לַאֲשֶׁ֣ר

､ מוּצָ֣ק

[is] distressed ､

לָהּ֒

lāh

כָּעֵ֣ת

kā·‘êṯ

as when at

הָרִאשׁ֗וֹן

hā·ri·šō·wn,

הֵקַ֞ל

hê·qal

He lightly esteemed

אַ֤רְצָה

’ar·ṣāh

the land

זְבֻלוּן֙

zə·ḇu·lūn

וְאַ֣רְצָה

wə·’ar·ṣāh

and the land

､ נַפְתָּלִ֔י

nap̄·tā·lî,

of Naphtali ､

וְהָאַחֲר֖וֹן

wə·hā·’a·ḥă·rō·wn

הִכְבִּ֑יד

hiḵ·bîḏ;

more heavily oppressed [her]

דֶּ֤רֶךְ

de·reḵ

[By] the way

､ הַיָּם֙

hay·yām

of the sea ､

עֵ֣בֶר

‘ê·ḇer

､ הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן

hay·yar·dên,

the Jordan ､

גְּלִ֖יל

gə·lîl

. הַגּוֹיִֽם׃

hag·gō·w·yim.

of the Gentiles .

הָעָם֙

hā·‘ām

הַהֹלְכִ֣ים

ha·hō·lə·ḵîm

בַּחֹ֔שֶׁךְ

ba·ḥō·šeḵ,

רָא֖וּ

rā·’ū

– א֣וֹר

’ō·wr

a light –

גָּד֑וֹל

gā·ḏō·wl;

יֹשְׁבֵי֙

yō·šə·ḇê

Those who dwelt

בְּאֶ֣רֶץ

bə·’e·reṣ

in the land

､ צַלְמָ֔וֶת

ṣal·mā·weṯ,

of the shadow of death ､

א֖וֹר

’ō·wr

נָגַ֥הּ

nā·ḡah

. עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃

‘ă·lê·hem.

הִרְבִּ֣יתָ

hir·bî·ṯā

You have multiplied

､ הַגּ֔וֹי

hag·gō·w,

the nation ､

[לא]

lō

-

(ל֖וֹ)

lōw

not

הִגְדַּ֣לְתָּ

hiḡ·dal·tā

[And] increased

– הַשִּׂמְחָ֑ה

haś·śim·ḥāh;

שָׂמְח֤וּ

śā·mə·ḥū

לְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā

כְּשִׂמְחַ֣ת

kə·śim·ḥaṯ

According to the joy

､ בַּקָּצִ֔יר

baq·qā·ṣîr,

of harvest ､

כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

יָגִ֖ילוּ

yā·ḡî·lū

בְּחַלְּקָ֥ם

bə·ḥal·lə·qām

when they divide

. שָׁלָֽל׃

šā·lāl.

the spoil .

כִּ֣י ׀

kî

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

עֹ֣ל

‘ōl

the yoke

､ סֻבֳּל֗וֹ

sub·bo·lōw,

of his burden ､

וְאֵת֙

wə·’êṯ

and

מַטֵּ֣ה

maṭ·ṭêh

､ שִׁכְמ֔וֹ

šiḵ·mōw,

of his shoulder ､

שֵׁ֖בֶט

šê·ḇeṭ

the rod

､ הַנֹּגֵ֣שׂ

han·nō·ḡêś

of oppressor ､

בּ֑וֹ

bōw;

הַחִתֹּ֖תָ

ha·ḥit·tō·ṯā

You have broken

כְּי֥וֹם

kə·yō·wm

as in the day

. מִדְיָֽן׃

miḏ·yān.

כִּ֤י

kî

כָל־

ḵāl

סְאוֹן֙

sə·’ō·wn

סֹאֵ֣ן

sō·’ên

､ בְּרַ֔עַשׁ

bə·ra·‘aš,

from the noisy [battle] ､

וְשִׂמְלָ֖ה

wə·śim·lāh

מְגוֹלָלָ֣ה

mə·ḡō·w·lā·lāh

– בְדָמִ֑ים

ḇə·ḏā·mîm;

in blood –

וְהָיְתָ֥ה

wə·hā·yə·ṯāh

and will be used

לִשְׂרֵפָ֖ה

liś·rê·p̄āh

מַאֲכֹ֥לֶת

ma·’ă·ḵō·leṯ

[and] fuel

. אֵֽשׁ׃

’êš.

of fire .

כִּי־

kî-

יֶ֣לֶד

ye·leḏ

､ יֻלַּד־

yul·laḏ-

is born ､

לָ֗נוּ

lā·nū,

בֵּ֚ן

bên

– נִתַּן־

nit·tan-

is given –

לָ֔נוּ

lā·nū,

וַתְּהִ֥י

wat·tə·hî

and will be

הַמִּשְׂרָ֖ה

ham·miś·rāh

עַל־

‘al-

– שִׁכְמ֑וֹ

šiḵ·mōw;

His shoulder –

וַיִּקְרָ֨א

way·yiq·rā

and will be called

שְׁמ֜וֹ

šə·mōw

､ פֶּ֠לֶא

pe·le

､ יוֹעֵץ֙

yō·w·‘êṣ

､ אֵ֣ל

’êl

God ､

גִּבּ֔וֹר

gib·bō·wr,

אֲבִיעַ֖ד

’ă·ḇî·‘aḏ

Everlasting-Father

שַׂר־

śar-

. שָׁלֽוֹם׃

šā·lō·wm.

of Peace .

[לם‪‬ רבה]

(לְמַרְבֵּ֨ה)

Of the increase of

הַמִּשְׂרָ֜ה

[His] government

וּלְשָׁל֣וֹם

אֵֽין־

’ên-

[There will be] no

､ קֵ֗ץ

qêṣ,

end ､

עַל־

‘al-

כִּסֵּ֤א

kis·sê

､ דָוִד֙

ḏā·wiḏ

of David ､

וְעַל־

wə·‘al-

and over

､ מַמְלַכְתּ֔וֹ

mam·laḵ·tōw,

His kingdom ､

לְהָכִ֤ין

lə·hā·ḵîn

אֹתָהּ֙

’ō·ṯāh

it

וּֽלְסַעֲדָ֔הּ

ū·lə·sa·‘ă·ḏāh,

and establish it

בְּמִשְׁפָּ֖ט

bə·miš·pāṭ

וּבִצְדָקָ֑ה

ū·ḇiṣ·ḏā·qāh;

מֵעַתָּה֙

mê·‘at·tāh

from that time forward

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

and even

. עוֹלָ֔ם

‘ō·w·lām,

קִנְאַ֛ת

qin·’aṯ

The zeal

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֖וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

תַּעֲשֶׂה־

ta·‘ă·śeh-

. זֹּֽאת׃

zōṯ.

Judgment against Israel's Pride

דָּבָ֛ר

dā·ḇār

שָׁלַ֥ח

šā·laḥ

אֲדֹנָ֖י

’ă·ḏō·nāy

､ בְּיַעֲקֹ֑ב

bə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ;

against Jacob ､

וְנָפַ֖ל

wə·nā·p̄al

and it has fallen

. בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

bə·yiś·rā·’êl.

､ וְיָדְעוּ֙

wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū

And will know ､

הָעָ֣ם

hā·‘ām

כֻּלּ֔וֹ

kul·lōw,

אֶפְרַ֖יִם

’ep̄·ra·yim

וְיוֹשֵׁ֣ב

wə·yō·wō·šêḇ

and the inhabitant

､ שֹׁמְר֑וֹן

šō·mə·rō·wn;

of Samaria ､

בְּגַאֲוָ֛ה

bə·ḡa·’ă·wāh

וּבְגֹ֥דֶל

ū·ḇə·ḡō·ḏel

､ לֵבָ֖ב

lê·ḇāḇ

of heart ､

. לֵאמֹֽר׃

lê·mōr.

לְבֵנִ֥ים

lə·ḇê·nîm

､ נָפָ֖לוּ

nā·p̄ā·lū

have fallen down ､

– וְגָזִ֣ית

wə·ḡā·zîṯ

but with hewn stones –

נִבְנֶ֑ה

niḇ·neh;

we will rebuild

שִׁקְמִ֣ים

šiq·mîm

､ גֻּדָּ֔עוּ

gud·dā·‘ū,

are cut down ､

וַאֲרָזִ֖ים

wa·’ă·rā·zîm

but with cedars

. נַחֲלִֽיף׃

na·ḥă·lîp̄.

we will replace [them] .

וַיְשַׂגֵּ֧ב

way·śag·gêḇ

Therefore shall set up

יְהוָ֛ה

Yah·weh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

צָרֵ֥י

ṣā·rê

the adversaries

רְצִ֖ין

rə·ṣîn

עָלָ֑יו

‘ā·lāw;

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

אֹיְבָ֖יו

’ō·yə·ḇāw

. יְסַכְסֵֽךְ׃

yə·saḵ·sêḵ.

spur on .

אֲרָ֣ם

’ă·rām

､ מִקֶּ֗דֶם

miq·qe·ḏem,

וּפְלִשְׁתִּים֙

ū·p̄ə·liš·tîm

and the Philistines

– מֵֽאָח֔וֹר

mê·’ā·ḥō·wr,

וַיֹּאכְל֥וּ

way·yō·ḵə·lū

and they shall devour

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

with open

. פֶּ֑ה

peh;

an mouth .

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

זֹאת֙

zōṯ

לֹא־

lō-

not

､ שָׁ֣ב

šāḇ

is turned away ､

אַפּ֔וֹ

’ap·pōw,

וְע֖וֹד

wə·‘ō·wḏ

יָד֥וֹ

yā·ḏōw

. נְטוּיָֽה׃

nə·ṭū·yāh.

[is] stretched out .

Judgment against Israel's Hypocrisy

וְהָעָ֥ם

wə·hā·‘ām

לֹא־

lō-

not

שָׁ֖ב

šāḇ

עַד־

‘aḏ-

to

הַמַּכֵּ֑הוּ

ham·mak·kê·hū;

Him who strikes them

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

. צְבָא֖וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

of hosts .

לֹ֥א

lō

. דָרָֽשׁוּ׃

ḏā·rā·šū.

Therefore will cut off

יְהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֗ל

mî·yiś·rā·’êl,

רֹ֧אשׁ

､ וְזָנָ֛ב

wə·zā·nāḇ

and tail ､

כִּפָּ֥ה

kip·pāh

､ וְאַגְמ֖וֹן

wə·’aḡ·mō·wn

and bulrush ､

י֥וֹם

yō·wm

in day

. אֶחָֽד׃

’e·ḥāḏ.

זָקֵ֥ן

zā·qên

וּנְשׂוּא־

ū·nə·śū-

and

､ פָנִ֖ים

p̄ā·nîm

ה֣וּא

hū

he [is]

– הָרֹ֑אשׁ

hā·rōš;

the head –

וְנָבִ֥יא

wə·nā·ḇî

and the prophet

מֽוֹרֶה־

mō·w·reh-

､ שֶּׁ֖קֶר

še·qer

lies ､

ה֥וּא

hū

he [is]

. הַזָּנָֽב׃

haz·zā·nāḇ.

the tail .

וַיִּֽהְי֛וּ

way·yih·yū

מְאַשְּׁרֵ֥י

mə·’aš·šə·rê

הָֽעָם־

hā·‘ām-

הַזֶּ֖ה

haz·zeh

– מַתְעִ֑ים

maṯ·‘îm;

cause [them] to err –

וּמְאֻשָּׁרָ֖יו

ū·mə·’uš·šā·rāw

and [those who are] led by them

. מְבֻלָּעִֽים׃

mə·ḇul·lā·‘îm.

are destroyed .

כִּ֤י

כֻלּוֹ֙

חָנֵ֣ף

､ וּמֵרַ֔ע

ū·mê·ra‘,

and an evildoer ､

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

פֶּ֖ה

דֹּבֵ֣ר

dō·ḇêr

. נְבָלָ֑ה

nə·ḇā·lāh;

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

זֹאת֙

zōṯ

לֹא־

lō-

､ שָׁ֣ב

is turned away ､

אַפּ֔וֹ

’ap·pōw,

וְע֖וֹד

wə·‘ō·wḏ

יָד֥וֹ

yā·ḏōw

. נְטוּיָֽה׃

nə·ṭū·yāh.

[is] stretched out .

Judgment against Israel's Unrepentance

כִּֽי־

kî-

בָעֲרָ֤ה

ḇā·‘ă·rāh

– כָאֵשׁ֙

ḵā·’êš

as the fire –

רִשְׁעָ֔ה

riš·‘āh,

שָׁמִ֥יר

šā·mîr

､ וָשַׁ֖יִת

wā·ša·yiṯ

and thorns ､

תֹּאכֵ֑ל

tō·ḵêl;

it shall devour

וַתִּצַּת֙

wat·tiṣ·ṣaṯ

בְּסִֽבְכֵ֣י

bə·siḇ·ḵê

in the thickets

､ הַיַּ֔עַר

hay·ya·‘ar,

of the forest ､

וַיִּֽתְאַבְּכ֖וּ

way·yiṯ·’ab·bə·ḵū

and they shall mount up

גֵּא֥וּת

gê·’ūṯ

. עָשָֽׁן׃

‘ā·šān.

בְּעֶבְרַ֛ת

bə·‘eḇ·raṯ

Through the wrath

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

צְבָא֖וֹת

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ

､ נֶעְתַּ֣ם

ne‘·tam

is burned up ､

אָ֑רֶץ

’ā·reṣ;

the land

וַיְהִ֤י

way·hî

and shall be

הָעָם֙

hā·‘ām

כְּמַאֲכֹ֣לֶת

kə·ma·’ă·ḵō·leṯ

– אֵ֔שׁ

’êš,

the fire –

אִ֥ישׁ

’îš

אֶל־

’el-

אָחִ֖יו

’ā·ḥîw

לֹ֥א

lō

. יַחְמֹֽלוּ׃

yaḥ·mō·lū.

וַיִּגְזֹ֤ר

way·yiḡ·zōr

And he shall snatch

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ יָמִין֙

yā·mîn

the right hand ､

– וְרָעֵ֔ב

wə·rā·‘êḇ,

and be hungry –

וַיֹּ֥אכַל

way·yō·ḵal

and He shall devour

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ שְׂמֹ֖אול

śə·mō·wl

the left hand ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and not

– שָׂבֵ֑עוּ

śā·ḇê·‘ū;

be satisfied –

אִ֥ישׁ

’îš

בְּשַׂר־

bə·śar-

זְרֹע֖וֹ

zə·rō·‘ōw

. יֹאכֵֽלוּ׃

yō·ḵê·lū.

､ מְנַשֶּׁ֣ה

mə·naš·šeh

Manasseh [shall devour] ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

– אֶפְרַ֗יִם

’ep̄·ra·yim,

､ וְאֶפְרַ֙יִם֙

wə·’ep̄·ra·yim

and Ephraim ､

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה

mə·naš·šeh,

יַחְדָּ֥ו

yaḥ·dāw

הֵ֖מָּה

hêm·māh

they [shall be]

עַל־

‘al-

. יְהוּדָ֑ה

yə·hū·ḏāh;

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

זֹאת֙

zōṯ

לֹא־

lō-

not

､ שָׁ֣ב

šāḇ

is turned away ､

אַפּ֔וֹ

’ap·pōw,

. וְע֖וֹד

wə·‘ō·wḏ

but still .

יָד֥וֹ

yā·ḏōw

. נְטוּיָֽה׃

nə·ṭū·yāh.

[is] stretched out .
