John 5:1-13 - A Paralytic Is Healed

After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem, by the sheep-gate, a bath, which is called in the Hebrew tongue, Bethesda, having five porticos. 3 In these lay a great multitude of diseased, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water. 4 For an angel went down at certain times into the bath, and the water was troubled: and whosoever went in first, after the troubling of the water, was made whole, whatsoever disease he had.

And a certain man was there, who had been diseased eight and thirty years. 6 Jesus seeing him lie, and knowing that he had now been diseased a long time, saith to him, Desirest thou to be made whole?

The infirm man answered him, Sir, I have no man to put me into the bath, when the water is troubled; and while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

Jesus saith to him, Rise, take up thy bed and walk. 9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked: and the same day was the sabbath. 10 Then said the Jews to him that was healed, It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to take up the bed.

He answered, He that made me whole, he said to me, Take up thy bed and walk.

Then asked they him, Who is the man that said to thee, Take up thy bed and walk? 13 And he that was healed knew not who he was; for Jesus had retired, a multitude being in the place.
