Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

Matthew 16:13-20

13 And Jesus having come into the regions of Caesarea Philippi, asked His disciples, saying, Whom do the people say that I, the Son of man, am?

14 And they said, Some, John the Baptist; and some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

15 And He says to them, But whom do you say that I am?

16 And Simon Peter responding said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus responding said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon the son of Jonah: because flesh and blood did not reveal it to thee, but my Father who is in the heavens. 18 And I say to thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock will I build my Church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of the heavens: and whatsoever you may bind on the earth, shall be bound in the heavens; and whatsoever you may loose on earth shall be loosed in the heavens.

20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He is the Christ.

Mark 8:27-30

27 And Jesus and His disciples went away into the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He asked His disciples, saying to them, Whom do the people say that I am?

28 And they answered Him saying, John the Baptist: and others, Elijah; and others, One of the prophets.

29 And He asked them, Whom do you say that I am? And Peter responding says to Him, Thou art the Christ.

30 And He charged them that they should speak to no one concerning Him.
