Matthew 26:47-56 - The Betrayal And Arrest Of Jesus

Matthew 26:47-56

47 And while he was yet speaking, lo! Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 And his betrayer had given them a sign, saying, Whomever I shall kiss, he is the man; seize him. 49 And immediately going up to Jesus, he said, Hail, Rabbi! and kissed him.

50 And Jesus said to him, Friend, for what hast thou come! Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and seized him. 51 And, lo! one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck the servant of the highpriest, and cut off his ear.

52 Then Jesus saith to him, Put back thy sword into its place; for all they that take the sword will perish by the sword. 53 Dost thou think that I cannot pray to my Father, and he will now give me more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then shall the Scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

55 In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, Ye have come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take me; I sat daily teaching in the temple, and ye did not lay hands on me. 56 But all this hath been done, that the Scriptures of the prophets may be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

Mark 14:43-52

43 And immediately, while he was yet speaking, cometh Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, and with him a multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and elders. 44 And his betrayer had given them a signal, saying, Whomever I shall kiss, he is the man; seize him, and lead him away securely. 45 And on coming he immediately went up to him, and said, Rabbi! and kissed him. 46 And they laid hands on him and seized him. 47 And one of those who stood by drew his sword, and smote the servant of the highpriest, and cut off his ear.

48 And Jesus answering said to them, Ye have come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs, to take me. 49 I was daily with you in the temple, teaching, and ye did not lay hands on me; but [thus it is], that the Scriptures may be fulfilled. 50 And all forsook him and fled.

51 And there followed him a certain young man having a linen cloth wrapped round his naked body; and they laid hold of him. 52 And he left the linen cloth behind, and fled naked.

Luke 22:47-53

47 While he was yet speaking, lo! a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, was at the head of them; and he drew near to Jesus to kiss him. 48 But Jesus said to him, Judas, dost thou betray the Son of man with a kiss?

49 And they who were about him, seeing what would follow, said, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? 50 And one of them smote the servant of the highpriest, and cut off his right ear.

51 But Jesus answering said, Permit thus far; and touched his ear, and healed him. 52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests and captains of the temple and elders who had come to him, Ye have come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs; 53 when I was daily with you in the temple, ye did not put forth your hands against me; but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
