Matthew 26:31-35 - Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial

³¹ Then Jesus said to them, "This night you will all fall away because of me, for it is written: 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'

³² But after I am raised, I will go ahead of you into Galilee."

³³ Peter said to him, "If they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away!"

³⁴ Jesus said to him, "I tell you the truth, on this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times."

³⁵ Peter said to him, "Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you." And all the disciples said the same thing.

²⁷ Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away, for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'

²⁸ But after I am raised, I will go ahead of you into Galilee."

²⁹ Peter said to him, "Even if they all fall away, I will not!"

³⁰ Jesus said to him, "I tell you the truth, today -- this very night -- before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times."

³¹ But Peter insisted emphatically, "Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you." And all of them said the same thing.

³¹ "Simon, Simon, pay attention! Satan has demanded to have you all, to sift you like wheat, ³² but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. When you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."

³³ But Peter said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!"

³⁴ Jesus replied, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know me."

³¹ When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him. ³² If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him right away.

³³ Children, I am still with you for a little while. You will look for me, and just as I said to the Jewish religious leaders, 'Where I am going you cannot come,' now I tell you the same.

³⁴ "I give you a new commandment -- to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. ³⁵ Everyone will know by this that you are my disciples -- if you have love for one another."

³⁶ Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus replied, "Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later."

³⁷ Peter said to him, "Lord, why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!"

³⁸ Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me? I tell you the solemn truth, the rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times!
