Bildad: Job Should Repent

וַ֭יַּעַן

way·ya·‘an

בִּלְדַּ֥ד

bil·daḏ

､ הַשּׁוּחִ֗י

haš·šū·ḥî,

the Shuhite ､

､ וַיֹאמַֽר׃‪‬

wa·yō·mar

and said ､

עַד־

‘aḏ-

אָ֥ן

’ān

תְּמַלֶּל־

tə·mal·lel-

אֵ֑לֶּה

’êl·leh;

؟ וְר֥וּחַ

wə·rū·aḥ

and a wind ؟

כַּ֝בִּיר

kab·bîr

אִמְרֵי־

’im·rê-

. פִֽיךָ׃

p̄î·ḵā.

of your mouth [be like] .

הַ֭אֵל

ha·’êl

יְעַוֵּ֣ת

yə·‘aw·wêṯ

؟ מִשְׁפָּ֑ט

miš·pāṭ;

וְאִם־

wə·’i·mō·ša-

Or

שַׁ֝דַּ֗י

day,

יְעַוֵּֽת־

yə·‘aw·wêṯ-

؟ צֶֽדֶק׃

ṣe·ḏeq.

אִם־

’im-

if

בָּנֶ֥יךָ

bā·ne·ḵā

חָֽטְאוּ־

ḥā·ṭə·’ū-

ל֑וֹ

lōw;

וַֽ֝יְשַׁלְּחֵ֗ם

way·šal·lə·ḥêm,

and He has cast them away

בְּיַד־

bə·yaḏ-

– פִּשְׁעָֽם׃

piš·‘ām.

their transgression –

אִם־

’im-

if

אַ֭תָּה

’at·tāh

תְּשַׁחֵ֣ר

tə·ša·ḥêr

would earnestly seek

אֶל־

’el-

אֵ֑ל

’êl;

וְאֶל־

wə·’e·lō·ša-

and to

– שַׁ֝דַּ֗י

day,

the Almighty –

. תִּתְחַנָּֽן׃

tiṯ·ḥan·nān.

make your supplication .

אִם־

’im-

If

זַ֥ךְ

zaḵ

– וְיָשָׁ֗ר

wə·yā·šār,

and upright –

אָ֥תָּה

’āt·tāh

כִּי־

kî-

עַ֭תָּה

‘at·tāh

יָעִ֣יר

yā·‘îr

עָלֶ֑יךָ

‘ā·le·ḵā;

וְ֝שִׁלַּ֗ם

wə·šil·lam,

נְוַ֣ת

nə·waṯ

. צִדְקֶֽךָ׃

ṣiḏ·qe·ḵā.

your rightful .

וְהָיָ֣ה

wə·hā·yāh

רֵאשִׁיתְךָ֣

rê·šî·ṯə·ḵā

､ מִצְעָ֑ר

miṣ·‘ār;

וְ֝אַחֲרִיתְךָ֗

wə·’a·ḥă·rî·ṯə·ḵā,

and yet your latter end

יִשְׂגֶּ֥ה

yiś·geh

. מְאֹֽד׃

mə·’ōḏ.

כִּֽי־

kî-

､ שְׁאַל־

šə·’al-

､ נָ֭א

nā

､ לְדֹ֣ר

lə·ḏōr

and of the age ､

רִישׁ֑וֹן

rî·šō·wn;

וְ֝כוֹנֵ֗ן

wə·ḵō·w·nên,

לְחֵ֣קֶר

lə·ḥê·qer

The things discovered by

. אֲבוֹתָֽם׃

’ă·ḇō·w·ṯām.

their fathers .

כִּֽי־

kî-

､ תְמ֣וֹל

ṯə·mō·wl

אֲ֭נַחְנוּ

’ă·naḥ·nū

､ וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and nothing ､

נֵדָ֑ע

nê·ḏā‘;

כִּ֤י

kî

צֵ֖ל

ṣêl

יָמֵ֣ינוּ

yā·mê·nū

עֲלֵי־

‘ă·lê-

on

. אָֽרֶץ׃

’ā·reṣ.

הֲלֹא־

hă·lō-

Will not

הֵ֣ם

hêm

י֭וֹרוּךָ

yō·w·rū·ḵā

יֹ֣אמְרוּ

yō·mə·rū

and tell

לָ֑ךְ

lāḵ;

؟ וּ֝מִלִּבָּ֗ם

ū·mil·lib·bām,

and from their heart ؟

יוֹצִ֥אוּ

yō·w·ṣi·’ū

. מִלִּֽים׃

mil·lîm.

הֲיִֽגְאֶה־

hă·yiḡ·’eh-

גֹּ֭מֶא

gō·me

בְּלֹ֣א

bə·lō

؟ בִצָּ֑ה

ḇiṣ·ṣāh;

a marsh ؟

יִשְׂגֶּה־

yiś·geh-

אָ֥חוּ

’ā·ḥū

בְלִי־

ḇə·lî-

؟ מָֽיִם׃

mā·yim.

עֹדֶ֣נּוּ

‘ō·ḏen·nū

while it [is] yet

､ בְ֭אִבּוֹ

ḇə·’ib·bōw

לֹ֣א

lō

[and] not

､ יִקָּטֵ֑ף

yiq·qā·ṭêp̄;

וְלִפְנֵ֖י

wə·lip̄·nê

כָל־

ḵāl

חָצִ֣יר

ḥā·ṣîr

. יִיבָֽשׁ׃

yî·ḇāš.

כֵּ֗ן

kên,

So

אָ֭רְחוֹת

’ā·rə·ḥō·wṯ

[are] the paths

כָּל־

kāl-

of all

שֹׁ֣כְחֵי

šō·ḵə·ḥê

– אֵ֑ל

’êl;

God –

וְתִקְוַ֖ת

wə·ṯiq·waṯ

and the hope

חָנֵ֣ף

ḥā·nêp̄

of the hypocrite

､ תֹּאבֵֽד׃

tō·ḇêḏ.

shall perish ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

､ יָק֥וֹט

yā·qō·wṭ

shall be cut off ､

כִּסְל֑וֹ

kis·lōw;

וּבֵ֥ית

ū·ḇêṯ

and a web

עַ֝כָּבִ֗ישׁ

‘ak·kā·ḇîš,

. מִבְטַחֽוֹ׃

miḇ·ṭa·ḥōw.

whose trust [is] .

יִשָּׁעֵ֣ן

yiš·šā·‘ên

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ בֵּ֭יתוֹ

bê·ṯōw

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

but not

– יַעֲמֹ֑ד

ya·‘ă·mōḏ;

it does stand –

､ יַחֲזִ֥יק

ya·ḥă·zîq

He holds fast ､

בּ֝֗וֹ

bōw,

it

וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

but not

. יָקֽוּם׃

yā·qūm.

it does endure .

רָטֹ֣ב

rā·ṭōḇ

ה֭וּא

hū

He

לִפְנֵי־

lip̄·nê-

in

､ שָׁ֑מֶשׁ

šā·meš;

the sun ､

וְעַ֥ל

wə·‘al

and in

גַּ֝נָּת֗וֹ

gan·nā·ṯōw,

יֹֽנַקְתּ֥וֹ

yō·naq·tōw

. תֵצֵֽא׃

ṯê·ṣê.

עַל־

‘al-

､ גַּ֭ל

gal

the rock heap ､

שָֽׁרָשָׁ֣יו

šā·rā·šāw

יְסֻבָּ֑כוּ

yə·sub·bā·ḵū;

בֵּ֖ית

bêṯ

a place in

אֲבָנִ֣ים

’ă·ḇā·nîm

. יֶחֱזֶֽה׃

ye·ḥĕ·zeh.

[And] look for .

אִם־

’im-

If

יְבַלְּעֶ֥נּוּ

yə·ḇal·lə·‘en·nū

he is destroyed

､ מִמְּקוֹמ֑וֹ

mim·mə·qō·w·mōw;

from his place ､

וְכִ֥חֶשׁ

wə·ḵi·ḥeš

and [it] will deny

בּ֝֗וֹ

bōw,

לֹ֣א

lō

[saying] not

. רְאִיתִֽיךָ׃

rə·’î·ṯî·ḵā.

I have seen you .

､ הֶן־

hen-

ה֭וּא

hū

that [is]

מְשׂ֣וֹשׂ

mə·śō·wś

the joy

､ דַּרְכּ֑וֹ

dar·kōw;

of His way ､

וּ֝מֵעָפָ֗ר

ū·mê·‘ā·p̄ār,

and out of the earth

אַחֵ֥ר

’a·ḥêr

. יִצְמָֽחוּ׃

yiṣ·mā·ḥū.

will grow .

､ הֶן־

hen-

אֵ֭ל

’êl

לֹ֣א

lō

not

יִמְאַס־

yim·’as-

תָּ֑ם

tām;

וְלֹֽא־

wə·lō-

יַ֝חֲזִ֗יק

ya·ḥă·zîq,

will He uphold

בְּיַד־

bə·yaḏ-

-

. מְרֵעִֽים׃

mə·rê·‘îm.

the evildoers .

עַד־

‘aḏ-

יְמַלֵּ֣ה

yə·mal·lêh

He will fill

､ שְׂח֣וֹק

śə·ḥō·wq

with laughing ､

פִּ֑יךָ

pî·ḵā;

וּשְׂפָתֶ֥יךָ

ū·śə·p̄ā·ṯe·ḵā

. תְרוּעָֽה׃

ṯə·rū·‘āh.

with rejoicing .

שֹׂנְאֶ֥יךָ

śō·nə·’e·ḵā

Those who hate you

יִלְבְּשׁוּ־

yil·bə·šū-

will be clothed

– בֹ֑שֶׁת

ḇō·šeṯ;

with shame –

וְאֹ֖הֶל

wə·’ō·hel

and the dwelling place

רְשָׁעִ֣ים

rə·šā·‘îm

of the wicked

. אֵינֶֽנּוּ׃

’ê·nen·nū.

will come to nothing .
