Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

¹³ And Jesus, having come into the region of Caesarea Philippi, asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that the Son of man is?

¹⁴ And they said, Some, John the Baptist; but some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

¹⁵ He saith to them, But who do ye say that I am?

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answering said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

¹⁷ And Jesus answering said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon, son of Jonah; for flesh and blood did not reveal it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. ¹⁸ And I on my part say to thee, that thou art Peter, a rock, and on this rock will I build my church, and the gates of the underworld shall not prevail against it. ¹⁹ I will give thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever thou shalt bind on earth will be bound in heaven; and whatever thou shalt loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

²⁰ Then he charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.

²⁷ And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, Who do men say that I am?

²⁸ And they answered him, saying, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, One of the prophets.

²⁹ And he asked them, But who do ye say that I am? Peter answering saith to him, Thou art the Christ.

³⁰ And he strictly charged them to tell no one concerning him.
