John 6:60-71 - Many Disciples Desert Jesus

Many, therefore, of His disciples, having heard this, said, "This is a hard saying! Who can hear it?"

But Jesus, knowing in Himself that his disciples were murmuring about this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble? 62 What, then, if ye behold the Son of Man ascending where He was before? 63 It is the Spirit That giveth life; the flesh profits nothing: the words which I have spoken to you are spirit, and they are life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who those were that believed not, and who it was that would betray Him. 65 And He said, "For this cause I have said to you, that no one can come to Me, unless it has been given to him of the Father."

From this time many of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him. 67 Jesus, therefore, said to the twelve, "Do ye also wish to go away?"

Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast words of eternal life. 69 And we have believed and know, that Thou art the Holy One of God."

Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?" 71 But He was speaking of Judas, son of Simon Iscariot; for he was about to betray Him, being one of the twelve.
