And arose ､
אִישָׁ֜הּ

וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ

and went
אַחֲרֶ֗יהָ

לְדַבֵּ֤ר
lə·ḏab·bêr
עַל־
‘al-
to
לִבָּהּ֙
lib·bāh
[להשיבו]
la·hă·šî·ḇōw
-
､ (לַהֲשִׁיבָ֔הּ)
la·hă·šî·ḇāh,
[and] bring her back ､
וְנַעֲר֥וֹ
wə·na·‘ă·rōw
עִמּ֖וֹ
‘im·mōw
with him
וְצֶ֣מֶד
wə·ṣe·meḏ
and a couple
. חֲמֹרִ֑ים
ḥă·mō·rîm;
of donkeys .
וַתְּבִיאֵ֙הוּ֙

､ בֵּ֣ית

house ､
אָבִ֔יהָ
’ā·ḇî·hā,
וַיִּרְאֵ֙הוּ֙
way·yir·’ê·hū
אֲבִ֣י

the father
הַֽנַּעֲרָ֔ה

of the young woman
וַיִּשְׂמַ֖ח
way·yiś·maḥ
and he was glad
. לִקְרָאתֽוֹ׃

to meet him .

וַיֶּחֱזַק־

בּ֤וֹ
bōw
､ חֹֽתְנוֹ֙

､ אֲבִ֣י

father ､
הַֽנַּעֲרָ֔ה
han·na·‘ă·rāh,
of the young woman
וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב
way·yê·šeḇ
and he stayed
אִתּ֖וֹ
’it·tōw
with him
שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת
šə·lō·šeṯ
. יָמִ֑ים
yā·mîm;
וַיֹּאכְלוּ֙
way·yō·ḵə·lū
､ וַיִּשְׁתּ֔וּ
way·yiš·tū,
and drank ､
וַיָּלִ֖ינוּ
way·yā·lî·nū
and lodged
. שָֽׁם׃
šām.

And it came to pass

on the day ､
הָרְבִיעִ֔י

וַיַּשְׁכִּ֥ימוּ
way·yaš·kî·mū
､ בַבֹּ֖קֶר
ḇab·bō·qer
in the morning ､
וַיָּ֣קָם
way·yā·qām
and he stood
– לָלֶ֑כֶת
lā·le·ḵeṯ;
to depart –
וַיֹּאמֶר֩
way·yō·mer
but said
אֲבִ֨י
’ă·ḇî
הַֽנַּעֲרָ֜ה
han·na·‘ă·rāh
of the young woman
אֶל־
’el-
to
､ חֲתָנ֗וֹ
ḥă·ṯā·nōw,
סְעָ֧ד
sə·‘āḏ
לִבְּךָ֛
lib·bə·ḵā
פַּת־
paṯ-
with a morsel
､ לֶ֖חֶם
le·ḥem
of bread ､
וְאַחַ֥ר
wə·’a·ḥar
. תֵּלֵֽכוּ׃

So they sat down ､
וַיֹּאכְל֧וּ

and ate
שְׁנֵיהֶ֛ם

the two of them
– יַחְדָּ֖ו

וַיִּשְׁתּ֑וּ
way·yiš·tū;
and drank
וַיֹּ֜אמֶר
way·yō·mer
and said
אֲבִ֤י

הַֽנַּעֲרָה֙
han·na·‘ă·rāh
of the young woman
אֶל־
’el-
to
､ הָאִ֔ישׁ

the man ､
､ הֽוֹאֶל־

be content ､
､ נָ֥א

please ､
､ וְלִ֖ין

and to stay all night ､
וְיִטַ֥ב

and let be merry
. לִבֶּֽךָ׃

to depart ､
וַיִּפְצַר־

and urged

חֹתְנ֔וֹ
ḥō·ṯə·nōw,
וַיָּ֖שָׁב
way·yā·šāḇ
וַיָּ֥לֶן
way·yā·len
and he lodged
. שָֽׁם׃

And he arose early

in the morning

on the day
הַחֲמִישִׁי֮

– לָלֶכֶת֒

to depart –
､ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ׀

but said ､
אֲבִ֣י

הַֽנַּעֲרָ֗ה

of the young woman
סְעָד־
sə·‘āḏ-
. נָא֙

､ לְבָ֣בְךָ֔

וְהִֽתְמַהְמְה֖וּ
wə·hiṯ·mah·mə·hū
עַד־
‘aḏ-
נְט֣וֹת

､ הַיּ֑וֹם

וַיֹּאכְל֖וּ

and ate

so he rose

and departed ､
וַיָּבֹא֙

and came

､ יְב֔וּס

Jebus ､

that [is]
– יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם

and with him were
צֶ֤מֶד

חֲמוֹרִים֙

､ חֲבוּשִׁ֔ים

וּפִילַגְשׁ֖וֹ

וְנִקְרְבָ֖ה

and let us draw near
בְּאַחַ֣ד

to one
הַמְּקֹמ֑וֹת
ham·mə·qō·mō·wṯ;
､ וְלַ֥נּוּ
wə·lan·nū
and spend the night ､
､ בַגִּבְעָ֖ה

in Gibeah ､

And they passed by

to the donkeys –
וַֽיִּרְחֲצוּ֙

､ רַגְלֵיהֶ֔ם
raḡ·lê·hem,
וַיֹּאכְל֖וּ
way·yō·ḵə·lū
and ate
. וַיִּשְׁתּֽוּ׃

and drank .

and Humble
אוֹתָ֔ם
’ō·w·ṯām,
וַעֲשׂ֣וּ
wa·‘ă·śū
and do
לָהֶ֔ם
lā·hem,
with them
הַטּ֖וֹב
haṭ·ṭō·wḇ
בְּעֵינֵיכֶ֑ם
bə·‘ê·nê·ḵem;
וְלָאִ֤ישׁ
wə·lā·’îš
but to man
הַזֶּה֙
haz·zeh
לֹ֣א
lō
not
תַעֲשׂ֔וּ
ṯa·‘ă·śū,
do do
דְּבַ֖ר
də·ḇar
הַנְּבָלָ֥ה
han·nə·ḇā·lāh
. הַזֹּֽאת׃
haz·zōṯ.

הָאֲנָשִׁים֙

לִשְׁמֹ֣עַֽ

וַיַּחֲזֵ֤ק

so took
הָאִישׁ֙
hā·’îš
the man
､ בְּפִ֣ילַגְשׁ֔וֹ
bə·p̄î·laḡ·šōw,
וַיֹּצֵ֥א
way·yō·ṣê
אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם
’ă·lê·hem
to them
הַח֑וּץ
ha·ḥūṣ;
וַיֵּדְע֣וּ
way·yê·ḏə·‘ū
א֠וֹתָהּ
’ō·w·ṯāh
וַיִּֽתְעַלְּלוּ־
way·yiṯ·‘al·lə·lū-
and abused
בָ֤הּ
ḇāh
כָּל־
kāl-
הַלַּ֙יְלָה֙
hal·lay·lāh
עַד־
‘aḏ-
､ הַבֹּ֔קֶר
hab·bō·qer,
. וַֽיְשַׁלְּח֖וּהָ
way·šal·lə·ḥū·hā
and when they let her go .
[בעלות]

Began to break ､
. הַשָּֽׁחַר׃

הָאִשָּׁ֖ה

the woman
לִפְנ֣וֹת

､ הַבֹּ֑קֶר

the day ､
וַתִּפֹּ֞ל
wat·tip·pōl
פֶּ֧תַח
pe·ṯaḥ
at the door
בֵּית־
bêṯ-
הָאִ֛ישׁ
hā·’îš
of the man
אֲשֶׁר־
’ă·šer-
אֲדוֹנֶ֥יהָ
’ă·ḏō·w·ne·hā
שָּׁ֖ם
šām
עַד־
‘aḏ-
. הָאֽוֹר׃

it was light .

וַיָּ֨קָם
way·yā·qām
אֲדֹנֶ֜יהָ
’ă·ḏō·ne·hā
､ בַּבֹּ֗קֶר
bab·bō·qer,
in the morning ､
וַיִּפְתַּח֙
way·yip̄·taḥ
and opened
דַּלְת֣וֹת
dal·ṯō·wṯ
the doors
､ הַבַּ֔יִת
hab·ba·yiṯ,
of the house ､
וַיֵּצֵ֖א
way·yê·ṣê
and went out
לָלֶ֣כֶת
lā·le·ḵeṯ
to go
､ לְדַרְכּ֑וֹ
lə·ḏar·kōw;
his way ､
､ וְהִנֵּ֧ה
wə·hin·nêh
and there was ､
הָאִשָּׁ֣ה
hā·’iš·šāh
the women
פִֽילַגְשׁ֗וֹ
p̄î·laḡ·šōw,
נֹפֶ֙לֶת֙
nō·p̄e·leṯ
פֶּ֣תַח
pe·ṯaḥ
[at] the door
､ הַבַּ֔יִת
hab·ba·yiṯ,
of the house ､
וְיָדֶ֖יהָ
wə·yā·ḏe·hā
and with her hands
עַל־
‘al-
on
. הַסַּֽף׃
has·sap̄.
the threshold .

וַיֹּ֧אמֶר
way·yō·mer
And he said
אֵלֶ֛יהָ
’ê·le·hā
to her
､ ק֥וּמִי
qū·mî
Get up ､
וְנֵלֵ֖כָה
wə·nê·lê·ḵāh
and let us be going
וְאֵ֣ין
wə·’ên
but there was no
. עֹנֶ֑ה
‘ō·neh;
וַיִּקָּחֶ֙הָ֙
way·yiq·qā·ḥe·hā
So the man lifted her
עַֽל־
‘al-
､ הַחֲמ֔וֹר
ha·ḥă·mō·wr,
the donkey ､
､ וַיָּ֣קָם
way·yā·qām
and got up ､
הָאִ֔ישׁ
hā·’îš,
the man
וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ
way·yê·leḵ
and went
. לִמְקֹמֽוֹ׃
lim·qō·mōw.
to his place .

וַיָּבֹ֣א
way·yā·ḇō
And when he entered
אֶל־
’el-
､ בֵּית֗וֹ
bê·ṯōw,
וַיִּקַּ֤ח
way·yiq·qaḥ
and he took
אֶת־
’eṯ-
-
､ הַֽמַּאֲכֶ֙לֶת֙
ham·ma·’ă·ḵe·leṯ
a knife ､
וַיַּחֲזֵ֣ק
way·ya·ḥă·zêq
､ בְּפִֽילַגְשׁ֔וֹ
bə·p̄î·laḡ·šōw,
of his concubine ､
וַֽיְנַתְּחֶ֙הָ֙
way·nat·tə·ḥe·hā
､ לַעֲצָמֶ֔יהָ
la·‘ă·ṣā·me·hā,
limb by limb ､
לִשְׁנֵ֥ים
liš·nêm
עָשָׂ֖ר
‘ā·śār
[and] ten
､ נְתָחִ֑ים
nə·ṯā·ḥîm;
pieces ､
וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֶ֔הָ
way·šal·lə·ḥe·hā,
and sent her
בְּכֹ֖ל
bə·ḵōl
גְּב֥וּל
gə·ḇūl
. יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
yiś·rā·’êl.
of Israel .

וְהָיָ֣ה
wə·hā·yāh
And so it was that
כָל־
ḵāl
הָרֹאֶ֗ה
hā·rō·’eh,
who saw it
､ וְאָמַר֙
wə·’ā·mar
and said ､
לֹֽא־
lō-
נִהְיְתָ֤ה
nih·yə·ṯāh
וְלֹֽא־
wə·lō-
or
נִרְאֲתָה֙
nir·’ă·ṯāh
כָּזֹ֔את
kā·zōṯ,
as this
לְמִיּ֞וֹם
lə·mî·yō·wm
from the day
עֲל֤וֹת
‘ă·lō·wṯ
בְּנֵֽי־
bə·nê-
the sons
יִשְׂרָאֵל֙
yiś·rā·’êl
מֵאֶ֣רֶץ
mê·’e·reṣ
מִצְרַ֔יִם
miṣ·ra·yim,
עַ֖ד
‘aḏ
. הַיּ֣וֹם
hay·yō·wm
day .
הַזֶּ֑ה
haz·zeh;
שִֽׂימוּ־
śî·mū-
לָכֶ֥ם
lā·ḵem
it
עָלֶ֖יהָ
‘ā·le·hā
of it
､ עֻ֥צוּ
‘u·ṣū
confer ､
. וְדַבֵּֽרוּ׃
wə·ḏab·bê·rū.
and speak up .
