Matthew 22:41-46 - David's Son And Lord

⁴¹ As the Pharisees had mustered, Jesus put a question to them. ⁴² "Tell me," he said, "what you think about the Christ. Whose son is he?" They said to him, "David's."

⁴³ He said to them, "How is it then that David in the Spirit calls him Lord?

⁴⁴ The Lord said to my Lord, 'Sit at my right hand, till I put your enemies under your feet.'

⁴⁵ If David calls him Lord, how can he be his son?" ⁴⁶ No one could make any answer to him, and from that day no one ventured to put another question to him.

³⁵ And as Jesus taught in the temple he asked, "How can the scribes say that the Christ is David's son? ³⁶ David himself said in the holy Spirit, The Lord said to my Lord, 'Sit at my right hand, till I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.'

³⁷ David here calls him Lord. Then how can he be his son?" Now the mass of the people listened with delight to him.

⁴¹ But he said to them, "How can people say that the Christ is David's son? ⁴² Why, David himself says in the book of psalms, The Lord said to my Lord, 'Sit at my right hand, ⁴³ till I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.'

⁴⁴ David then calls him Lord. So how can he be his son?"
