John 12:27-36 - Jesus Predicts His Death
27 "Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again."
29 The crowd standing by heard it and said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to him."
30 Jesus answered, "This voice has come for your sake, not for mine. 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." 33 He said this to show by what death he was to die.
34 The crowd answered him, "We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever; and how can you say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this Son of Man?"
35 Then Jesus said to them, "A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." When Jesus had said this, he departed and hid himself from them.
21 Then Jesus said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come."
22 Then the Jews said, "Will he kill himself, since he says, 'Where I go you cannot come'?"
23 He said to them, "You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. 24 Therefore I told to you that you would die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am he, you will die in your sins."
25 They said to him, "Who are you?" Jesus said to them, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning. 26 I have much to say about you and much to judge; but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him."
27 They did not understand that he spoke to them of the Father. 28 So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority but speak just what the Father taught me. 29 And he who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him."
30 As he spoke these words, many believed in him.
