The First Offerings of Aaron

וַיְהִי֙

way·hî

And it came to pass

בַּיּ֣וֹם

bay·yō·wm

on the day

､ הַשְּׁמִינִ֔י

haš·šə·mî·nî,

קָרָ֣א

qā·rā

מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

לְאַהֲרֹ֖ן

lə·’a·hă·rōn

､ וּלְבָנָ֑יו

ū·lə·ḇā·nāw;

and his sons ､

וּלְזִקְנֵ֖י

ū·lə·ziq·nê

and the elders

､ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

yiś·rā·’êl.

of Israel ､

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

and he said

אֶֽל־

’el-

to

､ אַהֲרֹ֗ן

’a·hă·rōn,

קַח־

qaḥ-

לְ֠ךָ

lə·ḵā

עֵ֣גֶל

‘ê·ḡel

בֶּן־

ben-

בָּקָ֧ר

bā·qār

､ לְחַטָּ֛את

lə·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ

as a sin offering ､

וְאַ֥יִל

wə·’a·yil

and a ram

､ לְעֹלָ֖ה

lə·‘ō·lāh

as a burnt offering ､

､ תְּמִימִ֑ם

tə·mî·mim;

without blemish ､

וְהַקְרֵ֖ב

wə·haq·rêḇ

and offer [them]

לִפְנֵ֥י

lip̄·nê

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

וְאֶל־

wə·’el-

And to

בְּנֵ֥י

bə·nê

the sons

יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל

yiś·rā·’êl

､ תְּדַבֵּ֣ר

tə·ḏab·bêr

you shall speak ､

､ לֵאמֹ֑ר

lê·mōr;

קְח֤וּ

qə·ḥū

שְׂעִיר־

śə·‘îr-

עִזִּים֙

‘iz·zîm

of the goats

– לְחַטָּ֔את

lə·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ,

as a sin offering –

וְעֵ֨גֶל

wə·‘ê·ḡel

and a calf

､ וָכֶ֧בֶשׂ

wā·ḵe·ḇeś

and a lamb ､

בְּנֵי־

bə·nê-

[both] of the first

､ שָׁנָ֛ה

šā·nāh

year ､

､ תְּמִימִ֖ם

tə·mî·mim

without blemish ､

– לְעֹלָֽה׃

lə·‘ō·lāh.

as a burnt offering –

וְשׁ֨וֹר

wə·šō·wr

and a bull

וָאַ֜יִל

wā·’a·yil

and a ram

､ לִשְׁלָמִ֗ים

liš·lā·mîm,

as peace offerings ､

לִזְבֹּ֙חַ֙

liz·bō·aḥ

לִפְנֵ֣י

lip̄·nê

– יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

וּמִנְחָ֖ה

ū·min·ḥāh

and a grain offering

בְּלוּלָ֣ה

bə·lū·lāh

– בַשָּׁ֑מֶן

ḇaš·šā·men;

with oil –

כִּ֣י

kî

הַיּ֔וֹם

hay·yō·wm,

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

נִרְאָ֥ה

nir·’āh

. אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃

’ă·lê·ḵem.

to you .

וַיִּקְח֗וּ

way·yiq·ḥū,

So they brought

אֵ֚ת

’êṯ

-

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

צִוָּ֣ה

ṣiw·wāh

מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

אֶל־

’el-

to

פְּנֵ֖י

pə·nê

אֹ֣הֶל

’ō·hel

､ מוֹעֵ֑ד

mō·w·‘êḏ;

of meeting ､

וַֽיִּקְרְבוּ֙

way·yiq·rə·ḇū

כָּל־

kāl-

､ הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה

hā·‘ê·ḏāh,

the congregation ､

וַיַּֽעַמְד֖וּ

way·ya·‘am·ḏū

לִפְנֵ֥י

lip̄·nê

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

､ מֹשֶׁ֔ה

mō·šeh,

זֶ֧ה

zeh

this [is]

הַדָּבָ֛ר

had·dā·ḇār

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

צִוָּ֥ה

ṣiw·wāh

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

､ תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ

ta·‘ă·śū;

you to do ､

וְיֵרָ֥א

wə·yê·rā

and will appear

אֲלֵיכֶ֖ם

’ă·lê·ḵem

to you

כְּב֥וֹד

kə·ḇō·wḏ

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר

way·yō·mer

And said

מֹשֶׁ֜ה

mō·šeh

אֶֽל־

’el-

to

､ אַהֲרֹ֗ן

’a·hă·rōn,

קְרַ֤ב

qə·raḇ

go

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙

ham·miz·bê·aḥ

the altar ､

וַעֲשֵׂ֞ה

wa·‘ă·śêh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ חַטָּֽאתְךָ֙

ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯə·ḵā

your sin offering ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ עֹ֣לָתֶ֔ךָ

‘ō·lā·ṯe·ḵā,

your burnt offering ､

וְכַפֵּ֥ר

wə·ḵap·pêr

and make atonement

בַּֽעַדְךָ֖

ba·‘aḏ·ḵā

וּבְעַ֣ד

ū·ḇə·‘aḏ

– הָעָ֑ם

hā·‘ām;

the people –

וַעֲשֵׂ֞ה

wa·‘ă·śêh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

קָרְבַּ֤ן

qā·rə·ban

､ הָעָם֙

hā·‘ām

of the people ､

וְכַפֵּ֣ר

wə·ḵap·pêr

and make atonement

､ בַּֽעֲדָ֔ם

ba·‘ă·ḏām,

כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

צִוָּ֥ה

ṣiw·wāh

. יְהוָֽה׃

Yah·weh.

The Sin Offering

וַיִּקְרַ֥ב

way·yiq·raḇ

אַהֲרֹ֖ן

’a·hă·rōn

אֶל־

’el-

to

､ הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ;

the altar ､

וַיִּשְׁחַ֛ט

way·yiš·ḥaṭ

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

עֵ֥גֶל

‘ê·ḡel

the calf

､ הַחַטָּ֖את

ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ

of the sin offering ､

אֲשֶׁר־

’ă·šer-

. לֽוֹ׃

lōw.

וַ֠יַּקְרִבוּ

way·yaq·ri·ḇū

בְּנֵ֨י

bə·nê

the sons

אַהֲרֹ֣ן

’a·hă·rōn

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַדָּם֮

had·dām

､ אֵלָיו֒

’ê·lāw

to him ､

וַיִּטְבֹּ֤ל

way·yiṭ·bōl

and he dipped

אֶצְבָּעוֹ֙

’eṣ·bā·‘ōw

､ בַּדָּ֔ם

bad·dām,

in the blood ､

וַיִּתֵּ֖ן

way·yit·tên

and put [it]

עַל־

‘al-

on

קַרְנ֣וֹת

qar·nō·wṯ

､ הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ;

of the altar ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

הַדָּ֣ם

had·dām

יָצַ֔ק

yā·ṣaq,

אֶל־

’el-

at

יְס֖וֹד

yə·sō·wḏ

the base

. הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

ham·miz·bê·aḥ.

of the altar .

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

But

､ הַחֵ֨לֶב

ha·ḥê·leḇ

the fat ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ הַכְּלָיֹ֜ת

hak·kə·lā·yōṯ

the kidneys ､

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

הַיֹּתֶ֤רֶת

hay·yō·ṯe·reṯ

מִן־

min-

הַכָּבֵד֙

hak·kā·ḇêḏ

מִן־

min-

of

､ הַ֣חַטָּ֔את

ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ,

the sin offering ､

הִקְטִ֖יר

hiq·ṭîr

､ הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חָה

ham·miz·bê·ḥāh;

on the altar ､

כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

צִוָּ֥ה

ṣiw·wāh

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

. מֹשֶֽׁה׃

mō·šeh.

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

And

הַבָּשָׂ֖ר

hab·bā·śār

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

הָע֑וֹר

hā·‘ō·wr;

the hide

שָׂרַ֣ף

śā·rap̄

בָּאֵ֔שׁ

bā·’êš,

with fire

מִח֖וּץ

mi·ḥūṣ

. לַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃

lam·ma·ḥă·neh.

the camp .

The Burnt Offering

וַיִּשְׁחַ֖ט

way·yiš·ḥaṭ

And he killed

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

– הָעֹלָ֑ה

hā·‘ō·lāh;

the burnt offering –

וַ֠יַּמְצִאוּ

way·yam·ṣi·’ū

בְּנֵ֨י

bə·nê

אַהֲרֹ֤ן

’a·hă·rōn

אֵלָיו֙

’ê·lāw

to him

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַדָּ֔ם

had·dām,

the blood ､

וַיִּזְרְקֵ֥הוּ

way·yiz·rə·qê·hū

and which he sprinkled

עַל־

‘al-

on

הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ

. סָבִֽיב׃

sā·ḇîḇ.

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

And

הָעֹלָ֗ה

hā·‘ō·lāh,

the burnt offering

הִמְצִ֧יאוּ

him·ṣî·’ū

אֵלָ֛יו

’ê·lāw

to him

לִנְתָחֶ֖יהָ

lin·ṯā·ḥe·hā

with its pieces

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ הָרֹ֑אשׁ

hā·rōš;

head ､

וַיַּקְטֵ֖ר

way·yaq·ṭêr

and he burned [them]

עַל־

‘al-

on

. הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

ham·miz·bê·aḥ.

the altar .

וַיִּרְחַ֥ץ

way·yir·ḥaṣ

And he washed

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַקֶּ֖רֶב

haq·qe·reḇ

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

､ הַכְּרָעָ֑יִם

hak·kə·rā·‘ā·yim;

the legs ､

וַיַּקְטֵ֥ר

way·yaq·ṭêr

and burned [them]

עַל־

‘al-

with

הָעֹלָ֖ה

hā·‘ō·lāh

the burnt offering

. הַמִּזְבֵּֽחָה׃

ham·miz·bê·ḥāh.

on the altar .

The Offerings for the People

וַיַּקְרֵ֕ב

way·yaq·rêḇ

And he brought

אֵ֖ת

’êṯ

-

קָרְבַּ֣ן

qā·rə·ban

. הָעָ֑ם

hā·‘ām;

of the people .

וַיִּקַּ֞ח

way·yiq·qaḥ

And took

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ שְׂעִ֤יר

śə·‘îr

the goat ､

הַֽחַטָּאת֙

ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ

the sin offering

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

､ לָעָ֔ם

lā·‘ām,

for the people ､

וַיִּשְׁחָטֵ֥הוּ

way·yiš·ḥā·ṭê·hū

and killed it

､ וַֽיְחַטְּאֵ֖הוּ

way·ḥaṭ·ṭə·’ê·hū

and offered it for sin ､

. כָּרִאשֽׁוֹן׃

kā·ri·šō·wn.

like the first one .

וַיַּקְרֵ֖ב

way·yaq·rêḇ

And he brought

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הָעֹלָ֑ה

hā·‘ō·lāh;

the burnt offering ､

וַֽיַּעֲשֶׂ֖הָ

way·ya·‘ă·śe·hā

and offered it

. כַּמִּשְׁפָּֽט׃

kam·miš·pāṭ.

according to the prescribed manner .

וַיַּקְרֵב֮

way·yaq·rêḇ

And he brought

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הַמִּנְחָה֒

ham·min·ḥāh

the grain offering ､

וַיְמַלֵּ֤א

way·mal·lê

and

כַפּוֹ֙

ḵap·pōw

took a handful of it

､ מִמֶּ֔נָּה

mim·men·nāh,

- ､

וַיַּקְטֵ֖ר

way·yaq·ṭêr

and burned [it]

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ;

the altar ､

מִלְּבַ֖ד

mil·lə·ḇaḏ

עֹלַ֥ת

‘ō·laṯ

the burnt sacrifice

. הַבֹּֽקֶר׃

hab·bō·qer.

of the morning .

וַיִּשְׁחַ֤ט

way·yiš·ḥaṭ

And He killed

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַשּׁוֹר֙

haš·šō·wr

the bull

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

הָאַ֔יִל

hā·’a·yil,

the ram

זֶ֥בַח

ze·ḇaḥ

[as] sacrifices

､ הַשְּׁלָמִ֖ים

haš·šə·lā·mîm

of peace offerings ､

אֲשֶׁ֣ר

’ă·šer

– לָעָ֑ם

lā·‘ām;

for the people –

וַ֠יַּמְצִאוּ

way·yam·ṣi·’ū

בְּנֵ֨י

bə·nê

אַהֲרֹ֤ן

’a·hă·rōn

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַדָּם֙

､ אֵלָ֔יו

’ê·lāw,

to him ､

הַחֲלָבִ֖ים

the fat

מִן־

min-

הַשּׁ֑וֹר

haš·šō·wr;

the bull

וּמִן־

ū·min-

and

､ הָאַ֔יִל

hā·’a·yil,

the ram ､

､ הָֽאַלְיָ֤ה

hā·’al·yāh

the fatty tail ､

וְהַֽמְכַסֶּה֙

wə·ham·ḵas·seh

and what covers [the entrails]

､ וְהַכְּלָיֹ֔ת

wə·hak·kə·lā·yōṯ,

and the kidneys ､

וְיֹתֶ֖רֶת

wə·yō·ṯe·reṯ

and the fatty lobe [attached to]

､ הַכָּבֵֽד׃

hak·kā·ḇêḏ.

the liver ､

וַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּ

way·yā·śî·mū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הַחֲלָבִ֖ים

ha·ḥă·lā·ḇîm

the fat

עַל־

‘al-

on

､ הֶחָז֑וֹת

he·ḥā·zō·wṯ;

the breasts ､

וַיַּקְטֵ֥ר

way·yaq·ṭêr

and he burned

הַחֲלָבִ֖ים

ha·ḥă·lā·ḇîm

the fat

. הַמִּזְבֵּֽחָה׃

ham·miz·bê·ḥāh.

on the altar .

וְאֵ֣ת

wə·’êṯ

But

הֶחָז֗וֹת

he·ḥā·zō·wṯ,

וְאֵת֙

wə·’êṯ

and

שׁ֣וֹק

šō·wq

הַיָּמִ֔ין

hay·yā·mîn,

הֵנִ֧יף

hê·nîp̄

אַהֲרֹ֛ן

’a·hă·rōn

תְּנוּפָ֖ה

tə·nū·p̄āh

[as] a wave offering

לִפְנֵ֣י

lip̄·nê

､ יְהוָ֑ה

Yah·weh;

כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר

ka·’ă·šer

as

צִוָּ֥ה

ṣiw·wāh

. מֹשֶֽׁה׃

mō·šeh.

וַיִּשָּׂ֨א

way·yiś·śā

אַהֲרֹ֧ן

’a·hă·rōn

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

[ידו]

yā·ḏōw

-

(יָדָ֛יו)

yā·ḏāw

אֶל־

’el-

､ הָעָ֖ם

hā·‘ām

the people ､

､ וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֑ם

way·ḇā·rə·ḵêm;

and blessed them ､

וַיֵּ֗רֶד

way·yê·reḏ,

מֵעֲשֹׂ֧ת

mê·‘ă·śōṯ

､ הַֽחַטָּ֛את

ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ

the sin offering ､

､ וְהָעֹלָ֖ה

wə·hā·‘ō·lāh

and the burnt offering ､

. וְהַשְּׁלָמִֽים׃

wə·haš·šə·lā·mîm.

and peace offerings .

Moses and Aaron Bless the People

וַיָּבֹ֨א

way·yā·ḇō

And went

מֹשֶׁ֤ה

mō·šeh

וְאַהֲרֹן֙

wə·’a·hă·rōn

אֶל־

’el-

אֹ֣הֶל

’ō·hel

､ מוֹעֵ֔ד

mō·w·‘êḏ,

of meeting ､

､ וַיֵּ֣צְא֔וּ

way·yê·ṣə·’ū,

and came out ､

וַֽיְבָרֲכ֖וּ

way·ḇā·ră·ḵū

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

､ הָעָ֑ם

hā·‘ām;

the people ､

וַיֵּרָ֥א

way·yê·rā

כְבוֹד־

ḵə·ḇō·wḏ-

יְהוָ֖ה

Yah·weh

אֶל־

’el-

to

כָּל־

kāl-

. הָעָֽם׃

hā·‘ām.

the people .

וַתֵּ֤צֵא

wat·tê·ṣê

אֵשׁ֙

’êš

מִלִּפְנֵ֣י

mil·lip̄·nê

､ יְהוָ֔ה

Yah·weh,

וַתֹּ֙אכַל֙

wat·tō·ḵal

עַל־

‘al-

on

הַמִּזְבֵּ֔חַ

ham·miz·bê·aḥ,

אֶת־

’eṯ-

-

הָעֹלָ֖ה

hā·‘ō·lāh

the burnt offering

וְאֶת־

wə·’eṯ-

and

– הַחֲלָבִ֑ים

ha·ḥă·lā·ḇîm;

the fat –

וַיַּ֤רְא

way·yar

and when saw [it]

כָּל־

kāl-

､ הָעָם֙

hā·‘ām

the people ､

וַיָּרֹ֔נּוּ

way·yā·rōn·nū,

and they shouted

וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ

way·yip·pə·lū

and fell

עַל־

‘al-

on

. פְּנֵיהֶֽם׃

pə·nê·hem.
