Matthew 26:6-13 - Jesus' Anointing At Bethany

Matthew 26:6-13

6 And Jesus being at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, 7 a woman came to him having a vase of very costly ointment, and poured it on his head, as he reclined. 8 And his disciples seeing it were displeased, and said, Why is this waste? 9 This could have been sold for much and given to the poor.

10 But Jesus knowing it, said to them, Why do you trouble the woman? for she has done a good work for me; 11 for the poor you always have with you, but me you have not always. 12 For in putting this ointment on my body, she has done it to prepare me for burial. 13 I tell you truly, that wherever this good news is preached in all the word, what this woman has done shall be told for a memorial of her.

Mark 14:3-9

3 And when he was at Bethany, and was reclining at the house of Simon the leper, a woman came, having a vase of ointment of genuine nard, extremely costly, and breaking the vase she poured it out on his head. 4 And some were displeased, [and said] to themselves, Why was this waste of the ointment? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii [$42] and given to the poor; and they blamed her.

6 But Jesus said, Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has performed a good work on me. 7 The poor you have always with you, and you can do them good when you will; but me you have not always. 8 She has done what she could. She anticipated anointing my body for the burial. 9 I tell you truly, that wherever this good news shall be preached in all the world, this also which she has done shall be told for a memorial of her.
