with my eyes –

וּמָ֥ה

אֶ֝תְבּוֹנֵ֗ן

’eṯ·bō·w·nên,

עַל־

‘al-

؟ בְּתוּלָֽה׃

bə·ṯū·lāh.

a young woman ؟

וּמֶ֤ה ׀

ū·meh

חֵ֣לֶק

ḥê·leq

אֱל֣וֹהַּ

’ĕ·lō·w·ah

of God

؟ מִמָּ֑עַל

mim·mā·‘al;

וְֽנַחֲלַ֥ת

wə·na·ḥă·laṯ

and the inheritance of

שַׁ֝דַּ֗י

day,

؟ מִמְּרֹמִֽים׃

mim·mə·rō·mîm.

from on high ؟

הֲלֹא־

hă·lō-

[Is] it not

אֵ֥יד

’êḏ

؟ לְעַוָּ֑ל

lə·‘aw·wāl;

for the wicked ؟

וְ֝נֵ֗כֶר

לְפֹ֣עֲלֵי

lə·p̄ō·‘ă·lê

for the workers

؟ אָֽוֶן׃

הָלַ֥כְתִּי

､ שָׁ֑וְא

וַתַּ֖חַשׁ

Or if has hastened

עַל־

‘al-

to

– מִרְמָ֣ה

mir·māh

. רַגְלִֽי׃

raḡ·lî.

my foot .

יִשְׁקְלֵ֥נִי

yiš·qə·lê·nî

Let me be weighed

､ בְמֹאזְנֵי־

ḇə·mō·zə·nê-

on scales ､

צֶ֑דֶק

ṣe·ḏeq;

וְיֵדַ֥ע

wə·yê·ḏa‘

אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ

. תֻּמָּתִֽי׃

tum·mā·ṯî.

אַשֻּׁרִי֮

､ הַ֫דָּ֥רֶךְ

the way ､

､ עֵ֭ינַי

my eyes ､

הָלַ֣ךְ

לִבִּ֑י

– וּ֝בְכַפַּ֗י

Or if to my hands –

[Then] let me sow ､

וְאַחֵ֣ר

wə·ṣe·’ĕ·ṣā·’ay

and Yes my harvest

. יְשֹׁרָֽשׁוּ׃

yə·šō·rā·šū.

let be rooted out .

has been enticed

לִ֭בִּי

､ אִשָּׁ֑ה

רֵעִ֣י

. אָרָֽבְתִּי׃

’ā·rā·ḇə·tî.

I have lurked .

תִּטְחַ֣ן

tiṭ·ḥan

[Then] let grind

､ לְאַחֵ֣ר

lə·’a·ḥêr

for another ､

אִשְׁתִּ֑י

’iš·tî;

וְ֝עָלֶ֗יהָ

wə·‘ā·le·hā,

יִכְרְע֥וּן

yiḵ·rə·‘ūn

. אֲחֵרִֽין׃

’ă·ḥê·rîn.

כִּי־

kî-

[הוא]

[והיא]

that [would be]

עַד־

‘aḏ-

to

､ אֲבַדּ֣וֹן

destruction ､

תֹּאכֵ֑ל

tō·ḵêl;

[that] consumes

וּֽבְכָל־

ū·ḇə·ḵāl

and all

תְּב֖וּאָתִ֣י

tə·ḇū·’ā·ṯî

. תְשָׁרֵֽשׁ׃

ṯə·šā·rêš.

would root out .

אִם־

’im-

If

אֶמְאַ֗ס

’em·’as,

I have despised

מִשְׁפַּ֣ט

miš·paṭ

עַ֭בְדִּי

‘aḇ·dî

of my male

､ וַאֲמָתִ֑י

wa·’ă·mā·ṯî;

or maidservant ､

בְּ֝רִבָ֗ם

bə·ri·ḇām,

when they complained

. עִמָּדִֽי׃

‘im·mā·ḏî.

וּמָ֣ה

ū·māh

אֶֽ֭עֱשֶׂה

’e·‘ĕ·śeh

shall I do

כִּֽי־

kî-

؟ יָק֣וּם

yā·qūm

rises up ؟

אֵ֑ל

’êl;

וְכִֽי־

wə·ḵî-

and when

､ יִ֝פְקֹ֗ד

yip̄·qōḏ,

He punishes ､

מָ֣ה

māh

. אֲשִׁיבֶֽנּוּ׃

’ă·šî·ḇen·nū.

shall I answer Him .

הֲ‍ֽ֝לֹא־

Did not

in the womb

עֹשֵׂ֣נִי

‘ō·śê·nî

He who made me

עָשָׂ֑הוּ

‘ā·śā·hū;

וַ֝יְכֻנֶ֗נּוּ

way·ḵu·nen·nū,

and did not fashion us

בָּרֶ֥חֶם

bā·re·ḥem

in the womb

؟ אֶחָֽד׃

’e·ḥāḏ.

[the same] one ؟

אִם־

if

אֶ֭מְנַע

’em·na‘

､ מֵחֵ֣פֶץ

mê·ḥê·p̄eṣ

from [their] desire ､

דַּלִּ֑ים

dal·lîm;

the poor

וְעֵינֵ֖י

wə·‘ê·nê

Or the eyes

אַלְמָנָ֣ה

’al·mā·nāh

of the widow

– אֲכַלֶּֽה׃

’ă·ḵal·leh.

caused to fail –

וְאֹכַ֣ל

wə·’ō·ḵal

פִּתִּ֣י

pit·tî

､ לְבַדִּ֑י

lə·ḇad·dî;

by myself ､

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

so that not

אָכַ֖ל

’ā·ḵal

יָת֣וֹם

yā·ṯō·wm

– מִמֶּֽנָּה׃

mim·men·nāh.

of it –

כִּ֣י

מִ֭נְּעוּרַי

min·nə·‘ū·ray

גְּדֵלַ֣נִי

gə·ḏê·la·nî

､ כְאָ֑ב

ḵə·’āḇ;

as a father ､

וּמִבֶּ֖טֶן

ū·mib·be·ṭen

אִמִּ֣י

’im·mî

of my mother

. אַנְחֶֽנָּה׃

’an·ḥen·nāh.

I guided [the widow] .

אִם־

If

אֶרְאֶ֣ה

’er·’eh

א֭וֹבֵד

’ō·w·ḇêḏ

מִבְּלִ֣י

mib·bə·lî

､ לְב֑וּשׁ

lə·ḇūš;

of clothing ､

וְאֵ֥ין

wə·’ên

– כְּ֝ס֗וּת

kə·sūṯ,

. לָאֶבְיֽוֹן׃

lā·’eḇ·yō·wn.

any poor [man] .

אִם־

’im-

If

לֹ֣א

not

בֵרֲכ֣וּנִי

ḇê·ră·ḵū·nî

[חלצו]

ḥă·lā·ṣōw

(חֲלָצָ֑יו)

ḥă·lā·ṣāw;

וּמִגֵּ֥ז

ū·mig·gêz

and [if] with the fleece

– כְּ֝בָשַׂי

kə·ḇā·śay

of my sheep –

. יִתְחַמָּֽם׃

yiṯ·ḥam·mām.

he was [not] warmed .

אִם־

If

הֲנִיפ֣וֹתִי

hă·nî·p̄ō·w·ṯî

עַל־

‘al-

､ יָת֣וֹם

yā·ṯō·wm

the fatherless ､

יָדִ֑י

yā·ḏî;

כִּֽי־

אֶרְאֶ֥ה

’er·’eh

､ בַ֝שַּׁ֗עַר

ḇaš·ša·‘ar,

in the gate ､

. עֶזְרָתִֽי׃

‘ez·rā·ṯî.

כְּ֭תֵפִי

My arm

､ מִשִּׁכְמָ֣ה

miš·šiḵ·māh

from my shoulder ､

תִפּ֑וֹל

ṯip·pō·wl;

[Then] let fall

וְ֝אֶזְרֹעִ֗י

wə·’ez·rō·‘î,

and my arm

מִקָּנָ֥ה

miq·qā·nāh

from the socket

. תִשָּׁבֵֽר׃

ṯiš·šā·ḇêr.

כִּ֤י

kî

פַ֣חַד

p̄a·ḥaḏ

[is] a terror

אֵ֭לַי

’ê·lay

to me

אֵ֣יד

’êḏ

אֵ֑ל

’êl;

וּ֝מִשְּׂאֵת֗וֹ

ū·miś·śə·’ê·ṯōw,

and because of His magnificence

לֹ֣א

lō

. אוּכָֽל׃

’ū·ḵāl.

אִם־

’im-

If

שַׂ֣מְתִּי

śam·tî

זָהָ֣ב

zā·hāḇ

､ כִּסְלִ֑י

kis·lî;

my hope ､

､ וְ֝לַכֶּ֗תֶם

wə·lak·ke·ṯem,

Or to fine gold ､

אָמַ֥רְתִּי

’ā·mar·tî

– מִבְטַחִֽי׃

miḇ·ṭa·ḥî.

[You are] my confidence –

אִם־

if

אֶ֭שְׂמַח

’eś·maḥ

I have rejoiced

כִּי־

kî-

､ רַ֣ב

raḇ

חֵילִ֑י

ḥê·lî;

my wealth [was]

וְכִֽי־

wə·ḵî-

– כַ֝בִּ֗יר

ḵab·bîr,

much –

מָצְאָ֥ה

mā·ṣə·’āh

. יָדִֽי׃

yā·ḏî.

my hand .

אִם־

’im-

If

אֶרְאֶ֣ה

’er·’eh

I have observed

א֖וֹר

’ō·wr

the sun

כִּ֣י

kî

､ יָהֵ֑ל

yā·hêl;

it shines ､

וְ֝יָרֵ֗חַ

wə·yā·rê·aḥ,

Or the moon

– יָקָ֥ר

yā·qār

[in] brightness –

. הֹלֵֽךְ׃

hō·lêḵ.

､ וַיִּ֣פְתְּ

way·yip̄t

So that has been enticed ､

בַּסֵּ֣תֶר

bas·sê·ṯer

לִבִּ֑י

lib·bî;

וַתִּשַּׁ֖ק

wat·tiš·šaq

– יָדִ֣י

yā·ḏî

my hand –

. לְפִֽי׃

lə·p̄î.

my mouth .

גַּם־

gam-

ה֭וּא

hū

that [would be]

עָוֺ֣ן

‘ā·wōn

an iniquity [deserving of]

､ פְּלִילִ֑י

pə·lî·lî;

כִּֽי־

kî-

כִחַ֖שְׁתִּי

ḵi·ḥaš·tî

I would have denied

לָאֵ֣ל

lā·’êl

. מִמָּֽעַל׃

mim·mā·‘al.

[who is] above .

אִם־

’im-

If

אֶ֭שְׂמַח

’eś·maḥ

I have rejoiced

בְּפִ֣יד

bə·p̄îḏ

at the destruction

מְשַׂנְאִ֑י

mə·śan·’î;

of him who hated me

וְ֝הִתְעֹרַ֗רְתִּי

wə·hiṯ·‘ō·rar·tî,

Or lifted up myself

כִּֽי־

kî-

מְצָ֥אוֹ

mə·ṣā·’ōw

. רָֽע׃

וְלֹא־

And indeed not

נָתַ֣תִּי

nā·ṯat·tî

לַחֲטֹ֣א

la·ḥă·ṭō

to sin

חִכִּ֑י

לִשְׁאֹ֖ל

בְּאָלָ֣ה

bə·’ā·lāh

. נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃

the men

אָהֳלִ֑י

of my tent

. נִשְׂבָּֽע׃

דְּ֝לָתַ֗י

to the traveler

. אֶפְתָּֽח׃

[For] I have opened .

as Adam ､

פְּשָׁעָ֑י

my transgressions

לִטְמ֖וֹן

､ בְּחֻבִּ֣י

bə·ḥub·bî

in my bosom ､

. עֲוֺֽנִי׃

‘ă·wō·nî.

כִּ֤י

kî

אֶֽעֱר֨וֹץ ׀

’e·‘ĕ·rō·wṣ

､ הָ֘מ֤וֹן

hā·mō·wn

the multitude ､

רַבָּ֗ה

rab·bāh,

וּבוּז־

ū·ḇūz-

and the contempt

מִשְׁפָּח֥וֹת

miš·pā·ḥō·wṯ

יְחִתֵּ֑נִי

yə·ḥit·tê·nî;

､ וָ֝אֶדֹּ֗ם

wā·’ed·dōm,

so that I kept silence ､

לֹא־

lō-

not

אֵ֥צֵא

’ê·ṣê

[And] did go out

؟ פָֽתַח׃

p̄ā·ṯaḥ.

of the door ؟

יִתֶּן־

לִ֨י ׀

[Oh that] the Almighty

יַעֲנֵ֑נִי

would answer me

אִ֣ישׁ

. רִיבִֽי׃

my shoulder ､

אֶשָּׂאֶ֑נּוּ

[And] bind it

עֲטָר֣וֹת

‘ă·ṭā·rō·wṯ

of my steps –

אַגִּידֶ֑נּוּ

I would declare to Him

כְּמוֹ־

נָ֝גִ֗יד

. אֲקָרֲבֶֽנּוּ׃

’ă·qā·ră·ḇen·nū.

I would approach Him .

אִם־

If

עָ֭לַי

‘ā·lay

אַדְמָתִ֣י

’aḏ·mā·ṯî

תִזְעָ֑ק

ṯiz·‘āq;

וְ֝יַ֗חַד

wə·ya·ḥaḏ,

תְּלָמֶ֥יהָ

tə·lā·me·hā

– יִבְכָּיֽוּן׃

yiḇ·kā·yūn.

weep –

אִם־

if

כֹּ֭חָהּ

kō·ḥāh

אָכַ֣לְתִּי

’ā·ḵal·tî

בְלִי־

ḇə·lî-

､ כָ֑סֶף

､ וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ

Or their lives ､

בְּעָלֶ֣יהָ

bə·‘ā·le·hā

. הִפָּֽחְתִּי׃

hip·pā·ḥə·tî.

caused to lose .

תַּ֤חַת

ta·ḥaṯ

､ חִטָּ֨ה ׀

ḥiṭ·ṭāh

of wheat ､

[Then] let grow

ח֗וֹחַ
