Luke 9:51-56 - Jesus Rejected In A Samaritan Village

⁵¹ And it happened when the time came for Jesus to be taken up [to heaven] that He firmly determined to go to Jerusalem. ⁵² So, He sent messengers on ahead of Him, who went and entered a Samaritan village to prepare for Him [i.e., for His food and lodging]. ⁵³ And these Samaritans did not welcome Him because He was heading for Jerusalem. [Note: They perceived He was a Jew and Samaritans did not associate with Jews]. ⁵⁴ And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said [to Him], "Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to burn them up?"

⁵⁵ But He turned to them and spoke sternly. {{Some manuscripts add "You do not know what kind of a spirit you represent, ⁵⁶ for the Son of man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them"}} So, they went to another village.
