Matthew 26:31-35 - Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial

Matthew 26:31-35

31 Then Jesus said to them, "This night you will all fall away because of me, for it is written: 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'

32 But after I am raised, I will go ahead of you into Galilee."

33 Peter said to him, "If they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away!"

34 Jesus said to him, "I tell you the truth, on this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times."

35 Peter said to him, "Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you." And all the disciples said the same thing.

Mark 14:27-31

27 Then Jesus said to them, "You will all fall away, for it is written, 'I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.'

28 But after I am raised, I will go ahead of you into Galilee."

29 Peter said to him, "Even if they all fall away, I will not!"

30 Jesus said to him, "I tell you the truth, today -- this very night -- before a rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times."

31 But Peter insisted emphatically, "Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you." And all of them said the same thing.

Luke 22:31-34

31 "Simon, Simon, pay attention! Satan has demanded to have you all, to sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. When you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."

33 But Peter said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death!"

34 Jesus replied, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know me."

John 13:31-38

31 When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him. 32 If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him right away.

33 Children, I am still with you for a little while. You will look for me, and just as I said to the Jewish religious leaders, 'Where I am going you cannot come,' now I tell you the same.

34 "I give you a new commandment -- to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 Everyone will know by this that you are my disciples -- if you have love for one another."

36 Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you going?" Jesus replied, "Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later."

37 Peter said to him, "Lord, why can't I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!"

38 Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me? I tell you the solemn truth, the rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times!
