Matthew 26:36-46 - The Prayer In Gethsemane

Matthew 26:36-46

36 Then went Jesus with them to a place called Gethsemane, and saith to the disciples, Sit here, while I go there and pray: 37 and having taken with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to be sorrowful and much distressed; 38 and saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death, stay here and watch with me. 39 And going a little farther, He prostrated himself, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 And coming to the disciples, he findeth them asleep, and saith to Peter, what! could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

42 And going away again, the second time He prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass from me, unless I drink it, thy will be done. 43 And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.

44 And He left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, to the same effect. 45 Then He cometh to his disciples and saith, Are ye sleeping still and taking your rest? behold, the hour is come, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise, let us go, see the traitor is at hand.

Mark 14:32-42

32 And they came to a place called Gethsemane, and He saith to his disciples, Sit here whilst I go and pray. 33 And He taketh Peter and James and John with Him, and He began to be overwhelmed with terror and anguish. 34 And He saith unto them, My Soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death, stay here and watch. 35 And going a little farther, He prostrated Himself, and prayed, if it were possible, that this hour might pass from Him. 36 And He said, Abba, Father, all things are possible to Thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt.

37 And He cometh and findeth them asleep, and saith to Peter, Simon, art thou sleeping? couldst thou not watch one hour? 38 Watch, and pray, that ye enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the body is weak.

39 And He went away again, and prayed, after the same manner. 40 And when He returned, He found them again sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they knew not what to say to Him. 41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Are ye sleeping still and taking your rest? It is enough, the hour is come: behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Rise, let us go; see the traitor is at hand.

Luke 22:39-46

39 And He came out and went, as He used to do, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed Him. 40 And when He was at the place, He said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. 41 And when He was withdrawn from them about a stone's-cast, He kneeled down and prayed saying, 42 Father, if thou art willing take away this cup from me---nevertheless, not my will but thine be done.

43 And there appeared to Him an angel from heaven strengthening Him. 44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was like clotted blood falling down upon the ground. 45 And when He rose up from prayer, He came to his disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow; 46 and He said to them, Why do ye sleep? rise and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.
