John 9:1-12 - A Man Born Blind Is Given Sight

¹ As he passed along he saw a man who had been blind from his birth; ² and his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, for whose sin ??for his own or for his parents' ??was he born blind?"

³ Jesus replied, "Neither for his own sin nor for his parents' ??it was to let the work of God be illustrated in him. ⁴ While daylight lasts, we must be busy with the work of God: night comes, when no one can do any work. ⁵ When I am in the world, I am light for the world."

⁶ With these words he spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva, which he smeared on the man's eyes, ⁷ saying, "Go and wash them in the pool of Siloam" (Siloam meaning 'sent'). So off he went and washed them, and went home seeing.

⁸ Whereupon the neighbours and those to whom he had been a familiar sight as a beggar, said, "Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?" ⁹ Some said, "It is"; others said, "No, but it is like him." He said, "I am the man."

¹⁰ So they asked him, "How were your eyes opened?"

¹¹ He replied, "The man they call Jesus made some clay and smeared my eyes with it and told me, 'Go and wash them in Siloam'; so I went and washed them, and I got my sight."

¹² "Where is he?" they asked; he answered, "I do not know."
