1 John 2:1-11 - Keeping The New Commandment
1 My little children, I write you these things that you may not sin. If any man sin, we have an Advocate (intercessor) (comforter) (helper) with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous! 2 He is the propitiation (Greek: hilasmos: atonement, compensation) for our sins. Not for ours only, but also for the whole world.
3 We know that we know him, when we obey his commandments. 4 He who says: I know him, and does not obey his commandments is a liar! The truth is not in him. 5 Whoever obeys his Word; the love of God is made perfect (complete) (mature) in him. By this we know that we are in union with him. 6 He that says he lives in union with him should walk as he walked.
7 Beloved, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment you had from the beginning. This old commandment is the word that you heard. 8 Then again, I do write a new commandment to you. This is true in him and in you. The darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines.
9 He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in the darkness! 10 He who loves his brother lives in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling (offence) in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness. He does not know where he goes because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
