Matthew 26:6-13 - Jesus' Anointing At Bethany
6 Now when Jesus was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 7 there came to him a woman having an alabaster bottle of very costly ointment, and poured it on his head while he was reclining at table. 8 But the disciples seeing it, were much displeased, saying, To what purpose is this waste?. 9 For this might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
10 And Jesus, perceiving it, said to them, Why do ye trouble the woman? For she hath done a good deed to me. 11 For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always. 12 For she, in pouring this ointment on my body, hath done it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly do I say to you, Wherever these glad tidings shall be published in the whole world, this too which she hath done will be told for a memorial of her.
3 And when he was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he was reclining at table, there came a woman having an alabaster bottle of ointment of pure spikenard, very precious; and breaking the bottle, she poured it on his head. 4 And there were some that were much displeased, [and said] among themselves, Why is this waste of the ointment made? 5 For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred denaries, and given to the poor. And they chid her harshly.
6 But Jesus said, Let her alone; why do ye trouble her? A good deed hath she done for me. 7 For the poor ye have always with you, and whenever ye will, ye can do good to them; but me ye have not always. 8 She hath done what she could; she hath anointed my body beforehand for its burial. 9 And truly do I say to you, Wherever the glad tidings shall be published throughout the whole world, this too which she hath done will be told for a memorial of her.
