the strongholds .

､ וְהָיָ֖ה

So it was ､

､ וְעָלָ֨ה

and would come up ､

מִדְיָ֧ן

וַֽעֲמָלֵ֛ק

wa·‘ă·mā·lêq

וּבְנֵי־

ū·ḇə·nê-

and the sons

､ קֶ֖דֶם

qe·ḏem

of the East ､

וְעָל֥וּ

wə·‘ā·lū

and would come up

. עָלָֽיו׃

‘ā·lāw.

וַיַּחֲנ֣וּ

way·ya·ḥă·nū

And they would encamp

עֲלֵיהֶ֗ם

‘ă·lê·hem,

וַיַּשְׁחִ֙יתוּ֙

way·yaš·ḥî·ṯū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

יְב֣וּל

､ הָאָ֔רֶץ

hā·’ā·reṣ,

of the earth ､

עַד־

‘aḏ-

as far as

בּוֹאֲךָ֖

‘az·zāh;

Gaza ､

וְלֹֽא־

and no

יַשְׁאִ֤ירוּ

מִֽחְיָה֙

､ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל

､ וְשֶׂ֥ה

and neither sheep ､

､ וָשׁ֖וֹר

nor ox ､

. וַחֲמֽוֹר׃

and with their livestock

[יבאו]

– לָרֹ֔ב

וְלִגְמַלֵּיהֶ֖ם

wə·liḡ·mal·lê·hem

and their camels

אֵ֣ין

’ên

– מִסְפָּ֑ר

mis·pār;

וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ

way·yā·ḇō·’ū

and they would enter

בָאָ֖רֶץ

ḇā·’ā·reṣ

the land

. לְשַׁחֲתָֽהּ׃

to destroy it .

וַיִּדַּ֧ל

So was impoverished

– עֲבָדִֽים׃

of bondage –

and I delivered

מִיַּ֣ד

out of the hand of

מִצְרַ֔יִם

miṣ·ra·yim,

וּמִיַּ֖ד

and out of the hand

כָּל־

of all

לֹחֲצֵיכֶ֑ם

who oppressed you

וָאֲגָרֵ֤שׁ

wā·’ă·ḡā·rêš

אוֹתָם֙

’ō·w·ṯām

מִפְּנֵיכֶ֔ם

וָאֶתְּנָ֥ה

wā·’et·tə·nāh

and gave

לָכֶ֖ם

and I said

the terebinth [tree]

､ בְּעָפְרָ֔ה

in Ophrah ､

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

which [belonged]

לְיוֹאָ֖שׁ

– הָֽעֶזְרִ֑י

the Abiezrite –

וְגִדְע֣וֹן

and while Gideon

and you shall defeat

unleavened bread from

in a basket ､

וְהַמָּרַ֖ק

and the broth

וַיּוֹצֵ֥א

and he brought [them] out

to Him

and rose

הָאֵ֜שׁ

מִן־

､ הַצּ֗וּר

haṣ·ṣūr,

of the rock ､

וַתֹּ֤אכַל

wat·tō·ḵal

אֶת־

’eṯ-

הַבָּשָׂר֙

the meat

וְאֶת־

and

. הַמַּצּ֔וֹת

ham·maṣ·ṣō·wṯ,

And the Angel

לַיהוָ֣ה

אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ

עַ֣ל

‘al

רֹ֧אשׁ

rōš

､ הַמָּע֛וֹז

ham·mā·‘ō·wz

of rock ､

הַזֶּ֖ה

haz·zeh

､ בַּמַּֽעֲרָכָ֑ה

bam·ma·‘ă·rā·ḵāh;

in the proper arrangement ､

וְלָֽקַחְתָּ֙

wə·lā·qaḥ·tā

and take

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַפָּ֣ר

hap·pār

the bull ､

הַשֵּׁנִ֔י

haš·šê·nî,

וְהַעֲלִ֣יתָ

wə·ha·‘ă·lî·ṯā

עוֹלָ֔ה

‘ō·w·lāh,

a burnt sacrifice

בַּעֲצֵ֥י

ba·‘ă·ṣê

with the wood

הָאֲשֵׁרָ֖ה

hā·’ă·šê·rāh

of the image

אֲשֶׁ֥ר

’ă·šer

. תִּכְרֹֽת׃

tiḵ·rōṯ.

you shall cut down .

וַיִּקַּ֨ח

way·yiq·qaḥ

גִּדְע֜וֹן

giḏ·‘ō·wn

עֲשָׂרָ֤ה

‘ă·śā·rāh

אֲנָשִׁים֙

’ă·nā·šîm

､ מֵֽעֲבָדָ֔יו

mê·‘ă·ḇā·ḏāw,

from among his servants ､

וַיַּ֕עַשׂ

way·ya·‘aś

and did

כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

דִּבֶּ֥ר

dib·ber

אֵלָ֖יו

’ê·lāw

to him

יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

､ וַיְהִ֡י

way·hî

but ､

כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר

ka·’ă·šer

יָרֵא֩

yā·rê

he feared too much

אֶת־

’eṯ-

､ בֵּ֨ית

bêṯ

אָבִ֜יו

’ā·ḇîw

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

אַנְשֵׁ֥י

’an·šê

the men

､ הָעִ֛יר

hā·‘îr

of the city ､

מֵעֲשׂ֥וֹת

mê·‘ă·śō·wṯ

to do [it]

､ יוֹמָ֖ם

yō·w·mām

by day ､

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ

way·ya·‘aś

and he did [it]

. לָֽיְלָה׃

lā·yə·lāh.

by night .

וַיַּשְׁכִּ֜ימוּ

way·yaš·kî·mū

And when arose early

אַנְשֵׁ֤י

’an·šê

the men

הָעִיר֙

hā·‘îr

of the city

､ בַּבֹּ֔קֶר

bab·bō·qer,

in the morning ､

､ וְהִנֵּ֤ה

wə·hin·nêh

and there ､

､ נֻתַּץ֙

nut·taṣ

was torn down ､

מִזְבַּ֣ח

miz·baḥ

הַבַּ֔עַל

hab·ba·‘al,

וְהָאֲשֵׁרָ֥ה

wə·hā·’ă·šê·rāh

and the wooden image

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

עָלָ֖יו

‘ā·lāw

כֹּרָ֑תָה

kō·rā·ṯāh;

וְאֵת֙

wə·’êṯ

and

הַפָּ֣ר

hap·pār

the bull

הַשֵּׁנִ֔י

haš·šê·nî,

הֹֽעֲלָ֔ה

hō·‘ă·lāh,

was being offered

עַל־

‘al-

on

הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ

. הַבָּנֽוּי׃

hab·bā·nui.

[which had been] built .

וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙

way·yō·mə·rū

אִ֣ישׁ

to

､ רֵעֵ֔הוּ

עָשָׂ֖ה

؟ הַדָּבָ֣ר

וַֽיִּדְרְשׁוּ֙

and when they had inquired

､ וַיְבַקְשׁ֔וּ

way·ḇaq·šū,

and asked ､

､ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ

way·yō·mə·rū,

then they said ､

גִּדְעוֹן֙

giḏ·‘ō·wn

בֶּן־

ben-

יוֹאָ֔שׁ

yō·w·’āš,

עָשָׂ֖ה

‘ā·śāh

הַדָּבָ֥ר

had·dā·ḇār

. הַזֶּֽה׃

haz·zeh.

וַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּ

way·yō·mə·rū

And said

אַנְשֵׁ֤י

’an·šê

the men

הָעִיר֙

hā·‘îr

of the city

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ יוֹאָ֔שׁ

yō·w·’āš,

הוֹצֵ֥א

hō·w·ṣê

אֶת־

’eṯ-

､ בִּנְךָ֖

､ וְיָמֹ֑ת

that he may die ､

he has torn down

by my hand ､
