A Righteous King

､ הֵ֥ן
hên
Behold ､
､ לְצֶ֖דֶק
lə·ṣe·ḏeq
יִמְלָךְ־
yim·lāḵ-
will reign
מֶ֑לֶךְ
me·leḵ;
וּלְשָׂרִ֖ים
ū·lə·śā·rîm
לְמִשְׁפָּ֥ט
lə·miš·pāṭ
with justice
. יָשֹֽׂרוּ׃
yā·śō·rū.
will rule .

וְהָיָה־
wə·hā·yāh-
And will be
אִ֥ישׁ
’îš
a man
כְּמַֽחֲבֵא־
kə·ma·ḥă·ḇê-
､ ר֖וּחַ
rū·aḥ
the wind ､
וְסֵ֣תֶר
wə·sê·ṯer
and a cover from
– זָ֑רֶם
zā·rem;
the tempest –
כְּפַלְגֵי־
kə·p̄al·ḡê-
מַ֣יִם
ma·yim
､ בְּצָי֔וֹן
bə·ṣā·yō·wn,
in a dry place ､
כְּצֵ֥ל
kə·ṣêl
as the shadow
סֶֽלַע־
se·la‘-
of a rock
כָּבֵ֖ד
kā·ḇêḏ
בְּאֶ֥רֶץ
bə·’e·reṣ
in a land
. עֲיֵפָֽה׃
‘ă·yê·p̄āh.

וְלֹ֥א
wə·lō
And not
､ תִשְׁעֶ֖ינָה
ṯiš·‘e·nāh
will be dim ､
עֵינֵ֣י
‘ê·nê
the eyes
רֹאִ֑ים
rō·’îm;
וְאָזְנֵ֥י
wə·’ā·zə·nê
and the ears
שֹׁמְעִ֖ים
šō·mə·‘îm
. תִּקְשַֽׁבְנָה׃
tiq·šaḇ·nāh.
will listen .

וּלְבַ֥ב
ū·lə·ḇaḇ
And the heart
נִמְהָרִ֖ים
nim·hā·rîm
of the rash
יָבִ֣ין
yā·ḇîn
､ לָדָ֑עַת
lā·ḏā·‘aṯ;
וּלְשׁ֣וֹן
ū·lə·šō·wn
and the tongue
עִלְּגִ֔ים
‘il·lə·ḡîm,
of the stammerers
תְּמַהֵ֖ר
tə·ma·hêr
will be ready
לְדַבֵּ֥ר
lə·ḏab·bêr
. צָחֽוֹת׃
ṣā·ḥō·wṯ.

לֹֽא־
lō-
יִקָּרֵ֥א
yiq·qā·rê
will be called
ע֛וֹד
‘ō·wḏ
לְנָבָ֖ל
lə·nā·ḇāl
､ נָדִ֑יב
nā·ḏîḇ;
וּלְכִילַ֕י
ū·lə·ḵî·lay
and the miser
לֹ֥א
lō
יֵֽאָמֵ֖ר
yê·’ā·mêr
said [to be]
. שֽׁוֹעַ׃
šō·w·a‘.

כִּ֤י
kî
נָבָל֙
nā·ḇāl
､ נְבָלָ֣ה
nə·ḇā·lāh
יְדַבֵּ֔ר
yə·ḏab·bêr,
will speak
וְלִבּ֖וֹ
wə·lib·bōw
יַעֲשֶׂה־
ya·‘ă·śeh-
will work
､ אָ֑וֶן
’ā·wen;
לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת
la·‘ă·śō·wṯ
､ חֹ֗נֶף
ḥō·nep̄,
וּלְדַבֵּ֤ר
ū·lə·ḏab·bêr
and to utter
אֶל־
’el-
יְהוָה֙
Yah·weh
תּוֹעָ֔ה
tō·w·‘āh,
לְהָרִיק֙
lə·hā·rîq
נֶ֣פֶשׁ
ne·p̄eš
the soul
､ רָעֵ֔ב
rā·‘êḇ,
the hungry ､
וּמַשְׁקֶ֥ה
ū·maš·qeh
and he will [cause] the drink
צָמֵ֖א
ṣā·mê
of the thirsty
. יַחְסִֽיר׃
yaḥ·sîr.
to fail .

וְכֵלַ֖י
wə·ḵê·lay
And of the schemer
כֵּלָ֣יו
kê·lāw
– רָעִ֑ים
rā·‘îm;
[are] evil –
ה֚וּא
hū
He
זִמּ֣וֹת
zim·mō·wṯ
יָעָ֔ץ
yā·‘āṣ,
לְחַבֵּ֤ל
lə·ḥab·bêl
[ענוים]
‘ă·nā·wîm
-
(עֲנִיִּים֙)
‘ă·nî·yîm
the poor
､ בְּאִמְרֵי־
bə·’im·rê-
with words ､
שֶׁ֔קֶר
še·qer,
וּבְדַבֵּ֥ר
ū·ḇə·ḏab·bêr
אֶבְי֖וֹן
’eḇ·yō·wn
the needy
. מִשְׁפָּֽט׃
miš·pāṭ.

וְנָדִ֖יב
wə·nā·ḏîḇ
– נְדִיב֣וֹת
nə·ḏî·ḇō·wṯ
יָעָ֑ץ
yā·‘āṣ;
וְה֖וּא
wə·hū
and he
עַל־
‘al-
by
נְדִיב֥וֹת
nə·ḏî·ḇō·wṯ
. יָקֽוּם׃
yā·qūm.

– שַֽׁאֲנַנּ֔וֹת
ša·’ă·nan·nō·wṯ,
who are at ease –
､ קֹ֖מְנָה
qō·mə·nāh
Rise up ､
שְׁמַ֣עְנָה
šə·ma‘·nāh
､ קוֹלִ֑י
qō·w·lî;
my voice ､
– בָּנוֹת֙
bā·nō·wṯ
בֹּֽטח֔וֹת
bō·ṭ·ḥō·wṯ,
הַאְזֵ֖נָּה
ha’·zên·nāh
. אִמְרָתִֽי׃
’im·rā·ṯî.
to my speech .

יָמִים֙
yā·mîm
And [some] days
עַל־
‘al-
in
שָׁנָ֔ה
šā·nāh,
､ תִּרְגַּ֖זְנָה
tir·gaz·nāh
You will be troubled ､
– בֹּֽטְח֑וֹת
bō·ṭə·ḥō·wṯ;
כִּ֚י
kî
､ כָּלָ֣ה
kā·lāh
will fail ､
בָצִ֔יר
ḇā·ṣîr,
אֹ֖סֶף
’ō·sep̄
בְּלִ֥י
bə·lî
not
. יָבֽוֹא׃
yā·ḇō·w.
will come .

､ חִרְדוּ֙
ḥir·ḏū
– שַֽׁאֲנַנּ֔וֹת
ša·’ă·nan·nō·wṯ,
you [women] who are at ease –
､ רְגָ֖זָה
rə·ḡā·zāh
Be troubled ､
– בֹּֽטְח֑וֹת
bō·ṭə·ḥō·wṯ;
פְּשֹׁ֣טָֽה
pə·šō·ṭāh
､ וְעֹ֔רָה
wə·‘ō·rāh,
וַחֲג֖וֹרָה
wa·ḥă·ḡō·w·rāh
עַל־
‘al-
on
. חֲלָצָֽיִם׃
ḥă·lā·ṣā·yim.

עַל־
‘al-
､ שָׁדַ֖יִם
šā·ḏa·yim
סֹֽפְדִ֑ים
sō·p̄ə·ḏîm;
עַל־
‘al-
､ שְׂדֵי־
śə·ḏê-
the fields ､
חֶ֕מֶד
ḥe·meḏ
עַל־
‘al-
גֶּ֖פֶן
ge·p̄en
the vine
. פֹּרִיָּֽה׃
pō·rî·yāh.

עַ֚ל
‘al
On
אַדְמַ֣ת
’aḏ·maṯ
the land
עַמִּ֔י
‘am·mî,
of my people
ק֥וֹץ
qō·wṣ
– שָׁמִ֖יר
šā·mîr
[and] briers –
תַּֽעֲלֶ֑ה
ta·‘ă·leh;
will come up
､ כִּ֚י
kî
Yes ､
עַל־
‘al-
on
כָּל־
kāl-
בָּתֵּ֣י
bāt·tê
the homes
מָשׂ֔וֹשׂ
mā·śō·wś,
קִרְיָ֖ה
qir·yāh
[in] the city
. עַלִּיזָֽה׃
‘al·lî·zāh.

כִּֽי־
kî-
אַרְמ֣וֹן
’ar·mō·wn
– נֻטָּ֔שׁ
nuṭ·ṭāš,
will be forsaken –
הֲמ֥וֹן
hă·mō·wn
עִ֖יר
‘îr
the city
– עֻזָּ֑ב
‘uz·zāḇ;
will be deserted –
עֹ֣פֶל
‘ō·p̄el
the forts
וָבַ֜חַן
wā·ḇa·ḥan
and towers
הָיָ֨ה
hā·yāh
will become
בְעַ֤ד
ḇə·‘aḏ
מְעָרוֹת֙
mə·‘ā·rō·wṯ
עַד־
‘aḏ-
､ עוֹלָ֔ם
‘ō·w·lām,
ever ､
מְשׂ֥וֹשׂ
mə·śō·wś
a joy
､ פְּרָאִ֖ים
pə·rā·’îm
of wild donkeys ､
מִרְעֵ֥ה
mir·‘êh
– עֲדָרִֽים׃
‘ă·ḏā·rîm.
of flocks –
15
עַד־
‘aḏ-
יֵ֨עָרֶ֥ה
yê·‘ā·reh
עָלֵ֛ינוּ
‘ā·lê·nū
upon us
ר֖וּחַ
rū·aḥ
the Spirit
､ מִמָּר֑וֹם
mim·mā·rō·wm;
from on high ､
וְהָיָ֤ה
wə·hā·yāh
מִדְבָּר֙
miḏ·bār
､ לַכַּרְמֶ֔ל
lak·kar·mel,
[וכרמל]
wə·ḵar·mel
-
(וְהַכַּרְמֶ֖ל)
wə·hak·kar·mel
and the fruitful field
לַיַּ֥עַר
lay·ya·‘ar
as a forest
. יֵחָשֵֽׁב׃
yê·ḥā·šêḇ.
is counted .
16
וְשָׁכַ֥ן
wə·šā·ḵan
And will dwell
､ בַּמִּדְבָּ֖ר
bam·miḏ·bār
in the wilderness ､
מִשְׁפָּ֑ט
miš·pāṭ;
וּצְדָקָ֖ה
ū·ṣə·ḏā·qāh
בַּכַּרְמֶ֥ל
bak·kar·mel
. תֵּשֵֽׁב׃
tê·šêḇ.
17
וְהָיָ֛ה
wə·hā·yāh
And will be
מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה
ma·‘ă·śêh
the work
הַצְּדָקָ֖ה
haṣ·ṣə·ḏā·qāh
– שָׁל֑וֹם
šā·lō·wm;
peace –
וַֽעֲבֹדַת֙
wa·‘ă·ḇō·ḏaṯ
and the effect
הַצְּדָקָ֔ה
haṣ·ṣə·ḏā·qāh,
הַשְׁקֵ֥ט
haš·qêṭ
וָבֶ֖טַח
wā·ḇe·ṭaḥ
עַד־
‘aḏ-
. עוֹלָֽם׃
‘ō·w·lām.
18
וְיָשַׁ֥ב
wə·yā·šaḇ
And will dwell
עַמִּ֖י
‘am·mî
､ בִּנְוֵ֣ה
bin·wêh
in a habitation ､
שָׁל֑וֹם
šā·lō·wm;
､ וּֽבְמִשְׁכְּנוֹת֙
ū·ḇə·miš·kə·nō·wṯ
and in dwellings ､
מִבְטַחִ֔ים
miḇ·ṭa·ḥîm,
– וּבִמְנוּחֹ֖ת
ū·ḇim·nū·ḥōṯ
and in resting places –
. שַׁאֲנַנּֽוֹת׃
ša·’ă·nan·nō·wṯ.

､ וּבָרַ֖ד
ū·ḇā·raḏ
And Though hail ､
בְּרֶ֣דֶת
bə·re·ḏeṯ
– הַיָּ֑עַר
hay·yā·‘ar;
on the forest –
וּבַשִּׁפְלָ֖ה
ū·ḇaš·šip̄·lāh
תִּשְׁפַּ֥ל
tiš·pal
. הָעִֽיר׃
hā·‘îr.
the city .
20
אַשְׁרֵיכֶ֕ם
’aš·rê·ḵem
זֹרְעֵ֖י
zō·rə·‘ê
עַל־
‘al-
כָּל־
kāl-
､ מָ֑יִם
mā·yim;
waters ､
מְשַׁלְּחֵ֥י
mə·šal·lə·ḥê
רֶֽגֶל־
re·ḡel-
the feet
הַשּׁ֖וֹר
haš·šō·wr
of the ox
. וְהַחֲמֽוֹר׃
wə·ha·ḥă·mō·wr.
and the donkey .
