of Yahweh –

וַיִּתְּנֵ֧ם

and delivered them

of the Philistines

and his wife [was]

､ עֲקָרָ֖ה

וְלֹ֥א

and no

. יָלָֽדָה׃

וַיֵּרָ֥א

יְהוָ֖ה

､ הָאִשָּׁ֑ה

the woman ､

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

and said

אֵלֶ֗יהָ

to her

הִנֵּה־

now ､

אַתְּ־

’at-

､ עֲקָרָה֙

‘ă·qā·rāh

– וְלֹ֣א

wə·lō

and no –

יָלַ֔דְתְּ

yā·laḏt,

have borne children

､ וְהָרִ֖ית

wə·hā·rîṯ

but you shall conceive ､

וְיָלַ֥דְתְּ

wə·yā·laḏt

and bear

. בֵּֽן׃

bên.

a son .

וְעַתָּה֙

wə·‘at·tāh

､ הִשָּׁ֣מְרִי

hiš·šā·mə·rî

be careful ､

､ נָ֔א

nā,

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

and not

תִּשְׁתִּ֖י

tiš·tî

יַ֣יִן

ya·yin

､ וְשֵׁכָ֑ר

wə·šê·ḵār;

or strong drink ､

וְאַל־

wə·’al-

and not

תֹּאכְלִ֖י

to eat

the womb –

and he

יָחֵ֛ל

לְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ

’eṯ-

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

מִיַּ֥ד

mî·yaḏ

out of the hand

. פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃

of the Philistines .

וַתָּבֹ֣א

wat·tā·ḇō

הָאִשָּׁ֗ה

hā·’iš·šāh,

וַתֹּ֣אמֶר

wat·tō·mer

and told

､ לְאִישָׁהּ֮

lə·’î·šāh

her husband ､

､ לֵאמֹר֒

lê·mōr

אִ֤ישׁ

’îš

הָאֱלֹהִים֙

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

בָּ֣א

bā

אֵלַ֔י

’ê·lay,

to me

וּמַרְאֵ֕הוּ

ū·mar·’ê·hū

and His countenance [was]

כְּמַרְאֵ֛ה

kə·mar·’êh

like the countenance

מַלְאַ֥ךְ

mal·’aḵ

of the Angel

､ הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God ､

. נוֹרָ֣א

nō·w·rā

מְאֹ֑ד

mə·’ōḏ;

וְלֹ֤א

wə·lō

but not

שְׁאִלְתִּ֙יהוּ֙

šə·’il·tî·hū

אֵֽי־

’ê-

מִזֶּ֣ה

miz·zeh

from this [place]

He [was]

and said ､

､ אֲדוֹנָ֔י

my Lord ､

אִ֣ישׁ

’îš

the Man

הָאֱלֹהִ֞ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

שָׁלַ֗חְתָּ

šā·laḥ·tā,

יָבוֹא־

yā·ḇō·w-

נָ֥א

nā

עוֹד֙

‘ō·wḏ

אֵלֵ֔ינוּ

’ê·lê·nū,

to us

וְיוֹרֵ֕נוּ

wə·yō·w·rê·nū

and teach us

מַֽה־

mah-

נַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה

na·‘ă·śeh

we shall do

לַנַּ֥עַר

lan·na·‘ar

. הַיּוּלָּֽד׃

hay·yūl·lāḏ.

who will be born .

וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע

way·yiš·ma‘

הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

בְּק֣וֹל

bə·qō·wl

to the voice

– מָנ֑וֹחַ

mā·nō·w·aḥ;

of Manoah –

וַיָּבֹ֣א

way·yā·ḇō

and came

מַלְאַךְ֩

mal·’aḵ

הָאֱלֹהִ֨ים

hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm

of God

ע֜וֹד

‘ō·wḏ

אֶל־

’el-

to

הָאִשָּׁ֗ה

hā·’iš·šāh,

וְהִיא֙

wə·hî

and as she

יוֹשֶׁ֣בֶת

yō·wō·še·ḇeṯ

､ בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה

baś·śā·ḏeh,

in the field ､

וּמָנ֥וֹחַ

ū·mā·nō·w·aḥ

but Manoah [was]

אִישָׁ֖הּ

’î·šāh

אֵ֥ין

’ên

not

. עִמָּֽהּ׃

‘im·māh.

with her .

､ וַתְּמַהֵר֙

wat·tə·ma·hêr

And in haste ､

､ הָֽאִשָּׁ֔ה

hā·’iš·šāh,

the woman ､

､ וַתָּ֖רָץ

wat·tā·rāṣ

and ran ､

וַתַּגֵּ֣ד

wat·tag·gêḏ

and told

לְאִישָׁ֑הּ

lə·’î·šāh;

וַתֹּ֣אמֶר

wat·tō·mer

and said

אֵלָ֔יו

’ê·lāw,

to him

､ הִנֵּ֨ה

hin·nêh

Look ､

נִרְאָ֤ה

nir·’āh

has just now appeared

אֵלַי֙

’ê·lay

to me

הָאִ֔ישׁ

hā·’îš,

the Man

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

בָּ֥א

bā

בַיּ֖וֹם

ḇay·yō·wm

the [other] day

. אֵלָֽי׃

’ê·lāy.

to me .

､ וַיָּ֛קָם

way·yā·qām

So arose ､

וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ

way·yê·leḵ

מָנ֖וֹחַ

mā·nō·w·aḥ

אַחֲרֵ֣י

’a·ḥă·rê

､ אִשְׁתּ֑וֹ

’iš·tōw;

וַיָּבֹא֙

way·yā·ḇō

and when he came

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הָאִ֔ישׁ

hā·’îš,

the Man ､

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and he said

ל֗וֹ

lōw,

to Him

הַאַתָּ֥ה

ha·’at·tāh

הָאִ֛ישׁ

hā·’îš

the Man

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

דִּבַּ֥רְתָּ

dib·bar·tā

אֶל־

’el-

to

؟ הָאִשָּׁ֖ה

hā·’iš·šāh

the woman ؟

､ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and He said ､

. אָֽנִי׃

’ā·nî.

I [am] .

､ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said ､

מָנ֔וֹחַ

mā·nō·w·aḥ,

עַתָּ֖ה

‘at·tāh

. יָבֹ֣א

yā·ḇō

let come [to pass] .

דְבָרֶ֑יךָ

ḏə·ḇā·re·ḵā;

מַה־

mah-

יִּֽהְיֶ֥ה

yih·yeh

will be

מִשְׁפַּט־

miš·paṭ-

､ הַנַּ֖עַר

han·na·‘ar

of the boy ､

. וּמַעֲשֵֽׂהוּ׃

ū·ma·‘ă·śê·hū.

and his work .

וַיֹּ֛אמֶר

way·yō·mer

מַלְאַ֥ךְ

mal·’aḵ

the Angel of

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ מָנ֑וֹחַ

mā·nō·w·aḥ;

מִכֹּ֛ל

mik·kōl

of all

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

אָמַ֥רְתִּי

’ā·mar·tî

אֶל־

’el-

to

הָאִשָּׁ֖ה

hā·’iš·šāh

. תִּשָּׁמֵֽר׃

tiš·šā·mêr.

let her be careful .

מִכֹּ֣ל

mik·kōl

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

יֵצֵא֩

yê·ṣê

､ מִגֶּ֨פֶן

mig·ge·p̄en

from the vine ､

הַיַּ֜יִן

hay·ya·yin

לֹ֣א

lō

not

תֹאכַ֗ל

ṯō·ḵal,

וְיַ֤יִן

wə·ya·yin

and wine

､ וְשֵׁכָר֙

wə·šê·ḵār

nor may she drink ､

אַל־

’al-

or

תֵּ֔שְׁתְּ

tê·šət,

[similar] drink

וְכָל־

wə·ḵāl

טֻמְאָ֖ה

ṭum·’āh

אַל־

’al-

תֹּאכַ֑ל

tō·ḵal;

כֹּ֥ל

kōl

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

צִוִּיתִ֖יהָ

ṣiw·wî·ṯî·hā

I commanded her

. תִּשְׁמֹֽר׃

tiš·mōr.

let her observe .

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

מָנ֖וֹחַ

mā·nō·w·aḥ

אֶל־

’el-

to

מַלְאַ֣ךְ

mal·’aḵ

､ יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

of Yahweh ､

נַעְצְרָה־

na‘·ṣə·rāh-

､ נָּ֣א

nā

אוֹתָ֔ךְ

’ō·w·ṯāḵ,

וְנַעֲשֶׂ֥ה

wə·na·‘ă·śeh

and we will prepare

לְפָנֶ֖יךָ

lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā

גְּדִ֥י

gə·ḏî

. עִזִּֽים׃

‘iz·zîm.

וַיֹּאמֶר֩

way·yō·mer

And said

מַלְאַ֨ךְ

mal·’aḵ

יְהוָ֜ה

Yah·weh

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ מָנ֗וֹחַ

mā·nō·w·aḥ,

אִם־

’im-

תַּעְצְרֵ֙נִי֙

ta‘·ṣə·rê·nî

לֹא־

lō-

not

אֹכַ֣ל

’ō·ḵal

I will eat

､ בְּלַחְמֶ֔ךָ

bə·laḥ·me·ḵā,

of your food ､

וְאִם־

wə·’im-

but if

תַּעֲשֶׂ֣ה

ta·‘ă·śeh

､ עֹלָ֔ה

‘ō·lāh,

a burnt offering ､

. לַיהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

תַּעֲלֶ֑נָּה

ta·‘ă·len·nāh;

You must offer it

יָדַ֣ע

מָנ֔וֹחַ

mā·nō·w·aḥ,

מַלְאַ֥ךְ

He [was] .

And said

mal·’aḵ

､ יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

of Yahweh ､

מִ֣י

mî

who [is]

､ שְׁמֶ֑ךָ

šə·me·ḵā;

כִּֽי־

kî-

יָבֹ֥א

yā·ḇō

[דבריך]

ḏiḇ·rê·ḵā

(דְבָרְךָ֖)

ḏə·ḇā·rə·ḵā

؟ וְכִבַּדְנֽוּךָ׃

wə·ḵib·baḏ·nū·ḵā.

and we may honor You ؟

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and said

לּוֹ֙‪‬‪‬

to him

מַלְאַ֣ךְ

mal·’aḵ

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

לָ֥מָּה

lām·māh

זֶּ֖ה

zeh

[is] this

תִּשְׁאַ֣ל

tiš·’al

､ לִשְׁמִ֑י

liš·mî;

My name ､

וְהוּא־

wə·hū-

and [seeing] it [is]

؟ פֶ֛לִאי׃‪‬‪‬

הָעִזִּים֙

wə·’eṯ-

and with

､ הַמִּנְחָ֔ה

ham·min·ḥāh,

the grain offering ､

וַיַּ֥עַל

way·ya·‘al

and offered it

עַל־

‘al-

הַצּ֖וּר

haṣ·ṣūr

the rock

､ לַֽיהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

to Yahweh ､

– וּמַפְלִ֣א

ū·map̄·li

and a wondrous thing –

לַעֲשׂ֔וֹת

la·‘ă·śō·wṯ,

He did

וּמָנ֥וֹחַ

ū·mā·nō·w·aḥ

and while Manoah

וְאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ

wə·’iš·tōw

. רֹאִֽים׃

rō·’îm.

､ וַיְהִי֩

way·hî

And it came to pass ､

בַעֲל֨וֹת

ḇa·‘ă·lō·wṯ

as went up

הַלַּ֜הַב

hal·la·haḇ

מֵעַ֤ל

mê·‘al

､ הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙

ham·miz·bê·aḥ

the altar ､

הַשָּׁמַ֔יְמָה

haš·šā·may·māh,

וַיַּ֥עַל

way·ya·‘al

מַלְאַךְ־

mal·’aḵ-

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

בְּלַ֣הַב

bə·la·haḇ

in the flame

. הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ;

of the altar .

וּמָנ֤וֹחַ

ū·mā·nō·w·aḥ

And when Manoah

וְאִשְׁתּוֹ֙

wə·’iš·tōw

רֹאִ֔ים

rō·’îm,

וַיִּפְּל֥וּ

way·yip·pə·lū

עַל־

‘al-

on

פְּנֵיהֶ֖ם

pə·nê·hem

. אָֽרְצָה׃

’ā·rə·ṣāh.

to the ground .

וְלֹא־

wə·lō-

And when no

יָ֤סַף

עוֹד֙

‘ō·wḏ

מַלְאַ֣ךְ

mal·’aḵ

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

לְהֵרָאֹ֖ה

וְאֶל־

and

. אִשְׁתּ֑וֹ

’iš·tōw;

אָ֚ז

יָדַ֣ע

מָנ֔וֹחַ

mā·nō·w·aḥ,

כִּֽי־

kî-

מַלְאַ֥ךְ

mal·’aḵ

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

. הֽוּא׃

He [was] .

And said

אֶל־

נָמ֑וּת

nā·mūṯ;

אֱלֹהִ֖ים

. רָאִֽינוּ׃

וַתֹּ֧אמֶר

wat·tō·mer

But said

ל֣וֹ

to him

אִשְׁתּ֗וֹ

לוּ֩

חָפֵ֨ץ

ḥā·p̄êṣ

יְהוָ֤ה

Yah·weh

לַהֲמִיתֵ֙נוּ֙

la·hă·mî·ṯê·nū

to kill us

לֹֽא־

lō-

not

לָקַ֤ח

lā·qaḥ

He would have accepted

､ מִיָּדֵ֙נוּ֙

mî·yā·ḏê·nū

from our hands ､

עֹלָ֣ה

‘ō·lāh

a burnt offering

וּמִנְחָ֔ה

ū·min·ḥāh,

and a grain offering

וְלֹ֥א

wə·lō

הֶרְאָ֖נוּ

her·’ā·nū

would He have shown us

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

כָּל־

kāl-

אֵ֑לֶּה

’êl·leh;

וְכָעֵ֕ת

wə·ḵā·‘êṯ

and at this time

לֹ֥א

lō

הִשְׁמִיעָ֖נוּ

hiš·mî·‘ā·nū

would He have told us [such things]

. כָּזֹֽאת׃

kā·zōṯ.

as this .

וַתֵּ֤לֶד

wat·tê·leḏ

הָֽאִשָּׁה֙

hā·’iš·šāh

､ בֵּ֔ן

bên,

a son ､

וַתִּקְרָ֥א

wat·tiq·rā

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

שְׁמ֖וֹ

šə·mōw

– שִׁמְשׁ֑וֹן

šim·šō·wn;

､ וַיִּגְדַּ֣ל

way·yiḡ·dal

and grew ､

הַנַּ֔עַר

han·na·‘ar,

וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּ

way·ḇā·rə·ḵê·hū

and blessed him

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

וַתָּ֙חֶל֙

wat·tā·ḥel

ר֣וּחַ

rū·aḥ

יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

לְפַעֲמ֖וֹ

lə·p̄a·‘ă·mōw

to move upon him

בְּמַחֲנֵה־

bə·ma·ḥă·nêh-

דָ֑ן

ḏān;

בֵּ֥ין

bên

צָרְעָ֖ה

ṣā·rə·‘āh

וּבֵ֥ין

ū·ḇên

and

. אֶשְׁתָּאֹֽל׃

’eš·tā·’ōl.
