Matthew 21:33-46 - The Parable Of The Tenant Farmers In The Vineyard
33 Hear another parable. There was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug in it a winepress, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad. 34 And when the season of the fruits drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive his fruits. 35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. 36 Again he sent other servants more than the first; and they dealt with them in the same manner. 37 And afterward he sent to them his son, saying, They will respect my son.
38 But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and get his inheritance. 39 And they took him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. 40 When therefore the lord of the vineyard cometh, what will he do to those husbandmen?
41 They say to him, He will bring those wicked men to a miserable end, and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, who will render him the fruits in their season.
42 Jesus saith to them, Did ye never read in the Scriptures, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone; from the Lord did this come, and it is marvelous in our eyes?"
43 Therefore I say to you, that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and given to a nation yielding the fruits thereof. 44 (...)
45 And the chief priests and the Pharisees when they heard his parables, knew that he was speaking of them. 46 And they sought to seize him, but feared the multitudes, because they regarded him as a prophet.
1 And he began to speak to them in parables: A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug a winevat, and built a tower; and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad. 2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruits of the vineyard. 3 And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away emptyhanded. 4 And again he sent to them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and treated shamefully. 5 And he sent another; and him they killed; and many others, beating some, and killing some.
6 Still he had one beloved son; he sent him last to them, saying, They will respect my son.
7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours. 8 And they took him and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
9 What will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. 10 And have ye not read this scripture: "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone; 11 from the Lord did this come, and it is marvelous in our eyes"?
12 And they sought to seize him, but feared the multitude; for they knew that he spoke the parable against them. And they left him, and went away.
9 And he began to speak to the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad for a long time. 10 And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away emptyhanded. 11 And he sent still another servant; and they beat him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away emptyhanded. 12 And he went on to send a third; and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
13 And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.
14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours. 15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What then will the lord of the vineyard do to them? 16 He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard this, they said, God forbid!
17 But he, looking upon them, said, What then is this which is written, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone"?
18 Every one who falleth upon that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falleth, it will grind him to powder.
19 And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that hour, but they feared the people; for they knew that he spoke this parable against them.
