Matthew 23:37-39 - The Lament Over Jerusalem
37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem! murdering the prophets, and stoning those who are sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children around me, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you refused! 38 Now I leave you to yourselves. 39 For I tell you, you will never see me again until you say, 'Blessed be he who comes in the Lord's name!' "
31 Just then some Pharisees came up and said to him, "Go! Get away from here, for Herod wants to kill you!"
32 He said to them, "Go and say to that fox, 'Here I am, driving out demons and performing cures, today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will be through. 33 But I must go on today and tomorrow and the next day, for it is not right for a prophet to die outside Jerusalem.'
34 O Jerusalem! Jerusalem! murdering the prophets, and stoning those who are sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children around me, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you refused! 35 Now I leave you to yourselves. And I tell you, you will never see me again until you say, 'Blessed be he who comes in the Lord's name!' "
