Matthew 27:45-56 - Jesus Dies On The Cross

Matthew 27:45-56

45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the earth, unto the ninth hour. 46 And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama-sabachthani? That is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

47 Some of them that stood there hearing it, said, He calleth Elijah.

48 And immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge filled it with vinegar, and put it on a cane, and gave him to drink. 49 The rest said, Let be: let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.

50 Jesus after he had cried again with a loud voice, dismissed his spirit. 51 And behold the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom, and the earth was shaken and the rocks were torn asunder: And the tombs were opened, 52 and many bodies of holy men that slept were raised. 53 And coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, went into the holy city, and appeared to many.

54 And the centurion and they that were with him, guarding Jesus, seeing the earthquake and the things that were done, feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

55 And many women were there, beholding afar off, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, serving him. 56 Among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.

Mark 15:33-41

33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? Which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

35 And one of them that stood by, hearing it said, Behold, he calleth Elijah. 36 And one ran and filling a sponge with vinegar, put it on a cane, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take him down.

37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and expired. 38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain, from the top to the bottom. 39 And the centurion, who stood over-against him, seeing that having so cried he expired, said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

40 There were also women, beholding from afar, among whom was Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James the less, and of Joses, and Salome: 41 Who also when he was in Galilee, followed him and ministered to him, and many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem.

Luke 23:44-49

44 And it was about the sixth hour; and there was darkness over all the earth till the ninth hour. 45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. 46 And Jesus crying with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit. And having said thus, he expired.

47 And the centurion seeing what was done, glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man. 48 And all the people who had come together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, returned, smiting their breasts. 49 And all his acquaintance, and the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.

John 19:28-37

28 After this, Jesus knowing, that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar. And filling a sponge with vinegar, and putting it on a stalk of hyssop, they put it to his mouth.

30 When Jesus had taken the vinegar, he said, It is finished, and bowing the head, he gave up the Ghost.

31 Now because it was the preparation, lest the bodies should remain upon the cross on the sabbath (for that sabbath was a great day) the Jews besought Pilate, that their legs might be broken, and they might be taken away. 32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with him. 33 But coming to Jesus, when they saw he was dead already, they brake not his legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and forthwith there came out blood and water. 35 And he that saw, hath testified it, and his testimony is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye may believe. 36 For these things were done, that the scripture might be fulfilled, A bone of it shall not be broken. 37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they have pierced.
