Matthew 22:41-46 - David's Son And Lord

⁴¹ While the Pharisees were still gathered there, Jesus asked them, ⁴² "What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "David's."

⁴³ He said to them, "How is it then that David under the Spirit's influence calls him lord, and says,

⁴⁴ " 'The Lord has said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand, Until I put your enemies under your feet" '?

⁴⁵ So if David calls him lord, how can he be his son?" ⁴⁶ And no one could make him any answer, and from that day no one ventured to ask him any more questions.

³⁵ As Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he answered them and said, "How can the scribes say that the Christ is a son of David? ³⁶ David himself, under the influence of the holy Spirit, said, " 'The Lord has said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand Until I put your enemies under your feet." '

³⁷ David himself calls him lord, and how can he be his son?" The mass of the people liked to hear him.

⁴¹ But he said to them, "How can the scribes say that the Christ is a son of David? ⁴² For David himself says in the Book of Psalms, " 'The Lord has said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand, ⁴³ Until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet!" '

⁴⁴ David then calls him lord. So how can he be his son?"
