יְהוָה֙

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me

קַח־

qaḥ-

לְךָ֖

lə·ḵā

to

､ גִּלָּי֣וֹן

gil·lā·yō·wn

a scroll ､

גָּד֑וֹל

gā·ḏō·wl;

וּכְתֹ֤ב

ū·ḵə·ṯōḇ

עָלָיו֙

‘ā·lāw

on it

בְּחֶ֣רֶט

bə·ḥe·reṭ

with a pen

אֱנ֔וֹשׁ

’ĕ·nō·wōš,

of man

לְמַהֵ֥ר

lə·ma·hêr

to

שָׁלָ֖ל

šā·lāl

-

חָ֥שׁ

ḥāš

-

. בַּֽז׃

baz.

concerning Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz .

､ וְאָעִ֣ידָה

wə·’ā·‘î·ḏāh

And I will take to record ､

לִּ֔י

lî,

עֵדִ֖ים

‘ê·ḏîm

נֶאֱמָנִ֑ים

ne·’ĕ·mā·nîm;

אֵ֚ת

’êṯ

-

אוּרִיָּ֣ה

’ū·rî·yāh

､ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן

hak·kō·hên,

the priest ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

זְכַרְיָ֖הוּ

zə·ḵar·yā·hū

בֶּ֥ן

ben

. יְבֶרֶכְיָֽהוּ׃

yə·ḇe·reḵ·yā·hū.

of Jeberechiah .

וָאֶקְרַב֙

wā·’eq·raḇ

And I went

אֶל־

’el-

to

– הַנְּבִיאָ֔ה

han·nə·ḇî·’āh,

the prophetess –

､ וַתַּ֖הַר

wat·ta·har

and she conceived ､

וַתֵּ֣לֶד

wat·tê·leḏ

and bore

. בֵּ֑ן

bên;

a son .

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me

קְרָ֣א

qə·rā

שְׁמ֔וֹ

šə·mōw,

מַהֵ֥ר

ma·hêr

שָׁלָ֖ל

šā·lāl

-

חָ֥שׁ

ḥāš

-

. בַּֽז׃

baz.

Maher-shalal-hash-baz .

כִּ֗י

kî,

בְּטֶ֙רֶם֙

bə·ṭe·rem

יֵדַ֣ע

yê·ḏa‘

shall have knowledge

הַנַּ֔עַר

han·na·‘ar,

､ קְרֹ֖א

qə·rō

to cry ､

､ אָבִ֣י

’ā·ḇî

My father ､

､ וְאִמִּ֑י

wə·’im·mî;

and My mother ､

יִשָּׂ֣א ׀

yiś·śā

will be taken away

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

חֵ֣יל

ḥêl

דַּמֶּ֗שֶׂק

dam·me·śeq,

וְאֵת֙

wə·’êṯ

and

שְׁלַ֣ל

šə·lal

שֹׁמְר֔וֹן

šō·mə·rō·wn,

לִפְנֵ֖י

lip̄·nê

מֶ֥לֶךְ

me·leḵ

the king

. אַשּֽׁוּר׃

’aš·šūr.

And also ､

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

דַּבֵּ֥ר

dab·bêr

אֵלַ֛י

’ê·lay

to me

ע֖וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

､ לֵאמֹֽר׃

lê·mōr.

יַ֗עַן

ya·‘an,

כִּ֤י

kî

מָאַס֙

mā·’as

הָעָ֣ם

hā·‘ām

הַזֶּ֔ה

haz·zeh,

אֵ֚ת

’êṯ

-

מֵ֣י

mê

הַשִּׁלֹ֔חַ

haš·ši·lō·aḥ,

הַהֹלְכִ֖ים

ha·hō·lə·ḵîm

､ לְאַ֑ט

lə·’aṭ;

וּמְשׂ֥וֹשׂ

ū·mə·śō·wś

and rejoice in

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

רְצִ֖ין

rə·ṣîn

– וּבֶן־

ū·ḇen-

and in son –

. רְמַלְיָֽהוּ׃

rə·mal·yā·hū.

､ וְלָכֵ֡ן

wə·lā·ḵên

Therefore now ､

､ הִנֵּ֣ה

hin·nêh

אֲדֹנָי֩

’ă·ḏō·nāy

the Lord

מַעֲלֶ֨ה

ma·‘ă·leh

עֲלֵיהֶ֜ם

‘ă·lê·hem

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

מֵ֣י

mê

､ הַנָּהָ֗ר

han·nā·hār,

of the River ､

הָעֲצוּמִים֙

hā·‘ă·ṣū·mîm

､ וְהָ֣רַבִּ֔ים

wə·hā·rab·bîm,

and mighty ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

מֶ֥לֶךְ

me·leḵ

the king

､ אַשּׁ֖וּר

’aš·šūr

of Assyria ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

כָּל־

kāl-

– כְּבוֹד֑וֹ

kə·ḇō·w·ḏōw;

וְעָלָה֙

wə·‘ā·lāh

and He will go up

עַל־

‘al-

כָּל־

kāl-

､ אֲפִיקָ֔יו

’ă·p̄î·qāw,

his channels ､

וְהָלַ֖ךְ

wə·hā·laḵ

and go

עַל־

‘al-

כָּל־

kāl-

. גְּדוֹתָֽיו׃

gə·ḏō·w·ṯāw.

וְחָלַ֤ף

wə·ḥā·lap̄

And He will pass

– בִּֽיהוּדָה֙

bî·hū·ḏāh

through Judah –

שָׁטַ֣ף

šā·ṭap̄

He will overflow

､ וְעָבַ֔ר

wə·‘ā·ḇar,

and pass over ､

עַד־

‘aḏ-

to

– צַוָּ֖אר

ṣaw·wār

the neck –

יַגִּ֑יעַ

yag·gî·a‘;

He will reach up

וְהָיָה֙

wə·hā·yāh

and

מֻטּ֣וֹת

muṭ·ṭō·wṯ

the stretching out

כְּנָפָ֔יו

kə·nā·p̄āw,

מְלֹ֥א

mə·lō

will fill

רֹֽחַב־

rō·ḥaḇ-

､ אַרְצְךָ֖

’ar·ṣə·ḵā

of Your land ､

עִמָּ֥נוּ

‘im·mā·nū

-

. אֵֽל׃

’êl.

ס

רֹ֤עוּ

rō·‘ū

､ עַמִּים֙

‘am·mîm

you peoples ､

וָחֹ֔תּוּ

wā·ḥōt·tū,

and be broken in pieces

､ וְהַֽאֲזִ֔ינוּ

wə·ha·’ă·zî·nū,

and Give ear ､

כֹּ֖ל

kōl

מֶרְחַקֵּי־

mer·ḥaq·qê-

. אָ֑רֶץ

’ā·reṣ;

､ הִתְאַזְּר֣וּ

hiṯ·’az·zə·rū

Gird yourselves ､

וָחֹ֔תּוּ

wā·ḥōt·tū,

but be broken in pieces

､ הִֽתְאַזְּר֖וּ

hiṯ·’az·zə·rū

Gird yourselves ､

. וָחֹֽתּוּ׃

wā·ḥōt·tū.

but be broken in pieces .

עֻ֥צוּ

‘u·ṣū

עֵצָ֖ה

‘ê·ṣāh

– וְתֻפָ֑ר

wə·ṯu·p̄ār;

but it will come to nothing –

דַּבְּר֤וּ

dab·bə·rū

､ דָבָר֙

ḏā·ḇār

the word ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

but not

､ יָק֔וּם

yā·qūm,

it will stand ､

כִּ֥י

kî

עִמָּ֖נוּ

‘im·mā·nū

with us

. אֵֽל׃

’êl.

God [is] .

A Call to Fear God

כִּי֩

kî

כֹ֨ה

ḵōh

אָמַ֧ר

’ā·mar

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

אֵלַ֖י

’ê·lay

to me

כְּחֶזְקַ֣ת

kə·ḥez·qaṯ

､ הַיָּ֑ד

hay·yāḏ;

a hand ､

וְיִסְּרֵ֕נִי

wə·yis·sə·rê·nî

and instructed me

מִלֶּ֛כֶת

mil·le·ḵeṯ

that I should not walk

בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ

bə·ḏe·reḵ

in the way

､ הָֽעָם־

hā·‘ām-

of people ､

הַזֶּ֖ה

haz·zeh

､ לֵאמֹֽר׃

lê·mōr.

､ לֹא־

lō-

not ､

תֹאמְר֣וּן

ṯō·mə·rūn

do say

､ קֶ֔שֶׁר

qe·šer,

a conspiracy ､

לְכֹ֧ל

lə·ḵōl

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ יֹאמַ֛ר

yō·mar

call ､

הָעָ֥ם

hā·‘ām

הַזֶּ֖ה

haz·zeh

– קָ֑שֶׁר

qā·šer;

a conspiracy –

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ מוֹרָא֥וֹ

mō·w·rā·’ōw

their threats ､

לֹֽא־

lō-

תִֽירְא֖וּ

ṯî·rə·’ū

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

. תַעֲרִֽיצוּ׃

ṯa·‘ă·rî·ṣū.

be afraid of .

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֖וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

אֹת֣וֹ

’ō·ṯōw

תַקְדִּ֑ישׁוּ

ṯaq·dî·šū;

you shall regard as holy

וְה֥וּא

wə·hū

and Him

､ מוֹרַאֲכֶ֖ם

mō·w·ra·’ă·ḵem

[Let be] your fear ､

וְה֥וּא

wə·hū

and Him

. מַֽעֲרִֽצְכֶֽם׃

ma·‘ă·riṣ·ḵem.

[let be] your dread .

וְהָיָ֖ה

wə·hā·yāh

And He will be

– לְמִקְדָּ֑שׁ

lə·miq·dāš;

as a sanctuary –

וּלְאֶ֣בֶן

ū·lə·’e·ḇen

but a stone

נֶ֠גֶף

ne·ḡep̄

וּלְצ֨וּר

ū·lə·ṣūr

and a rock

מִכְשׁ֜וֹל

miḵ·šō·wl

לִשְׁנֵ֨י

liš·nê

to the two

בָתֵּ֤י

ḇāt·tê

､ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙

yiś·rā·’êl

of Israel ､

לְפַ֣ח

lə·p̄aḥ

as a trap

וּלְמוֹקֵ֔שׁ

ū·lə·mō·w·qêš,

and a snare

לְיוֹשֵׁ֖ב

lə·yō·wō·šêḇ

to the inhabitants

. יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

yə·rū·šā·lim.

､ וְכָ֥שְׁלוּ

wə·ḵā·šə·lū

And shall stumble ､

בָ֖ם

ḇām

רַבִּ֑ים

rab·bîm;

､ וְנָפְל֣וּ

wə·nā·p̄ə·lū

and they shall fall ､

､ וְנִשְׁבָּ֔רוּ

wə·niš·bā·rū,

and be broken ､

､ וְנוֹקְשׁ֖וּ

wə·nō·wq·šū

and Be snared ､

. וְנִלְכָּֽדוּ׃

wə·nil·kā·ḏū.

and taken .

צ֖וֹר

ṣō·wr

､ תְּעוּדָ֑ה

tə·‘ū·ḏāh;

the testimony ､

חֲת֥וֹם

ḥă·ṯō·wm

תּוֹרָ֖ה

tō·w·rāh

the law

. בְּלִמֻּדָֽי׃

bə·lim·mu·ḏāy.

among my disciples .

וְחִכִּ֙יתִי֙

wə·ḥik·kî·ṯî

And I will wait

､ לַיהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

on Yahweh ､

הַמַּסְתִּ֥יר

ham·mas·tîr

פָּנָ֖יו

pā·nāw

מִבֵּ֣ית

mib·bêṯ

､ יַעֲקֹ֑ב

ya·‘ă·qōḇ;

of Jacob ､

וְקִוֵּ֖יתִֽי־

wə·qiw·wê·ṯî-

and I will hope

. לֽוֹ׃

lōw.

in Him .

､ הִנֵּ֣ה

hin·nêh

Here ､

אָנֹכִ֗י

’ā·nō·ḵî,

[am] I

וְהַיְלָדִים֙

wə·hay·lā·ḏîm

and the sons

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

נָֽתַן־

nā·ṯan-

לִ֣י

lî

me

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

לְאֹת֥וֹת

lə·’ō·ṯō·wṯ

[We are] for signs

וּלְמוֹפְתִ֖ים

ū·lə·mō·wp̄·ṯîm

בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל

bə·yiś·rā·’êl;

מֵעִם֙

mê·‘im

יְהוָ֣ה

Yah·weh

､ צְבָא֔וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ,

of hosts ､

הַשֹּׁכֵ֖ן

haš·šō·ḵên

בְּהַ֥ר

bə·har

. צִיּֽוֹן׃

ṣî·yō·wn.

Afflictions to Idolaters

וְכִֽי־

wə·ḵî-

And when

יֹאמְר֣וּ

yō·mə·rū

אֲלֵיכֶ֗ם

’ă·lê·ḵem,

to you

דִּרְשׁ֤וּ

dir·šū

אֶל־

’el-

､ הָאֹבוֹת֙

hā·’ō·ḇō·wṯ

those who are mediums ､

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

and

הַיִּדְּעֹנִ֔ים

hay·yid·də·‘ō·nîm,

､ הַֽמְצַפְצְפִ֖ים

ham·ṣap̄·ṣə·p̄îm

who whisper ､

､ וְהַמַּהְגִּ֑ים

wə·ham·mah·gîm;

and mutter ､

הֲלוֹא־

hă·lō·w-

עַם֙

‘am

אֶל־

’el-

؟ אֱלֹהָ֣יו

’ĕ·lō·hāw

יִדְרֹ֔שׁ

yiḏ·rōš,

בְּעַ֥ד

bə·‘aḏ

הַחַיִּ֖ים

ha·ḥay·yîm

of the living

אֶל־

’el-

؟ הַמֵּתִֽים׃

ham·mê·ṯîm.

[Should they seek] the dead ؟

לְתוֹרָ֖ה

lə·ṯō·w·rāh

to the law

! וְלִתְעוּדָ֑ה

wə·liṯ·‘ū·ḏāh;

and to the testimony !

אִם־

’im-

if

לֹ֤א

lō

not

יֹֽאמְרוּ֙

yō·mə·rū

､ כַּדָּבָ֣ר

kad·dā·ḇār

according to word ､

הַזֶּ֔ה

haz·zeh,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

[it is] because

אֵֽין־

’ên-

[there is] no

ל֖וֹ

lōw

. שָֽׁחַר׃

šā·ḥar.

וְעָ֥בַר

wə·‘ā·ḇar

And they will pass through

בָּ֖הּ

bāh

it

נִקְשֶׁ֣ה

niq·šeh

וְרָעֵ֑ב

wə·rā·‘êḇ;

､ וְהָיָ֨ה

wə·hā·yāh

and it shall happen ､

כִֽי־

ḵî-

､ יִרְעַ֜ב

yir·‘aḇ

they are hungry ､

､ וְהִתְקַצַּ֗ף

wə·hiṯ·qaṣ·ṣap̄,

that they will be enraged ､

וְקִלֵּ֧ל

wə·qil·lêl

בְּמַלְכּ֛וֹ

bə·mal·kōw

､ וּבֵאלֹהָ֖יו

ū·ḇê·lō·hāw

and their God ､

וּפָנָ֥ה

ū·p̄ā·nāh

and look

. לְמָֽעְלָה׃

lə·mā·‘ə·lāh.

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

And to

– אֶ֖רֶץ

’e·reṣ

the earth –

יַבִּ֑יט

yab·bîṭ;

וְהִנֵּ֨ה

wə·hin·nêh

and see

צָרָ֤ה

ṣā·rāh

､ וַחֲשֵׁכָה֙

wa·ḥă·šê·ḵāh

and darkness ､

מְע֣וּף

mə·‘ūp̄

– צוּקָ֔ה

ṣū·qāh,

of anguish –

וַאֲפֵלָ֖ה

wa·’ă·p̄ê·lāh

and into darkness

. מְנֻדָּֽח׃

mə·nud·dāḥ.

[they will be] driven .
