Matthew 22:41-46 - David's Son And Lord
41 While the Pharisees were still gathered there, Jesus asked them, 42 "What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "David's."
43 He said to them, "How is it then that David under the Spirit's influence calls him lord, and says,
44 " 'The Lord has said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand, Until I put your enemies under your feet" '?
45 So if David calls him lord, how can he be his son?" 46 And no one could make him any answer, and from that day no one ventured to ask him any more questions.
35 As Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he answered them and said, "How can the scribes say that the Christ is a son of David? 36 David himself, under the influence of the holy Spirit, said, " 'The Lord has said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand Until I put your enemies under your feet." '
37 David himself calls him lord, and how can he be his son?" The mass of the people liked to hear him.
41 But he said to them, "How can the scribes say that the Christ is a son of David? 42 For David himself says in the Book of Psalms, " 'The Lord has said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand, 43 Until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet!" '
44 David then calls him lord. So how can he be his son?"
