of the kings

､ יְהוּדָ֣ה

yə·hū·ḏāh

of Judah ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

עַצְמוֹת־

‘aṣ·mō·wṯ-

､ שָׂרָיו֩

śā·rāw

of its princes ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

עַצְמ֨וֹת

‘aṣ·mō·wṯ

､ הַכֹּהֲנִ֜ים

hak·kō·hă·nîm

of the priests ､

וְאֵ֣ת ׀

wə·’êṯ

and

עַצְמ֣וֹת

‘aṣ·mō·wṯ

､ הַנְּבִיאִ֗ים

han·nə·ḇî·’îm,

of the prophets ､

וְאֵ֛ת

wə·’êṯ

and

עַצְמ֥וֹת

‘aṣ·mō·wṯ

יוֹשְׁבֵֽי־

yō·wō·šə·ḇê-

of the inhabitants

､ יְרוּשָׁלִָ֖ם

yə·rū·šā·lim

of Jerusalem ､

. מִקִּבְרֵיהֶֽם׃

miq·qiḇ·rê·hem.

out of their graves .

וּשְׁטָחוּם֩

ū·šə·ṭā·ḥūm

And they shall spread them

､ לַשֶּׁ֨מֶשׁ

laš·še·meš

before the sun ､

､ וְלַיָּרֵ֜חַ

wə·lay·yā·rê·aḥ

and the moon ､

וּלְכֹ֣ל ׀

ū·lə·ḵōl

and all

צְבָ֣א

ṣə·ḇā

the host

､ הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim,

of heaven ､

אֲשֶׁ֨ר

’ă·šer

､ אֲהֵב֜וּם

’ă·hê·ḇūm

they have loved ､

וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר

wa·’ă·šer

､ עֲבָדוּם֙

‘ă·ḇā·ḏūm

they have served ､

וַֽאֲשֶׁר֙

wa·’ă·šer

､ הָלְכ֣וּ

hā·lə·ḵū

they have walked ､

אַֽחֲרֵיהֶ֔ם

’a·ḥă·rê·hem,

וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר

wa·’ă·šer

､ דְּרָשׁ֔וּם

də·rā·šūm,

they have sought ､

וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר

wa·’ă·šer

. הִֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּ

hiš·ta·ḥă·wū

they have worshiped .

לָהֶ֑ם

lā·hem;

To

לֹ֤א

not

､ יֵאָֽסְפוּ֙

yê·’ā·sə·p̄ū

they shall be gathered ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

– יִקָּבֵ֔רוּ

yiq·qā·ḇê·rū,

לְדֹ֛מֶן

lə·ḏō·men

עַל־

‘al-

on

פְּנֵ֥י

pə·nê

the face

הָאֲדָמָ֖ה

hā·’ă·ḏā·māh

of the earth

. יִֽהְיֽוּ׃

yih·yū.

they shall be .

וְנִבְחַ֥ר

wə·niḇ·ḥar

And shall be chosen

מָ֙וֶת֙

mā·weṯ

מֵֽחַיִּ֔ים

mê·ḥay·yîm,

rather than life

לְכֹ֗ל

lə·ḵōl,

by all

הַשְּׁאֵרִית֙

haš·šə·’ê·rîṯ

הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֔ים

han·niš·’ā·rîm,

of those who remain

מִן־

min-

of

､ הַמִּשְׁפָּחָ֥ה

ham·miš·pā·ḥāh

הָֽרָעָ֖ה

hā·rā·‘āh

הַזֹּ֑את

haz·zōṯ;

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

in all

הַמְּקֹמ֤וֹת

ham·mə·qō·mō·wṯ

הַנִּשְׁאָרִים֙

han·niš·’ā·rîm

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

הִדַּחְתִּ֣ים

hid·daḥ·tîm

I have driven them

שָׁ֔ם

šām,

נְאֻ֖ם

nə·’um

יְהוָ֥ה

Yah·weh

. צְבָאֽוֹת׃

ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ.

of hosts .

וְאָמַרְתָּ֣

wə·’ā·mar·tā

Moreover you shall say

אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם

’ă·lê·hem,

כֹּ֚ה

kōh

אָמַ֣ר

’ā·mar

– יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

､ הֲיִפְּל֖וּ

hă·yip·pə·lū

will they fall ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and not

؟ יָק֑וּמוּ

yā·qū·mū;

אִם־

’im-

lo

､ יָשׁ֖וּב

yā·šūḇ

will one turn away ､

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

and not

؟ יָשֽׁוּב׃

yā·šūḇ.

מַדּ֨וּעַ

mad·dū·a‘

שׁוֹבְבָ֜ה

šō·wḇ·ḇāh

has slidden back

הָעָ֥ם

hā·‘ām

הַזֶּ֛ה

haz·zeh

יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם

yə·rū·šā·lim

؟ מְשֻׁבָ֣ה

mə·šu·ḇāh

in a backsliding ؟

נִצַּ֑חַת

niṣ·ṣa·ḥaṯ;

הֶחֱזִ֙יקוּ֙

he·ḥĕ·zî·qū

､ בַּתַּרְמִ֔ית

bat·tar·mîṯ,

to deceit ､

מֵאֲנ֖וּ

mê·’ă·nū

. לָשֽׁוּב׃

lā·šūḇ.

הִקְשַׁ֤בְתִּי

hiq·šaḇ·tî

､ וָֽאֶשְׁמָע֙

wā·’eš·mā‘

and heard ､

לוֹא־

lō·w-

not

– כֵ֣ן

ḵên

יְדַבֵּ֔רוּ

yə·ḏab·bê·rū,

[But] they do speak

אֵ֣ין

’ên

אִ֗ישׁ

’îš,

נִחָם֙

ni·ḥām

עַל־

‘al-

of

､ רָ֣עָת֔וֹ

rā·‘ā·ṯōw,

his wickedness ､

､ לֵאמֹ֖ר

lê·mōr

מֶ֣ה

meh

؟ עָשִׂ֑יתִי

‘ā·śî·ṯî;

כֻּלֹּ֗ה

kul·lōh,

שָׁ֚ב

ḇ

[במרצותם]

bim·ru·ṣō·w·ṯām

-

､ (בִּמְר֣וּצָתָ֔ם)

bim·rū·ṣā·ṯām,

to his own course ､

כְּס֥וּס

kə·sūs

as the horse

שׁוֹטֵ֖ף

šō·w·ṭêp̄

. בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

bam·mil·ḥā·māh.

into the battle .

､ גַּם־

gam-

Even ､

חֲסִידָ֣ה

ḥă·sî·ḏāh

בַשָּׁמַ֗יִם

ḇaš·šā·ma·yim,

in the heavens

יָֽדְעָה֙

yā·ḏə·‘āh

– מֽוֹעֲדֶ֔יהָ

mō·w·‘ă·ḏe·hā,

her appointed times –

וְתֹ֤ר

wə·ṯōr

and the turtledove

[וסוס]

wə·sūs

-

(וְסִיס֙)

wə·sîs

וְעָג֔וּר

wə·‘ā·ḡūr,

and the swallow

שָׁמְר֖וּ

šā·mə·rū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

עֵ֣ת

‘êṯ

the time

– בֹּאָ֑נָה

bō·’ā·nāh;

of their coming –

וְעַמִּ֕י

wə·‘am·mî

but My people

לֹ֣א

lō

not

יָֽדְע֔וּ

yā·ḏə·‘ū,

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

מִשְׁפַּ֥ט

miš·paṭ

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

אֵיכָ֤ה

’ê·ḵāh

､ תֹֽאמְרוּ֙

ṯō·mə·rū

can you say ､

､ חֲכָמִ֣ים

ḥă·ḵā·mîm

wise ､

אֲנַ֔חְנוּ

’ă·naḥ·nū,

we [are]

וְתוֹרַ֥ת

wə·ṯō·w·raṯ

and the law

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

אִתָּ֑נוּ

’it·tā·nū;

[is] with us

אָכֵן֙

’ā·ḵên

､ הִנֵּ֣ה

hin·nêh

Look ､

לַשֶּׁ֣קֶר

laš·še·qer

עָשָׂ֔ה

‘ā·śāh,

עֵ֖ט

‘êṭ

the pen

שֶׁ֥קֶר

še·qer

. סֹפְרִֽים׃

sō·p̄ə·rîm.

the scribe .

､ הֹבִ֣ישׁוּ

hō·ḇî·šū

Are ashamed ､

חֲכָמִ֔ים

ḥă·ḵā·mîm,

חַ֖תּוּ

ḥat·tū

they are dismayed

– וַיִּלָּכֵ֑דוּ

way·yil·lā·ḵê·ḏū;

and taken –

､ הִנֵּ֤ה

hin·nêh

בִדְבַר־

ḇiḏ·ḇar-

the word

– יְהוָה֙

Yah·weh

of Yahweh –

מָאָ֔סוּ

mā·’ā·sū,

they have rejected

וְחָכְמַֽת־

wə·ḥā·ḵə·maṯ-

מֶ֖ה

meh

. לָהֶֽם׃

lā·hem.

לָכֵן֩

lā·ḵên

אֶתֵּ֨ן

’et·tên

I will give

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

נְשֵׁיהֶ֜ם

nə·šê·hem

､ לַאֲחֵרִ֗ים

la·’ă·ḥê·rîm,

to others ､

שְׂדֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙

śə·ḏō·w·ṯê·hem

[And] their fields

לְי֣וֹרְשִׁ֔ים

lə·yō·wr·šîm,

to those who will inherit [them]

כִּ֤י

kî

מִקָּטֹן֙

miq·qā·ṭōn

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

and even to

גָּד֔וֹל

gā·ḏō·wl,

כֻּלֹּ֖ה

kul·lōh

בֹּצֵ֣עַ

bō·ṣê·a‘

is given to

､ בָּ֑צַע

bā·ṣa‘;

covetousness ､

מִנָּבִיא֙

min·nā·ḇî

from the prophet

וְעַד־

wə·‘aḏ-

and even to

כֹּהֵ֔ן

kō·hên,

כֻּלֹּ֖ה

kul·lōh

עֹ֥שֶׂה

‘ō·śeh

. שָּֽׁקֶר׃

šā·qer.

וַיְרַפּ֞וּ

way·rap·pū

For they have healed

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

שֶׁ֤בֶר

še·ḇer

the hurt

בַּת־

baṯ-

of the daughter

עַמִּי֙

‘am·mî

of My people

עַל־

‘al-

､ נְקַלָּ֔ה

nə·qal·lāh,

､ לֵאמֹ֖ר

lê·mōr

､ שָׁל֣וֹם ׀

šā·lō·wm

– שָׁל֑וֹם

šā·lō·wm;

וְאֵ֖ין

wə·’ên

and when [there is] no

. שָׁלֽוֹם׃

šā·lō·wm.

הֹבִ֕שׁוּ

hō·ḇi·šū

Were they ashamed

כִּ֥י

kî

؟ תוֹעֵבָ֖ה

ṯō·w·‘ê·ḇāh

עָשׂ֑וּ

‘ā·śū;

they had committed

､ גַּם־

gam-

not ､

בּ֣וֹשׁ

bō·wōš

at all

לֹֽא־

lō-

､ יֵבֹ֗שׁוּ

yê·ḇō·šū,

they were not ashamed ､

– וְהִכָּלֵם֙

wə·hik·kā·lêm

and to blush –

לֹ֣א

lō

יָדָ֔עוּ

yā·ḏā·‘ū,

did they know how

לָכֵ֞ן

lā·ḵên

יִפְּל֣וּ

yip·pə·lū

they shall fall

– בַנֹּפְלִ֗ים

ḇan·nō·p̄ə·lîm,

among those who fall –

בְּעֵ֧ת

bə·‘êṯ

in the time

פְּקֻדָּתָ֛ם

pə·qud·dā·ṯām

of their punishment

､ יִכָּשְׁל֖וּ

yik·kā·šə·lū

they shall be cast down ､

אָמַ֥ר

’ā·mar

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

I will consume them

נְאֻם־

יְהֹוָ֑ה

､ בַּגֶּ֜פֶן

bag·ge·p̄en

on the vine ､

וְאֵ֧ין

wə·’ên

and no

תְּאֵנִ֣ים

tə·’ê·nîm

､ בַּתְּאֵנָ֗ה

bat·tə·’ê·nāh,

on the fig tree ､

וְהֶֽעָלֶה֙

wə·he·‘ā·leh

and the leaf

– נָבֵ֔ל

nā·ḇêl,

וָאֶתֵּ֥ן

wā·’et·tên

and [the things] I have given

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

. יַעַבְרֽוּם׃

ya·‘aḇ·rūm.

shall pass away from them .

עַל־

‘al-

מָה֙

māh

אֲנַ֣חְנוּ

’ă·naḥ·nū

we

יֹֽשְׁבִ֔ים

yō·šə·ḇîm,

､ הֵֽאָסְפ֗וּ

hê·’ā·sə·p̄ū,

Assemble yourselves ､

וְנָב֛וֹא

wə·nā·ḇō·w

and let us enter

אֶל־

’el-

､ עָרֵ֥י

‘ā·rê

הַמִּבְצָ֖ר

ham·miḇ·ṣār

וְנִדְּמָה־

wə·nid·də·māh-

and let us be silent

､ שָּׁ֑ם

šām;

כִּי֩

kî

יְהוָ֨ה

Yah·weh

אֱלֹהֵ֤ינוּ

’ĕ·lō·hê·nū

､ הֲדִמָּ֙נוּ֙

hă·ḏim·mā·nū

has put us to silence ､

､ וַיַּשְׁקֵ֣נוּ

way·yaš·qê·nū

and given us to drink ､

מֵי־

mê-

רֹ֔אשׁ

rōš,

כִּ֥י

kî

חָטָ֖אנוּ

ḥā·ṭā·nū

. לַיהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

against Yahweh .

קַוֵּ֥ה

qaw·wêh

､ לְשָׁל֖וֹם

וְאֵ֣ין

but no

לְעֵ֥ת

and for a time

of health ､

וְהִנֵּ֥ה

! בְעָתָֽה׃

מִדָּ֤ן

mid·dān

נִשְׁמַע֙

niš·ma‘

נַחְרַ֣ת

naḥ·raṯ

סוּסָ֗יו

sū·sāw,

מִקּוֹל֙

miq·qō·wl

at the sound

מִצְהֲל֣וֹת

miṣ·hă·lō·wṯ

of the neighing

– אַבִּירָ֔יו

’ab·bî·rāw,

of His mighty ones –

רָעֲשָׁ֖ה

rā·‘ă·šāh

כָּל־

kāl-

הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

､ וַיָּב֗וֹאוּ

way·yā·ḇō·w·’ū,

for they have come ､

וַיֹּֽאכְלוּ֙

way·yō·ḵə·lū

､ אֶ֣רֶץ

’e·reṣ

the land ､

וּמְלוֹאָ֔הּ

ū·mə·lō·w·’āh,

and all that is in it

､ עִ֖יר

‘îr

the city ､

וְיֹ֥שְׁבֵי

wə·yō·šə·ḇê

and those who dwell

. בָֽהּ׃

ḇāh.

in it .

For ､

הִנְנִ֨י

hin·nî

מְשַׁלֵּ֜חַ

mə·šal·lê·aḥ

will send

בָּכֶ֗ם

bā·ḵem,

､ נְחָשִׁים֙

nə·ḥā·šîm

､ צִפְעֹנִ֔ים

ṣip̄·‘ō·nîm,

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

אֵין־

’ên-

[can] not

לָהֶ֖ם

lā·hem

to

､ לָ֑חַשׁ

lā·ḥaš;

be charmed ､

וְנִשְּׁכ֥וּ

wə·niš·šə·ḵū

and they shall bite

אֶתְכֶ֖ם

’eṯ·ḵem

נְאֻם־

nə·’um-

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

Jeremiah Weeps for his People

מַבְלִ֥יגִיתִ֖י

maḇ·lî·ḡî·ṯî

I [would] comfort myself

עֲלֵ֣י

‘ă·lê

in

､ יָג֑וֹן

yā·ḡō·wn;

עָלַ֖י

‘ā·lay

in me

לִבִּ֥י

lib·bî

My heart [is]

. דַוָּֽי׃

ḏaw·wāy.

הִנֵּה־

hin·nêh-

ק֞וֹל

שַֽׁוְעַ֣ת

šaw·‘aṯ

the cry

בַּת־

baṯ-

of the daughter

עַמִּ֗י

‘am·mî,

of my people

– מֵאֶ֙רֶץ֙

mê·’e·reṣ

from –

מַרְחַקִּ֔ים

mar·ḥaq·qîm,

הַֽיהוָה֙

Yah·weh

אֵ֣ין

’ên

[Is] not

؟ בְּצִיּ֔וֹן

bə·ṣî·yō·wn,

in Zion ؟

אִם־

’im-

lo

מַלְכָּ֖הּ

mal·kāh

אֵ֣ין

’ên

[Is] not

בָּ֑הּ

bāh;

in her

מַדּ֗וּעַ

mad·dū·a‘,

הִכְעִס֛וּנִי

hiḵ·‘i·sū·nî

have they provoked Me to anger

､ בִּפְסִלֵיהֶ֖ם

bip̄·si·lê·hem

with their carved images ､

בְּהַבְלֵ֥י

bə·haḇ·lê

with idols

؟ נֵכָֽר׃

nê·ḵār.

､ עָבַ֥ר

‘ā·ḇar

is past ､

קָצִ֖יר

qā·ṣîr

､ כָּ֣לָה

kā·lāh

is ended ､

קָ֑יִץ

qā·yiṣ;

וַאֲנַ֖חְנוּ

wa·’ă·naḥ·nū

and we

ל֥וֹא

lō·w

not

. נוֹשָֽׁעְנוּ׃

nō·wō·šā·‘ə·nū.

עַל־

‘al-

שֶׁ֥בֶר

še·ḇer

the hurt

בַּת־

baṯ-

of the daughter

עַמִּ֖י

‘am·mî

of my people

– הָשְׁבָּ֑רְתִּי

hā·šə·bā·rə·tî;

I am hurt –

– קָדַ֕רְתִּי

qā·ḏar·tî

I am mourning –

שַׁמָּ֖ה

šam·māh

. הֶחֱזִקָֽתְנִי׃

he·ḥĕ·zi·qā·ṯə·nî.

has taken hold of me .

הַצֳרִי֙

ha·ṣo·rî

אֵ֣ין

’ên

[Is there] no

– בְּגִלְעָ֔ד

bə·ḡil·‘āḏ,

in Gilead –

אִם־

’im-

רֹפֵ֖א

rō·p̄ê

אֵ֣ין

[Is there] no

؟ שָׁ֑ם

מַדּ֙וּעַ֙

there is recovery ؟

of the daughter
