Matthew 16:13-20 - Peter's Confession At Caesarea Philippi

Matthew 16:13-20

13 And Jesus, having come into the region of Caesarea Philippi, asked his disciples, saying, Who do men say that the Son of man is?

14 And they said, Some, John the Baptist; but some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

15 He saith to them, But who do ye say that I am?

16 And Simon Peter answering said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

17 And Jesus answering said to him, Blessed art thou, Simon, son of Jonah; for flesh and blood did not reveal it to thee, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I on my part say to thee, that thou art Peter, a rock, and on this rock will I build my church, and the gates of the underworld shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever thou shalt bind on earth will be bound in heaven; and whatever thou shalt loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

20 Then he charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
