Matthew 26:47-56 - The Betrayal And Arrest Of Jesus

⁴⁷ And while He was yet speaking, behold, Judas one of the twelve came, and with him a great number, with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people: ⁴⁸ (now he that betrayed Him, had given them a signal, saying, The man whom I shall kiss is He, lay hold of Him:) ⁴⁹ and going directly up to Jesus, he said, Hail master, and kissed Him.

⁵⁰ And Jesus said to him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? then they came up and laid hands on Jesus, and apprehended Him. ⁵¹ And one of them that were with Jesus, stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and striking at the high priest's servant took off his ear.

⁵² Then said Jesus to him, Put up thy sword into it's place; for they that take the sword shall perish by the sword: ⁵³ dost thou think that I cannot now apply to my Father, and He will send me more than twelve legions of angels? ⁵⁴ but how then should the scriptures be fulfilled, which say that thus it must be?

⁵⁵ Then said Jesus to the multitudes, Ye are come out as against a thief with swords and clubs to take me, whereas I sat with you day after day teaching in the temple, and ye did not seize me: but all this is done, ⁵⁶ that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.

⁴³ And immediately while He was yet speaking cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests, and scribes, and elders: ⁴⁴ (Now the traitor had given them a sign, saying, The man, whom I shall kiss, is He; lay hold of Him and lead Him away safely:) ⁴⁵ and as soon as he came, he went directly up to Him and said, Master, Master; and kissed Him. ⁴⁶ And they laid their hands on Him, and apprehended Him. ⁴⁷ And one of those that were present, drawing a sword, struck at the high priest's servant, and took off his ear.

⁴⁸ And Jesus said unto them, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and clubs to take me? ⁴⁹ I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye did not seize me: but this is done that the scriptures may be fulfilled. ⁵⁰ And the disciples all forsook Him and fled: but there followed Him a certain youth,

⁵¹ who had only a linen cloth wrapt about him, and the young men laid hold on him; ⁵² and he let go the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.

⁴⁷ And while He was yet speaking, behold a multitude; and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve apostles, came before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss Him: ⁴⁸ and Jesus said to him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

⁴⁹ But when they that were about Him saw what would follow, they said to Him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword? ⁵⁰ And one of them smote the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear:

⁵¹ but Jesus said, Suffer ye thus far; and He touched his ear and healed him. ⁵² Then said Jesus to the chief priests, and officers of the temple, and elders, that were come to Him, Are ye come out as against a robber with swords and clubs? ⁵³ When I was day after day with you in the temple, ye did not stretch out your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
