Luke 9:18-20 - Peter's Confession

Luke 9:18-20

18 And it happened while Jesus was praying off by Himself that His disciples joined Him. He asked them, saying, "Who are the crowds saying that I am?"

19 And they answered, " [Some say you are] John the Immerser, while others say [the prophet] Elijah, and [still others say] that one of the [other] prophets of old has risen again [from the dead]."

20 Then Jesus said to them, "But who do you men say that I am?" And Peter answered, " [You are] the Christ of God [i.e., God's specially chosen one]."

John 6:66-71

66 Upon [hearing] this, many of Jesus' disciples turned back and refused to accompany Him anymore. [Note: They deserted Jesus physically as well as spiritually]. 67 Therefore, Jesus said to the twelve apostles, "Do you not want to go [with me] either?"

68 Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, who [else] could we go to? You have the message about never ending life. 69 And we apostles have believed [in you] and know that you are God's Holy One."

70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose [all] twelve of you, and one of you is a devil?" [Note: The word "devil" means "adversary" or "opponent"]. 71 Now He was speaking about Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for he was the one, out of the twelve, who was [soon] going to turn Jesus over [to the Jewish authorities].
