וַיַּ֥עַן

way·ya·‘an

אִיּ֗וֹב

’î·yō·wḇ,

､ וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

way·yō·mar.

and said ､

אָ֭מְנָם

’ā·mə·nām

כִּ֣י

kî

אַתֶּם־

’at·tem-

､ עָ֑ם

‘ām;

the people ､

וְ֝עִמָּכֶ֗ם

wə·‘im·mā·ḵem,

and with you

תָּמ֥וּת

tā·mūṯ

will die

. חָכְמָֽה׃

ḥāḵ·māh

גַּם־

gam-

But

לִ֤י

lî

לֵבָ֨ב ׀

lê·ḇāḇ

– כְּֽמוֹכֶ֗ם

kə·mō·w·ḵem,

as well as you –

לֹא־

lō-

not

נֹפֵ֣ל

nō·p̄êl

אָנֹכִ֣י

’ā·nō·ḵî

I [am]

מִכֶּ֑ם

mik·kem;

to you

､ וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and indeed ､

מִי־

mî-

אֵ֥ין

’ên

does not [know]

כְּמוֹ־

kə·mōw-

؟ אֵֽלֶּה׃

’êl·leh.

as these ؟

שְׂחֹ֤ק

śə·ḥōq

､ לְרֵעֵ֨הוּ ׀

lə·rê·‘ê·hū

by his friends ､

אֶֽהְיֶ֗ה

’eh·yeh,

I am

קֹרֵ֣א

qō·rê

､ לֶ֭אֱלוֹהַּ

le·’ĕ·lō·w·ah

on God ､

וַֽיַּעֲנֵ֑הוּ

way·ya·‘ă·nê·hū;

and He answered him

שְׂ֝ח֗וֹק

ḥō·wq,

[who is] ridiculed

צַדִּ֥יק

ṣad·dîq

the just

. תָּמִֽים׃

tā·mîm.

and blameless .

לַפִּ֣יד

lap·pîḏ

בּ֭וּז

būz

לְעַשְׁתּ֣וּת

lə·‘aš·tūṯ

in the thought

. שַׁאֲנָ֑ן

ša·’ă·nān;

of one who is at ease .

נָ֝כ֗וֹן

nā·ḵō·wn,

[it is] made ready

לְמ֣וֹעֲדֵי

lə·mō·w·‘ă·ḏê

for those whose slip

. רָֽגֶל׃

rā·ḡel.

､ יִשְׁלָ֤יוּ

yiš·lā·yū

אֹֽהָלִ֨ים ׀

’ō·hā·lîm

לְשֹׁ֥דְדִ֗ים

lə·šō·ḏə·ḏîm,

– וּֽ֭בַטֻּחוֹת

ū·ḇaṭ·ṭu·ḥō·wṯ

and are secure –

לְמַרְגִּ֣יזֵי

lə·mar·gî·zê

those who provoke

אֵ֑ל

’êl;

לַאֲשֶׁ֤ר

la·’ă·šer

הֵבִ֖יא

hê·ḇî

אֱל֣וֹהַּ

’ĕ·lō·w·ah

. בְּיָדֽוֹ׃

bə·yā·ḏōw.

וְֽאוּלָ֗ם

wə·’ū·lām,

But

שְׁאַל־

šə·’al-

נָ֣א

nā

､ בְהֵמ֣וֹת

ḇə·hê·mō·wṯ

the beasts ､

וְתֹרֶ֑ךָּ

wə·ṯō·re·kā;

and they will teach you

וְע֥וֹף

wə·‘ō·wp̄

and the birds

､ הַ֝שָּׁמַ֗יִם

haš·šā·ma·yim,

of the air ､

וְיַגֶּד־

wə·yag·geḏ-

and they will tell

. לָֽךְ׃

lāḵ.

א֤וֹ

’ōw

Or

שִׂ֣יחַ

śî·aḥ

､ לָאָ֣רֶץ

lā·’ā·reṣ

to the earth ､

וְתֹרֶ֑ךָּ

wə·ṯō·re·kā;

and it will teach you

וִֽיסַפְּר֥וּ

wî·sap·pə·rū

and will explain

לְ֝ךָ֗

lə·ḵā,

to you

דְּגֵ֣י

də·ḡê

the fish

. הַיָּֽם׃

hay·yām.

of the sea .

יָדַ֣ע

בְּכָל־

bə·ḵāl

אֵ֑לֶּה

כִּ֥י

יַד־

the hand of

יְ֝הוָה

עָ֣שְׂתָה

‘ā·śə·ṯāh

؟ זֹּֽאת׃

zōṯ.

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

בְּ֭יָדוֹ

bə·yā·ḏōw

in hand [is]

נֶ֣פֶשׁ

ne·p̄eš

the life

כָּל־

kāl-

､ חָ֑י

ḥāy;

living thing ､

וְ֝ר֗וּחַ

wə·rū·aḥ,

and the breath

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

בְּשַׂר־

bə·śar-

. אִֽישׁ׃

’îš.

הֲלֹא־

hă·lō-

Does not

אֹ֭זֶן

’ō·zen

the ear

؟ מִלִּ֣ין

mil·lîn

תִּבְחָ֑ן

tiḇ·ḥān;

וְ֝חֵ֗ךְ

wə·ḥêḵ,

and the mouth

؟ אֹ֣כֶל

’ō·ḵel

יִטְעַם־

yiṭ·‘am-

. לֽוֹ׃

lōw.

בִּֽישִׁישִׁ֥ים

bî·šî·šîm

– חָכְמָ֑ה

ḥāḵ·māh

Wisdom [is] –

וְאֹ֖רֶךְ

wə·’ō·reḵ

and with length

יָמִ֣ים

yā·mîm

. תְּבוּנָֽה׃

tə·ḇū·nāh.

understanding .

עִ֭מּוֹ

‘im·mōw

With Him

חָכְמָ֣ה

ḥāḵ·māh

､ וּגְבוּרָ֑ה

ū·ḡə·ḇū·rāh;

and strength ､

ל֝֗וֹ

lōw,

He

עֵצָ֥ה

‘ê·ṣāh

. וּתְבוּנָֽה׃

ū·ṯə·ḇū·nāh.

and understanding .

､ הֵ֣ן

hên

If ､

､ יַ֭הֲרוֹס

ya·hă·rō·ws

He breaks [a thing] down ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

– יִבָּנֶ֑ה

yib·bā·neh;

it be rebuilt –

יִסְגֹּ֥ר

yis·gōr

[If] He imprisons

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ אִ֝֗ישׁ

’îš,

a man ､

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and no

. יִפָּתֵֽחַ׃

yip·pā·ṯê·aḥ.

there can be release .

､ הֵ֤ן

hên

If ､

יַעְצֹ֣ר

ya‘·ṣōr

､ בַּמַּ֣יִם

bam·ma·yim

the waters ､

– וְיִבָ֑שׁוּ

wə·yi·ḇā·šū;

and they dry up –

､ וִֽ֝ישַׁלְּחֵ֗ם

wî·šal·lə·ḥêm,

[If] He sends them out ､

וְיַ֖הַפְכוּ

wə·ya·hap̄·ḵū

and they overwhelm

. אָֽרֶץ׃

’ā·reṣ.

the earth .

עִ֭מּוֹ

‘im·mōw

With Him [are]

עֹ֣ז

‘ōz

– וְתֽוּשִׁיָּ֑ה‪‬

wə·ṯū·šî·yāh;

and prudence –

ל֝֗וֹ

lōw,

שֹׁגֵ֥ג

šō·ḡêḡ

. וּמַשְׁגֶּֽה׃

ū·maš·geh.

and the deceiver .

מוֹלִ֣יךְ

mō·w·lîḵ

יוֹעֲצִ֣ים

yō·w·‘ă·ṣîm

､ שׁוֹלָ֑ל

šō·w·lāl;

וְֽשֹׁפְטִ֥ים

wə·šō·p̄ə·ṭîm

and the judges

. יְהוֹלֵֽל׃

yə·hō·w·lêl.

makes fools of .

מוּסַ֣ר

mū·sar

､ מְלָכִ֣ים

mə·lā·ḵîm

of kings ､

פִּתֵּ֑חַ

pit·tê·aḥ;

וַיֶּאְסֹ֥ר

way·ye’·sōr

אֵ֝ז֗וֹר

’ê·zō·wr,

with a belt

. בְּמָתְנֵיהֶֽם׃

bə·mā·ṯə·nê·hem.

מוֹלִ֣יךְ

mō·w·lîḵ

כֹּהֲנִ֣ים

kō·hă·nîm

､ שׁוֹלָ֑ל

šō·w·lāl;

וְאֵֽתָנִ֣ים

wə·’ê·ṯā·nîm

and the strength

. יְסַלֵּֽף׃

yə·sal·lêp̄.

מֵסִ֣יר

mê·sîr

שָׂ֭פָה

p̄āh

､ לְנֶאֱמָנִ֑ים

lə·ne·’ĕ·mā·nîm;

the trusted ones ､

וְטַ֖עַם

wə·ṭa·‘am

and the discernment

זְקֵנִ֣ים

zə·qê·nîm

of the elders

. יִקָּֽח׃

yiq·qāḥ.

שׁוֹפֵ֣ךְ

šō·w·p̄êḵ

בּ֭וּז

būz

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ נְדִיבִ֑ים

nə·ḏî·ḇîm;

וּמְזִ֖יחַ

ū·mə·zî·aḥ

and the

אֲפִיקִ֣ים

’ă·p̄î·qîm

. רִפָּֽה׃

rip·pāh.

מְגַלֶּ֣ה

mə·ḡal·leh

עֲ֭מֻקוֹת

‘ă·mu·qō·wṯ

מִנִּי־

min·nî-

､ חֹ֑שֶׁךְ

ḥō·šeḵ;

of darkness ､

וַיֹּצֵ֖א

way·yō·ṣê

לָא֣וֹר

lā·’ō·wr

. צַלְמָֽוֶת׃

ṣal·mā·weṯ.

the shadow of death .

מַשְׂגִּ֣יא

maś·gî

､ לַ֭גּוֹיִם

lag·gō·w·yim

וַֽיְאַבְּדֵ֑ם

way·’ab·bə·ḏêm;

and destroys them

שֹׁטֵ֥חַ

šō·ṭê·aḥ

､ לַ֝גּוֹיִ֗ם

lag·gō·w·yim,

. וַיַּנְחֵֽם׃

way·yan·ḥêm.

and guides them .

מֵסִ֗יר

mê·sîr,

לֵ֭ב

lêḇ

the understanding

רָאשֵׁ֣י

rā·šê

of the chiefs

עַם־

‘am-

of the people

､ הָאָ֑רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ;

of the earth ､

וַ֝יַּתְעֵ֗ם

way·yaṯ·‘êm,

and makes them wander

בְּתֹ֣הוּ

bə·ṯō·hū

in a wilderness

לֹא־

lō-

not

. דָֽרֶךְ׃

ḏā·reḵ.

יְמַֽשְׁשׁוּ־

yə·maš·šū-

חֹ֥שֶׁךְ

ḥō·šeḵ

in the dark

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

､ א֑וֹר

’ō·wr;

וַ֝יַּתְעֵ֗ם

way·yaṯ·‘êm,

and He makes them stagger

. כַּשִּׁכּֽוֹר׃

kaš·šik·kō·wr.

like a drunken [man] .
