Matthew 10:34-39 - Not Peace, But A Sword Of Divisiveness

Matthew 10:34-39

34 Do not have the thought that I have come to send peace on the earth; I came not to send peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to put a man against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law: 36 And a man will be hated by those of his house.

37 He who has more love for his father or mother than for me is not good enough for me; he who has more love for son or daughter than for me is not good enough for me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and come after me is not good enough for me. 39 He who has the desire to keep his life will have it taken from him, and he who gives up his life because of me will have it given back to him.

Luke 12:49-53

49 I came to send a fire on the earth, and it may even now have been lighted. 50 But there is a baptism which I have to undergo; and how am I kept back till it is complete! 51 Is it your opinion that I have come to give peace on earth? I say to you, No, but division: 52 For from this time, a family of five in one house will be on opposite sides, three against two and two against three.

53 They will be at war, the father against his son, and the son against his father; mother against daughter, and daughter against mother; mother-in-law against daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.
