

kaš·šik·kō·wr,

like a drunkard ､

וְהִֽתְנוֹדְדָ֖ה

wə·hiṯ·nō·wḏ·ḏāh

and shall totter

– כַּמְּלוּנָ֑ה

kam·mə·lū·nāh;

like a hut –

וְכָבַ֤ד

wə·ḵā·ḇaḏ

and shall be heavy

עָלֶ֙יהָ֙

‘ā·le·hā

פִּשְׁעָ֔הּ

piš·‘āh,

Its transgression

､ וְנָפְלָ֖ה

wə·nā·p̄ə·lāh

and it will fall ､

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

and not

תֹסִ֥יף

ṯō·sîp̄

. קֽוּם׃

qūm.

וְהָיָה֙

wə·hā·yāh

And it shall come to pass

､ בַּיּ֣וֹם

bay·yō·wm

in day ､

הַה֔וּא

ha·hū,

יִפְקֹ֧ד

yip̄·qōḏ

[That] will punish

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

עַל־

‘al-

on

צְבָ֥א

ṣə·ḇā

the host

הַמָּר֖וֹם

ham·mā·rō·wm

of exalted ones

､ בַּמָּר֑וֹם

bam·mā·rō·wm;

on high ､

וְעַל־

wə·‘al-

and

מַלְכֵ֥י

mal·ḵê

הָאֲדָמָ֖ה

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh

of the earth

עַל־

‘al-

on

. הָאֲדָמָֽה׃

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh.

the earth .

､ וְאֻסְּפ֨וּ

wə·’us·sə·p̄ū

And they will be gathered together ､

אֲסֵפָ֤ה

’ă·sê·p̄āh

[As] are gathered

אַסִּיר֙

’as·sîr

עַל־

‘al-

in

､ בּ֔וֹר

bō·wr,

the pit ､

וְסֻגְּר֖וּ

wə·sug·gə·rū

and will be shut up

עַל־

‘al-

in

､ מַסְגֵּ֑ר

mas·gêr;

the prison ､

וּמֵרֹ֥ב

ū·mê·rōḇ

יָמִ֖ים

yā·mîm

. יִפָּקֵֽדוּ׃

yip·pā·qê·ḏū.

they will be punished .

､ וְחָֽפְרָה֙

wə·ḥā·p̄ə·rāh

And will be disgraced ､

הַלְּבָנָ֔ה

hal·lə·ḇā·nāh,

the moon

､ וּבוֹשָׁ֖ה

ū·ḇō·wō·šāh

and ashamed ､

הַֽחַמָּ֑ה

ha·ḥam·māh;

the sun

כִּֽי־

kî-

מָלַ֞ךְ

mā·laḵ

will reign

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֗וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ,

בְּהַ֤ר

bə·har

､ צִיּוֹן֙

ṣî·yō·wn

Zion ､

､ וּבִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם

ū·ḇî·rū·šā·lim,

and in Jerusalem ､

וְנֶ֥גֶד

wə·ne·ḡeḏ

זְקֵנָ֖יו

zə·qê·nāw

. כָּבֽוֹד׃

kā·ḇō·wḏ.
