hay·yō·w·ṣêr;

of the potter

וְשָׁ֖מָּה

wə·šām·māh

אַשְׁמִֽיעֲךָ֥

’aš·mî·‘ă·ḵā

I will cause you to hear

אֶת־

’eṯ-

וָאֵרֵ֖ד

And I went down

､ בֵּ֣ית

to house ､

הַיּוֹצֵ֑ר

hay·yō·w·ṣêr;

of the potter

[והנהו]

wə·hin·nê·hū

מְלָאכָ֖ה

the wheel .

וְנִשְׁחַ֣ת

wə·niš·ḥaṯ

הַכְּלִ֗י

hak·kə·lî,

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

ה֥וּא

עֹשֶׂ֛ה

בַּחֹ֖מֶר

ba·ḥō·mer

בְּיַ֣ד

bə·yaḏ

in the hand

– הַיּוֹצֵ֑ר

hay·yō·w·ṣêr;

of the potter –

וְשָׁ֗ב

wə·šāḇ,

וַֽיַּעֲשֵׂ֙הוּ֙

way·ya·‘ă·śê·hū

and he made it

､ כְּלִ֣י

kə·lî

into vessel ､

אַחֵ֔ר

’a·ḥêr,

כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

יָשַׁ֛ר

yā·šar

בְּעֵינֵ֥י

bə·‘ê·nê

it seemed to

הַיּוֹצֵ֖ר

hay·yō·w·ṣêr

. לַעֲשֽׂוֹת׃

la·‘ă·śō·wṯ.

to make .

can as potter ؟

הַזֶּ֜ה

לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת

with you

of Israel ､

נְאֻם־

Yah·weh;

､ הִנֵּ֤ה

Look ､

כַחֹ֙מֶר֙

as the clay [is]

､ בְּיַ֣ד

bə·yaḏ

in hand ､

הַיּוֹצֵ֔ר

hay·yō·w·ṣêr,

כֵּן־

kên-

so

אַתֶּ֥ם

’at·tem

､ בְּיָדִ֖י

bə·yā·ḏî

in My hand ､

בֵּ֥ית

bêṯ

. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

re·ḡa‘

אֲדַבֵּ֔ר

’ă·ḏab·bêr,

עַל־

‘al-

､ גּ֖וֹי

gō·w

a nation ､

וְעַל־

wə·‘al-

､ מַמְלָכָ֑ה

mam·lā·ḵāh;

､ לִנְת֥וֹשׁ

lin·ṯō·wōš

to pluck up ､

､ וְלִנְת֖וֹץ

wə·lin·ṯō·wṣ

and to pull down ､

. וּֽלְהַאֲבִֽיד׃

ū·lə·ha·’ă·ḇîḏ.

and to destroy [it] .

וְשָׁב֙

wə·šāḇ

And if turns

､ הַגּ֣וֹי

hag·gō·w

הַה֔וּא

ha·hū,

､ מֵרָ֣עָת֔וֹ

mê·rā·‘ā·ṯōw,

from its evil ､

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

､ דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי

dib·bar·tî

I have spoken ､

עָלָ֑יו

‘ā·lāw;

וְנִֽחַמְתִּי֙

wə·ni·ḥam·tî

and I will relent

עַל־

‘al-

of

הָ֣רָעָ֔ה

hā·rā·‘āh,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

חָשַׁ֖בְתִּי

ḥā·šaḇ·tî

לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת

la·‘ă·śō·wṯ

. לֽוֹ׃

lōw.

וְרֶ֣גַע

And the instant

אֲדַבֵּ֔ר

’ă·ḏab·bêr,

עַל־

‘al-

､ גּ֖וֹי

gō·w

a nation ､

וְעַל־

wə·‘al-

､ מַמְלָכָ֑ה

mam·lā·ḵāh;

לִבְנֹ֖ת

liḇ·nōṯ

. וְלִנְטֹֽעַ׃

wə·lin·ṭō·a‘.

and to plant [it] .

וְעָשָׂ֤ה

wə·‘ā·śāh

And if it does

[הרעה]

hā·rā·‘āh

-

(הָרַע֙)

hā·ra‘

､ בְּעֵינַ֔י

bə·‘ê·nay,

in My sight ､

לְבִלְתִּ֖י

lə·ḇil·tî

not

שְׁמֹ֣עַ

šə·mō·a‘

so that it does obey

､ בְּקוֹלִ֑י

bə·qō·w·lî;

My voice ､

וְנִֽחַמְתִּי֙

wə·ni·ḥam·tî

then I will relent

עַל־

‘al-

､ הַטּוֹבָ֔ה

haṭ·ṭō·w·ḇāh,

the good ､

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

with which

אָמַ֖רְתִּי

’ā·mar·tî

לְהֵיטִ֥יב

lə·hê·ṭîḇ

I would benefit

. אוֹתֽוֹ׃

’ō·w·ṯōw.

it .

the inhabitants

､ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם

yə·rū·šā·lim

of Jerusalem ､

､ לֵאמֹ֗ר

lê·mōr,

כֹּ֚ה

– יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

､ הִנֵּ֨ה

אָנֹכִ֜י

יוֹצֵ֤ר

עֲלֵיכֶם֙

רָעָ֔ה

rā·‘āh,

וְחֹשֵׁ֥ב

wə·ḥō·šêḇ

עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם

‘ă·lê·ḵem

מַֽחֲשָׁבָ֑ה

ma·ḥă·šā·ḇāh;

שׁ֣וּבוּ

šū·ḇū

נָ֗א

nā,

אִ֚ישׁ

’îš

､ מִדַּרְכּ֣וֹ

mid·dar·kōw

from his way ､

הָֽרָעָ֔ה

hā·rā·‘āh,

וְהֵיטִ֥יבוּ

wə·hê·ṭî·ḇū

דַרְכֵיכֶ֖ם

ḏar·ḵê·ḵem

. וּמַעַלְלֵיכֶֽם׃

ū·ma·‘al·lê·ḵem.

and your doings .

､ וְאָמְר֖וּ

wə·’ā·mə·rū

And they said ､

! נוֹאָ֑שׁ

nō·w·’āš;

that is hopeless !

כִּֽי־

kî-

so

אַחֲרֵ֤י

’a·ḥă·rê

､ מַחְשְׁבוֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙

maḥ·šə·ḇō·w·ṯê·nū

our own plans ､

נֵלֵ֔ךְ

nê·lêḵ,

we will walk

וְאִ֛ישׁ

wə·’îš

שְׁרִר֥וּת

šə·ri·rūṯ

. לִבּֽוֹ־

lib·bōw-

הָרָ֖ע

hā·rā‘

. נַעֲשֶֽׂה׃

na·‘ă·śeh.

we will obey .

– יְהוָ֔ה

､ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם

bag·gō·w·yim,

among the Gentiles ､

מִ֥י

mî

שָׁמַ֖ע

šā·ma‘

כָּאֵ֑לֶּה

kā·’êl·leh;

. שַֽׁעֲרֻרִת֙

ša·‘ă·ru·riṯ

a horrible thing .

עָשְׂתָ֣ה

‘ā·śə·ṯāh

מְאֹ֔ד

mə·’ōḏ,

בְּתוּלַ֖ת

bə·ṯū·laṯ

. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

yiś·rā·’êl.

הֲיַעֲזֹ֥ב

hă·ya·‘ă·zōḇ

Will [a man] leave

מִצּ֛וּר

miṣ·ṣūr

[Which comes] from the rock

؟ שָׂדַ֖י

śā·ḏay

of the field ؟

שֶׁ֣לֶג

še·leḡ

the snow [water]

לְבָנ֑וֹן

lə·ḇā·nō·wn;

אִם־

’im-

Or

؟ יִנָּתְשׁ֗וּ

yin·nā·ṯə·šū,

will be forsaken ؟

מַ֛יִם

ma·yim

זָרִ֥ים

zā·rîm

for strange [waters]

קָרִ֖ים

qā·rîm

. נוֹזְלִֽים׃

nō·wz·lîm.

כִּֽי־

kî-

שְׁכֵחֻ֥נִי

šə·ḵê·ḥu·nî

have forgotten Me

עַמִּ֖י

‘am·mî

､ לַשָּׁ֣וְא

laš·šāw

to worthless idols ､

יְקַטֵּ֑רוּ

yə·qaṭ·ṭê·rū;

they have burned incense

וַיַּכְשִׁל֤וּם

way·yaḵ·ši·lūm

and they have caused themselves to stumble

בְּדַרְכֵיהֶם֙

bə·ḏar·ḵê·hem

､ שְׁבִילֵ֣י

šə·ḇî·lê

[From] the paths ､

עוֹלָ֔ם

‘ō·w·lām,

לָלֶ֣כֶת

lā·le·ḵeṯ

､ נְתִיב֔וֹת

nə·ṯî·ḇō·wṯ,

in paths ､

דֶּ֖רֶךְ

de·reḵ

לֹ֥א

lō

and not

– סְלוּלָֽה׃

sə·lū·lāh.

on a highway –

לָשׂ֥וּם

lā·śūm

אַרְצָ֛ם

’ar·ṣām

､ לְשַׁמָּ֖ה

lə·šam·māh

[שרוקת]

šə·rū·qaṯ

-

– (שְׁרִיק֣וֹת‪‬)

šə·rî·qō·wṯ

[and] a hissing –

עוֹלָ֑ם

‘ō·w·lām;

כֹּ֚ל

kōl

עוֹבֵ֣ר

‘ō·w·ḇêr

עָלֶ֔יהָ

‘ā·le·hā,

by it

､ יִשֹּׁ֖ם

yiš·šōm

will be astonished ､

וְיָנִ֥יד

wə·yā·nîḏ

. בְּרֹאשֽׁוֹ׃

bə·rō·šōw.

כְּרֽוּחַ־

kə·rū·aḥ-

As with wind

קָדִ֥ים

qā·ḏîm

אֲפִיצֵ֖ם

’ă·p̄î·ṣêm

I will scatter them

לִפְנֵ֣י

lip̄·nê

– אוֹיֵ֑ב

’ō·w·yêḇ;

the enemy –

､ עֹ֧רֶף

‘ō·rep̄

the back ､

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

and not

､ פָנִ֛ים

p̄ā·nîm

the face ､

אֶרְאֵ֖ם

’er·’êm

I will show them

בְּי֥וֹם

bə·yō·wm

in the day

. אֵידָֽם׃

’ê·ḏām.

of their calamity .

and let us devise

מַחֲשָׁבוֹת֒

כִּי֩

לֹא־

not

תֹאבַ֨ד

ṯō·ḇaḏ

תּוֹרָ֜ה

tō·w·rāh

the law

､ מִכֹּהֵ֗ן

mik·kō·hên,

from the priest ､

וְעֵצָה֙

wə·‘ê·ṣāh

､ מֵֽחָכָ֔ם

mê·ḥā·ḵām,

from the wise ､

וְדָבָ֖ר

wə·ḏā·ḇār

. מִנָּבִ֑יא

min·nā·ḇî;

from the prophet .

､ לְכוּ֙

lə·ḵū

Come ､

וְנַכֵּ֣הוּ

wə·nak·kê·hū

and let us attack him

､ בַלָּשׁ֔וֹן

ḇal·lā·šō·wn,

with the tongue ､

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

and not

נַקְשִׁ֖יבָה

naq·šî·ḇāh

let us give heed

אֶל־

’el-

to

כָּל־

kāl-

. דְּבָרָֽיו׃

də·ḇā·rāw.

הַקְשִׁ֥יבָה

haq·šî·ḇāh

､ יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

אֵלָ֑י

’ê·lāy;

to me

וּשְׁמַ֖ע

ū·šə·ma‘

לְק֥וֹל

lə·qō·wl

to the voice

. יְרִיבָֽי׃

yə·rî·ḇāy.

of those who contend with me .

הַיְשֻׁלַּ֤ם

hay·šul·lam

Shall be repaid

תַּֽחַת־

ta·ḥaṯ-

؟ טוֹבָה֙

ṭō·w·ḇāh

רָעָ֔ה

rā·‘āh,

כִּֽי־

kî-

כָר֥וּ

ḵā·rū

שׁוּחָ֖ה

šū·ḥāh

. לְנַפְשִׁ֑י

lə·nap̄·šî;

זְכֹ֣ר ׀

zə·ḵōr

עָמְדִ֣י

‘ā·mə·ḏî

לְפָנֶ֗יךָ

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā,

לְדַבֵּ֤ר

lə·ḏab·bêr

עֲלֵיהֶם֙

‘ă·lê·hem

טוֹבָ֔ה

ṭō·w·ḇāh,

לְהָשִׁ֥יב

lə·hā·šîḇ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

חֲמָתְךָ֖

ḥă·mā·ṯə·ḵā

. מֵהֶֽם׃

לָכֵן֩

תֵּ֨ן

､ לָרָעָ֗ב

to the famine ､

וְהַגִּרֵם֮

and pour out their [blood]

עַל־

‘al-

by

יְדֵי־

yə·ḏê-

– חֶרֶב֒

ḥe·reḇ

of the sword –

וְתִֽהְיֶ֨נָה

wə·ṯih·ye·nāh

and let [become]

נְשֵׁיהֶ֤ם

nə·šê·hem

､ שַׁכֻּלוֹת֙

šak·ku·lō·wṯ

bereaved of their children ､

– וְאַלְמָנ֔וֹת

wə·’al·mā·nō·wṯ,

and widows –

וְאַ֨נְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם

wə·’an·šê·hem,

יִֽהְי֖וּ

yih·yū

let be

הֲרֻ֣גֵי

hă·ru·ḡê

put to

– מָ֑וֶת

mā·weṯ;

בַּח֣וּרֵיהֶ֔ם

ba·ḥū·rê·hem,

their young men

מֻכֵּי־

muk·kê-

[be] slain by

חֶ֖רֶב

ḥe·reḇ

. בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

bam·mil·ḥā·māh.

תִּשָּׁמַ֤ע

tiš·šā·ma‘

זְעָקָה֙

zə·‘ā·qāh

､ מִבָּ֣תֵּיהֶ֔ם

mib·bāt·tê·hem,

from their houses ､

כִּֽי־

kî-

תָבִ֧יא

ṯā·ḇî

עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם

‘ă·lê·hem

גְּד֖וּד

gə·ḏūḏ

פִּתְאֹ֑ם

piṯ·’ōm;

כִּֽי־

כָר֤וּ

[שיחה]

לְלָכְדֵ֔נִי

to take me

. לְרַגְלָֽי׃

lə·raḡ·lāy.

וְאַתָּ֣ה

kāl-

עֲצָתָ֤ם

עָלַי֙

‘ā·lay

which is against me

לַמָּ֔וֶת

lam·mā·weṯ,

to slay [me]

אַל־

’al-

no

תְּכַפֵּר֙

tə·ḵap·pêr

Provide atonement

עַל־

‘al-

､ עֲוֺנָ֔ם

‘ă·wō·nām,

their iniquity ､

וְחַטָּאתָ֖ם

wə·ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯām

､ מִלְּפָנֶ֣יךָ

mil·lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā

from Your sight ､

אַל־

’al-

תֶּ֑מְחִי

tem·ḥî;

[והיו]

wə·hā·yū

-

(וְיִהְי֤וּ)

wə·yih·yū

but let them be

מֻכְשָׁלִים֙

muḵ·šā·lîm

לְפָנֶ֔יךָ

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā,

בְּעֵ֥ת

bə·‘êṯ

in the time

. אַפְּךָ֖

’ap·pə·ḵā

of Your anger .

עֲשֵׂ֥ה
